Chapter 294

Evander helped Olivine to the couch. He stared at her, asking, “What happened?”

Olivine held his arm and put on a puppy pout. With a sad, broken voice, she responded. “I did nothing, Evander.

Trust me. I couldn't help you guys since I couldn't cook, so I cut up some fruits for the boy. However, he tossed

them away and shoved me to the table.”

Angeline laughed mirthlessly. Boy. she's getting better at making up stories.

“As if,” she interjected adamantly. “Sebastian's a quiet boy to start with, and he's harmless. Also, he's a good kid. He

never threw any tantrums. Yet you say he tossed fruits around the room and shoved you, an adult, into a table?”

As if shocked, Olivine quickly huddled closer to Evander. Sarcastically, she said, “So you're saying I'm accusing a

child for no reason? Oh no, I have a reason. Yes, they aren't grown up enough to come up with plots or schemes,

but their parents? That I can't say for sure.”

“Oh, please. You're not even worth my time.” A wave of fury swam within Angeline's voice. She took a step forward

and demanded. “Even if you wish to accuse me, you'd need proof. Or else I reserve the right to sue you for

slander.”

Olivine was no match for an aggressive Angeline, so she turned to Evander and cried again. “You have to believe

me, Evander. I wouldn't have hurt myself, so someone else must have done it. And the child is... different to begin

with. Who knows what he would do?”

Incensed and furious, Angeline felt like biting Olivine's head off. but Evander remained calm. He listened to Olivine's

lies, but not once did he even spare her a look.

Angeline pursed her lips—pale as paper—and stayed silent for a moment. Then, beset by frustration and a desire to

know, she asked, “Do you believe her?” she said, almost in a whisper. It sounded like she didn't have confidence.

Evander frowned. He noticed the look in her eyes. The look of determination and sadness mingled together.

Subsequently, he felt something squeezing his heart.

Noticing Evander's look. Olivine panicked and touched her leg. Then she moaned. “Ow...”

That snapped Evander out of it, and he recomposed himself. “You should get that treated at the lounge,” he said.

Then Evander picked her up from the couch.

“Thank you, Evander.” Olivine leaned on him, her eyes twinkling with bliss. Then, she limped behind him.

They're leaving? Angeline was disappointed, especially at Evander. seeing how he chose to solve matters. She felt

like her whole world was spinning. He didn't even ask for our side of the stoiy.

She protested, “Are you going to take her away just like that, Mr. Golding?” Angry and disheartened, she grumbled,

“I would've let it slide if she had just come at me, but she went after my child. I'm sorry, but I cannot let that slide.”

“Angeline!” Evander shot her a look of disapproval. “Stop throwing a tantrum. Grow up.”

He thinks I'm throwing a tantrum? She was hurt by his remark once again. Angeline looked up at the ceiling and

held her sadness down by force. So that's what he thinks of me.

“I am not throwing a tantrum. All I'm asking for is an explanation.” Angeline stayed composed as best she could,

and she stared right into Evander's eyes. “I will not allow anyone to accuse my child of something he didn't do.”

The air itself seemed to freeze, and everything was plunged into a pit of awkwardness. Angeline wasn't someone

this petty, but this time, she would not back off. Part of it was for her son, and part of it was because she wanted to

know what Evander would really do. She wanted to know if he would pick her side over his fiancee's. Sadly, she had

an answer, but Angeline refused to face the truth. She was holding on to a sliver of hope that he still cared.

“Your son injured me. Angeline. I'm already letting it slide, so can't you do the same?” Olivine's eyes glistened, and

she put on another victim act. “He's already tiled from all the work he has to do. Can you stop bothering him with

your personal problems?”

The audacity. It was brazen of Olivine to speak so boldly of Angeline's actions and even bolder of her to even

accuse Angeline of being unreasonable when Angeline had the right to demand an explanation.

“Hey, Ms. Sherrock. Honesty is the best policy, didn't you hear? Stop the lies.” An angry Floretta came in and

berated Olivine, “You said you'd take care of Sebastian. He was fine with me, so why would he attack you?”

The girl tilted her head and blinked innocently. Then she feigned surprise. “Oh, and not even I could push that table,

and you claim Sebastian pushed it down on you? I didn't know he was Superman.”

Angeline was touched that the girl would speak up for her. and she teared up. It's like she knows what I'm thinking.

What a joke. I have to rely on a child to save me. Worried that Floretta might face further abuse after this, Angeline

pulled the girl into her embrace. “All right, that's enough. Floretta.”

“No it's not. She's lying. I'm not scared of her!”

Floretta spoke of the truth in a jovial, almost joking manner, but she pointed out the gist of the situation. Angeline

gave her a look of praise. She's smart. After all, she's her father's child, so she would inherit his intelligence.

“I...” Olivine frowned. Getting exposed by the girl made her panic, but she held it down and forced a smile.

“Sweetie, you don't know that woman's true colors. If she's really nice to you, she wnuld've come to you a long time

ago.”

“Shut up!” Floretta screamed like a banshee. Nobody talks like that about Angel.
