Chapter 1705

Cedric looked up at Emily with mild surprise, nodding approvingly as he saw her calm demeanor. “Well, I’ll leave this

case entirely in your hands then, and you’ll take care of the details with Mr. Beck.”

Emily nodded. “I’ll do my best.”

“There’s an important client coming this afternoon,’ the deputy director said. “It’s usually a meeting only for our

senior designers, but you should come along.”

Emily knew that Cedric was intent on mentoring her, so she grinned and said, “Thanks, Mr. Cedric: “Keep up the

good work,’ he told her.

“Yes, sir”

As Emily left the office, Edgar rushed over. “Didn’t I tell you? When you’ve got the Beck case, you’ve secured your

position in the firm.

Emily was also full of fighting spirit. “I hope to successfully complete it.”

“As long as the design passes, the rest is up to the engineering department,’ Edgar teased. “With such a big case,

the firm will surely make a fortune, and your cut won’t be small either. You’ll have to treat us then.”

“Sure, I’ll treat you to lunch. What do you want to eat?” Emily said cheerfully, her dimples showing as she laughed,

her beauty warm and elegant.

“Anything is fine. Invite Allen too,” Edgar suggested with a glint in his eye.

Emily looked puzzled. “Why should I invite him?”

Allen was a mid-level designer in the firm, but they weren’t close, nor were they friends.

“Playing dumb, are you?” Edgar winked at her. “Allen likes you. Can’t you see that?”

“What?” Emily’s eyes widened slightly.

“Really, didn’t you know? From the moment you joined the firm, Allen’s been extra attentive to you. Isn’t that a sign

that he likes you?” Edgar said playfully. ‘Allen’s not a bad catch, a local from J City. His parents are both tetired and

they own two houses from the city’s urban renewal program.”

“Stop!” Emily said, exasperated. “Stop joking around. He’s just being nice and I’m new here. How did that become

‘he likes me’ in your story? Can’t you gossip properly?”

“Am I gossiping?” Edgar feigned anger, poking Emily in the ribs. “I’m telling the truth!”

Emily was ticklish and tried to avoid him, laughing. “You’re the one who’s gossiping, making things up. Watch out,

Allen might come after you.”

Edgar grabbed her wrist and tickled her, but Emily managed to shake off his hand and quickly turned around to

avoid him. Just as she did, the office door next to her opened and she walked right into the man coming out. A

familiar scent of cedar filled her nostrils.

There were gasps all around. The man grabbed Emily’s arm, holding her steady rather than pushing her away.

Emily looked up into his handsome face, their eyes meeting in surprise. She quickly stepped back.

“What department are you from?” Ron, the director standing next to Charlie, scolded her coldly. “You are running

around and creating a ruckus in the hallway, even bumping into clients. Apologize immediately!”

Edgar quickly sidestepped, while Emily lowered her head, “I’m Emily from the design department. I didn’t mean to

bump into you, I’m sorry.”

Ron, sporting the latest trendy cut and decked out in a tailored blue suit, rebuked her coldly, “Why are you

apologizing to me? Do you know who Mr. James is?”
