Chapter 317
“Mom, please, calm down,” Glynnis implored, her voice trembling as she cautiously approached the
seething Elspeth.
“Mom, seeing you this upset, it’s breaking my heart. Tell me what I can do to help,” Glynnis offered, her
voice strained with
concern
“Help? Can you kill Myra for me? Elspeth spat bitterly
Glynnis was left speechless.
1 thought when Myra ran off with Emeric, she would just be his little secret, a mistress without a title.
And then she had that girl, that little wench!”
Glynnis had to suppress a laugh at this. After all, hadn’t Elspeth herself given birth to two daughters?
“But no. Emeric is spoiling her! Throwing her a grand birthday party even getting Haron to design her a
dress! Why is she so lucky Why does she get to outshine me?”
Elspeth’s anger had turned her face a deep shade of purple, and she was on the verge of tears. Myra’s
success only illuminated Elspeth’s own failures.
“Mom, getting angry here won’t help. We need to find a way to take Myra down a notch, maybe even
ruin her birthday party” Glynnis suggested, shaking Elspeth’s arm in a desperate plea.
Elspeth gritted her teeth as she picked up her phone and dialed a number, leaving the room to take the
call by the window “Elspeth, it’s been a while since you’ve reached out. How have you been?”
A raspy male voice came over the line, presumably belonging to a middle–aged man.
“Let’s just say I’ve seen better days,” Elspeth choked out, fighting back tears.
“Is this about that woman, Myra?”
“Who else could it be?”
“Elspeth, you did me a favor once, and I’ll never forget it. Tell me what I can do to help.”
Elspeth let out a soft sob, but there was a sinister smile in her eyes.
Haron’s custom–designed evening gown was a crowning jewel in Myra’s birthday celebration. But the
party was far from over. The next event was the gift presentation.
Everyone was expecting Emeric to gift Myra with something extravagant, like a piece of property or
some precious jewelry. But what he actually gave her was a surprising curveball.
Emeric had set up a charity foundation in Myra’s name, dedicated to helping children with disabilities.
And as the cherry on top. Myra herself was appointed as the foundation’s chairwoman.
Evadne beamed with pride. She knew the women of the Ashbourne family weren’t like the other
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtsocialites and heiresses. They including Emeric, had never been interested in material wealth.
Compared to the world’s most precious diamond, this charity foundation was the best gift Emeric could
have given Myra, as she had secretly been volunteering and donating her own money to help needy
children.
She had done all of this without the family’s knowledge, believing Emeric was none the wiser. Little did
she know, Emeric had been aware all along and had been planning this surprise for her.
“I know how much you care about charity, Myrie. You’ve anonymously helped so many children in need
over the years I thought this would be the most meaningful gift for you,” Emeric said, his gaze soft and
loving as he held Myra’s hand.
“Emeric. How do you knew ? Myra was on the brink of tears.
“No tears, Myrie Not today”
Emeric flashed her a comforting smile as he gently wiped away a stray tear
“As a starting donation, I’m putting fifty million into the foundation I hope everyone here will join me in
supporting the Myra Foundation. On behalf of the K Group, I thank you all in advance,” Emeric
announced, his magnetic voice and commanding presence drawing everyone’s attention.
There was a moment of stunned silence before the room erupted into applause.
“Emeric didn’t give Myra some extravagant gift, but he did donate fifty million to her charity. That’s a big
deal!”

“Usually, the gifts at these high–society birthday parties are all the same. Emeric’s gift is not only
creative but also meaningful. This will not only make Myra look good but also improve the Ashbourne
family’s reputation. It’s a win–win!”
Offstage, Hamilton, Jeff, and Cassius sat at a table.
“Ahem. That old man, what kind of technology did he use behind my back? Why doesn’t he grow old?”
Jeff muttered jealously and turned to ask Cassius beside him, “Cassius, how did your dad maintain it?
Why did he grow backwards? Tell me about it.”
“Some makeup. Cassius smiled lightly and was very modest.
“Oh! I told you!”
Jeff suddenly approached him and blinked. “Where did your dad find a makeup artist? It’s quite natural.
Can you introduce it to me?”
Cassius was speechless.
Hamilton could not help but laugh as he listened.
The Ashbourne family was at a table. They all clapped wildly and were happy..
Amid the chatter and applause, Nydia couldn’t help but tear up. Seeing her mother so happy and loved,
she was overcome with emotion.
“Nydia, why are you crying?” Suri, who was sitting next to Nydia, asked, concern etched on her face.
“Mom, I’m just happy for Myra,” Nydia sniffled, wiping away her tears with a tissue.
A warm wave of affection washed over Suri as she gently stroked her daughter’s waterfall–like hair.
In their bustling, multifaceted family, all her children, including Evadne, referred to her as Suri. Only the
youngest, Nydia, would call her “Mom.”
It might not mean much in the grand scheme of things, but it warmed her heart nonetheless.
“You should be happy,” she reassured Nydia.
“But I’ve always thought that Dad doesn’t have room for you in his heart, Nydia confessed, her feelings
a jumbled mess. “And I’m the biggest disappointment among his children. Your daughter is slated to be
the future First Lady of Helgen, my elder sister is a rockstar in the design industry and even helps
manage his hotels. As for me, I can’t do anything. I’m just a burden.”
“Nydia, don’t think like that,” Suri said, her heart heavy as she wrapped her arms around her daughter.
“Your father has mentioned more than once that he just wants you, the youngest of the Ashbourne
family, to live carefree. To him, it doesn’t matter whether his children are successful or not. What’s
important is that they live happily and peacefully. Besides, your father loves you very much, and he
loves your mother too. Just because he doesn’t express it doesn’t mean he doesn’t feel it. We should
judge a person by their actions, don’t you think?”
Nydia nodded, tears glistening in her eyes, resting her head on Suri’s shoulder.
Then, the guests started presenting their gifts, each one more extravagant than the last.
“Next up, a gift from Mr. Avery of the Chambers Group!” the host announced.
All eyes turned to Avery, who was bathed in a spotlight.
Even Evadne turned her head, watching the calm and collected Avery with curiosity.
“Did he prepare a gift secretly?” Byron muttered, clenching his teeth. “He’s always trying to curry favor
with the Ashbourne family. always trying to steal the limelight!”
“What’s the point?” Matthew scoffed, swirling his red wine. “Avery’s always been clever, but he doesn’t
understand that what goes around comes around. He might be able to win Evadne’s heart, but he
doesn’t realize that he’s already upset Dad. The Chambers Group is still run by Dad.”
Just as they predicted, Jeff was not looking pleased.
He clenched his jaw, glancing at Avery.
Suddenly, upon seeing Mrs. Chambers, his eyes widened, and his lips twitched.

Myra hesitated, looking at Emeric.
“It’s a small token of my respect. Let’s see what it is,” Emeric suggested, wrapping his arm around
Myra’s waist as they unveiled

Emeric took Myra’s tiny waist and lifted the red cloth with her.
In an instant, Emeric’s expression changed suddenly, and he suddenly lifted his eyes and glanced at
Avery’s direction without showing any emotion.
When all the guests saw this birthday gift, they all exclaimed in amazement and praise. It was no less
shocking than when they saw the dress designed by Haron!
Evadne’s beautiful eyebrows suddenly folded, and her heart was secretly shocked.
Underneath the red cloth was a porcelain vase. It was such a valuable antique that it could be a prized
display in a museum, at an auction, it would be worth at least three million dollars!
and
Avery presenting such a grand gift to Myra, especially one that was worth more than what Mr. Jeff had
given, was clearly a way to make his own father look bad.
As she thought about it, Evadne shook her head. And then, she noticed that Thaddeus was missing!
Her heart skipped a beat as she looked around for him.
“Myra,” Avery began, bowing politely before he continued with a humble smile, this is my birthday gift to
you–a porcelain vase. I wish you and Chairman Emeric a long, happy, and healthy life together.”
Myra was taken aback. “Mr. Avery, this gift is too extravagant.”
“It indeed is,” Emeric joked. “If I didn’t know better, I’d think it was a birthday gift for me, haha.”
Avery adjusted his glasses, a flicker of something hidden in his eyes
“An ancient porcelain vase!”
That’s a million–dollar antique!”
“Mr. Avery has never shown his face in the Chambers family’s public events, and now, on his first
appearance, he’s making such a grand gesture. Quite remarkable!*
“But isn’t it inappropriate that his gift is more expensive than Mr. Jeff’s?”
Indeed, it was inappropriate. Jeff was turning green with envy.
But what they didn’t know was that this seemingly ill–timed gesture was a calculated move by Avery.
And this was just the beginning.
The uncomfortable days for the Chambers family were just beginning.
“Next up, a gift from Mr. Thaddeus, the president of the Abernathy Group!” the host announced.
