Chapter 1706

“Emily, so this is where you work!”

Suddenly, Gavin, who was standing next to Charlie, began to speak, warmly greeting Emily. “You’re quite the

character, aren’t you? You’ve become a designer and didn’t even think to invite us, your old friends, to celebrate!”

Ron was taken aback. “Mr. Gavin, you know her?”

“Of course, I know her!” Gavin walked over to Emily, expressing his concern. “Did you get hurt? Mr. James is quite

the sturdy type. I hope he didn’t hurt you, with your soft skin and all.”

Emily shook her head, chuckling, “I’m fine. I’m not that delicate.”

Seeing Emily’s close relationship with Gavin, and knowing she also seemed to know Charlie, Ron immediately

changed his attitude. “If you’re not feeling well, don’t hold it back. I can give you some time off to rest.”

After saying this, he turned to reprimand Edgar. “Why are you chasing Emily during working hours? What if she gets

hurt, can you take responsibility?”

Edgar, knowing their director was an adept at playing the political game, didn’t dare to argue and simply bowed his

head in apology.

At this moment, Cedric emerged from his office, surprised. “Mr. James, didn’t you say you would come in the

afternoon?”

Charlie replied calmly, “I had some errands to run this morning and happened to pass by your office on my way

back, so I decided to come early.

“I’ll call everyone for a meeting right away!” Manuel respectfully said. Turning to Emily, he introduced her to Ron.

“Director Ron, this is Emily, our new intermediate designer. She’s the one who did the design for Mr. Beck. I thought

she should also attend the meeting.”

Ron immediately responded, “Of course, she should attend!”

Emily let out a sigh, not expecting that the important client Cedric mentioned was Charlie. Now there was no way to

avoid him. As she looked up, she caught Gavin’s teasing gaze.

With a touch of embarrassment on her face, she stepped back and followed the crowd.

Surrounded by everyone, Charlie made his way to the conference room without exchanging a single word with

Emily.

Once inside the conference room, Charlie, although a guest, took the main seat.

Director Ron personally served Charlie water and paperwork, his attentiveness was a stark contrast to his usual

demeanor.

Emily found an inconspicuous spot and took a seat.

As the meeting began, Emily learned that the James family was planning to build a shopping mall in the North

District. They wanted the firm to design the structure of the mall and the layout of the 70,000-square-meter plaza

in front of it.

Every designer wanted to land the James family as a client. To be involved in the plaza mall project of the James

family was definitely a chance to make a name for themselves.

As such, when each designer presented their own design proposal, they did so with all their might, hoping to gain

Charlie’s approval.

Emily listened to two designers’ proposals, knowing she was not involved and decided to treat it as a learning

experience.

So, in the entire conference room, Emily was the most relaxed one.

While the other designers were talking, she was taking notes, intentionally ignoring the pressure Charlie brought.

Charlie was listening quietly, occasionally glancing at the renderings on the screen behind him. There was no hint of

emotion on his face.

When the last designer finished, Cedric suddenly asked, “Emily, you’ve been listening for a while now. Do you have

any thoughts? Feel free to share.”

Caught off guard, Emily turned solemn. She stood up and said, “I have no thoughts.”

The other designers had various expressions, some even wanted to laugh, probably thinking Emily was too naive to

give up such a great opportunity given by the vice director.

Charlie glanced at her, his face expressionless as he shifted his gaze.

Ron laughed, “Emily wasn’t involved in the preliminary design of this project. It’s reasonable if she doesn’t have any

thoughts at the moment. Have a seat.”

Emily obediently sat down.

In the end, Charlie chose Chad.
