Elliot had left no space for Layla to argue.
Seeing how flushed Layla was, Robert immediately poured her a glass of water and handed it to her.
Layla took a sip of the water and turned to Avery. "Mom, what do you think?"
Elliot winked at his wife, hoping that she would side with him.
Avery was at a crossroads. If she chose to side with Layla, Elliot would be upset; but supporting Elliot would only hurt Layla. In the
end, she decided to remain neutral.
"I'm not going to participate in this discussion."

The other three were instantly rendered speechless.
"l only want us all to be healthy and happy," Avery continued. "I hope that you will consider what your dad said just now. If you
agree with what he said, you can take his advice. But if what he said wasn't enough to convince you, you can continue to negotiate
with him."
Layla lowered her head. Though she had rested, she had notpletely recovered from her exhaustion and still felt light-headed.
She did not know what to say.
"lI need a shower." She rubbed her nose and stood from the couch. As she headed up the stairs, Robert stood to follow her.
"Robert, your sister is going to take a shower. Why are you following her?" Elliot did not want Robert to give Layla any weird ideas.
"I... I will talk ssense into her," Robert said, to which Elliot responded with silent approval.
Robert followed Layla onto the second floor, and she glared at him.
"Can't you see that I'm upset?" she said as she took long strides toward her room. "You are just a kid. How are you going to talk
ssenses into me?"
"I just think that both you and Dad have a point. Layla, there might be a way to satisfy both of you," he whispered. "The issue here
is that you want to marry Eric, and Dad wants you to marry another guy. It's simple because Dad isn't asking you to get married
right now. You can date Eric in secret, and, if you two are happy together, you can move in together in secret! Once you get tired of
Eric, you can always marry another guy. Isn't that the perfect solution?"
Layla waspletely stunned, unable toprehend how her brother had turned into such an immoral man. "Am | that kind of

He scratched his head awkwardly. "I just want you to be happy! If you don't feel like dumping Uncle Eric, you can get pregnant with
his child, and Dad won't be against it anymore."
Layla covered her face with both her hands. "Robert Foster, have you been reading too many romance ? What would prompt
you to have such a horrible idea?"
"I'm just trying to help, Layla!" Robert said sincerely. "Go shower! Just don't be too upset. I've called in sick, and | have nothing else
to do, so you can alwayse and talk to me!"
Layla glanced at her younger brother, both amused and moved by how much he cared for her.
She knew that both her parents and her siblings cared for her, and she should have been content with that.
Layla dragged herself back to her room and closed the door behind her before dialling Eric's number.
