Chapter 426
Aaron slapped his forehead dramatically, his eyes sparkling with excitement. “Evadne, you once helped
us crack two murder cases. In one, you found the crucial clue among the evidence, leading to a
breakthrough in the case. In the other, you spotted a flaw in the suspect’s alibi that resulted in a
confession!”
Thaddeus was dumbfounded, looking at the calm and composed woman beside him with wide eyes.
This was it. He was done for.
How could Evadne be so exceptional? No matter how hard he tried, he just couldn’t catch up.
Before, Thaddeus saw himself as decent, if not extraordinary.
Now, in front of Evadne, he felt as insignificant as a used roll of toilet paper in a public restroom.
“Hut, I’m surprised you remember my shining moments, Aaron.”
Evadne teased him with twinkling eyes. “If it wasn’t for Emeric and Suri standing in my way, I might
have joined the police academy and become a gun–toting cop. You might be calling me sergeant by
now.”
“That’s because you’re our precious gem. We were afraid you’d get hurt playing with guns and knives.
But in the end, we you from going.”
Evadne’s eyes went wide and Aaron quickly shut his mouth, almost letting the cat out of the bag.
Afterwards, Aaron boldly led them to meet the Chief.

The Chief naturally remembered the sharp–witted young woman who had helped the police
observations
What surprised him more was that Mr. Thaddeus was with her!
The Abernathy Group, Thaddeus these names carried significant weight in Elmsworth!
“Mr. Thaddeus! I didn’t expect you to come in person. I apologize for not greeting you earlier.”
Seeing Evadne was a pleasure for the Chief, but seeing Thaddeus was a delight. In addition to the
usual pleasantries, he even ordered Aaron, the head of the detective squad, to pour tea for Thaddeus!
Aaron was taken aback. Thaddeus quickly stood up, Till do it myself!”
Pouring tea in front of Evadne, letting his future brother in–law serve him? Was he out of his mind?
He still wanted to marry the Ashbourne family’s daughter!
Aaron narrowed his eyes, acknowledging Thaddeus’s understanding of social etiquette.
“Oh, no, no, how can I let you do that? I do it!”
The Chief personally served the tea, a move that Aaron found distasteful.
If this guy knew that the ‘Aaron‘ he had been calling for years was the son of Skyrim’s richest man,
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtwould he offer him his office to sit in? Thaddeus didn’t rush to drink the tea. He touched the cup to test
the temperature, then elegantly lifted it and blew on it for a while before handing it to Evadne.
“Its not hot anymore. You can drink it now.”
Aaron and the Chief were dumbfounded.
“Thank you. You should have some too.” Evadne took a sip and handed it back to him.
Thaddeus took the cup from her and sipped from the same spot where she had drunk.
Their sweet atmosphere had already made the others jealous.
‘Chiel, we came here for one reason to see Ward and talk to him.”
Before the Ashbourne siblings could speak, Thaddeus’s starry eyes turned serious, stating their
intention directly.
“Aaron, Mr. Thaddeus wants to see him Arrange it immediately Ordered the Chief
The three of them were stunned.
That was it?
“Yes, sir” Aaron was also surprised at how smoothly things were going
‘But Ward is extremely dangerous. It’s not very safe for you to talk to him in person. Let Aaron
accompany your”
“No need.” Thaddeus declined calmly.
“It’s okay. Mr. Thaddeus’s skills are even better than those of Ward and Captain Ashbourne.”
Evadne tilted her head towards Thaddeus, her laugh as sweet as pearls. “When he gets stubborn, you
better have more men ready to watch Ward. I’m afraid he might die in jail”
In jaill,
Aaron and two other officers waited outside while Evadne and Thaddeus went in to confront Ward
After waiting for a while, Ward, dressed in a prison uniform and shackled, was brought in by an officer.
“Well, well, look who it is.”
Ward sneered at them, casually sitting on the steel chair and looking at Evadne with a lewd smile,
“What’s up, Ms. Ashbourne? Do you miss me?”
Evadne looked cold and stern, but managed to keep her composure.
But Thaddeus’s anger was already at its peak. His jaw was set tightly, his eyes flashing with
uncontrollable rage. The beast within him
was about to break free!
Seeing Thaddeus’s anger, Ward couldn’t be more pleased. He laughed wildly behind the iron bars!
Just then, Evadne firmly grasped his trembling hand under the table,
The warm and strong sensation slowly permeated his entire body, bringing an inexplicable sense of
calm. His turbulent emotions gradually subsided.
“Get on with whatever you want to say. I need to get back to sleep. Ward didn’t care, clearly prepared
to fight them to the end.
“Ward, we came here today to discuss a collaboration with you.” Evadne slowly began, choosing a
more palatable approach.
“A collaboration? Ha, Ms. Ashboume, do you think I’m a three–year–old kid? I nearly killed both of you,
and you want to collaborate with me? That’s hilarious!
“Yes, you tried to kill us, but you didn’t succeed, did you?” Evadne’s smile was barely there,
Ward frowned.
He was a former mercenary, a professional killer. Evadne’s words were clearly insulting his profession.
“You’re well aware of our laws, right? Even foreign criminals, no matter how heinous their crimes, can
only serve up to twenty years. But do you really want to languish here for twenty years? Twenty years
later, you’ll be shipped back to Country T, hitting sixty. Do you think your support system will still be
there? At sixty, you’ll continue your sentence in a Country T prison. You know better than anyone what
kind of conditions you’ll be facing there. Do you believe you’ll survive?”
Evadne’s words hit Ward right where it hurt, without wasting a single syllable.
A born negotiator.
Thaddeus held Evadne’s hand, glancing at her without a hint of emotion, yet his eyes were filled with
admiration and tendemess.
The smile on Ward’s face noticeably froze,
Capitalizing on the moment, Evadne narrowed her beautiful eyes, “We know that all of this was
orchestrated by Elspeth, Without her things wouldn’t have spiraled out of control. Our primary enemy
isn’t you, it’s Elspeth.
Now that you’re behind bars and facing serious charges, Elspeth remains untouched, comfortably
playing the role of the lady of the Abernathy Group, as if the miseries you’re enduring today have
nothing to do with her. Can you really swallow such indignity?”
Ward let out a cold laugh but didn’t respond.
“So why don’t we cooperate? You can turn state’s evidence, Implicating Elspeth in the murder of Erica.
Well help you in return, allowing you to return to Country T within a year. Last time you saw the intimate
relationship between my sister and the royal family. If I ask my sister to intervene, speak to the king and
queen, I suspect you won’t serve a full two years before being released unharmed.”
Evadne smiled, her words like sweet–coated bombs, “What do you say, Mr. Ward, consider it?”
Thaddeus‘ eyes shone with awe.
In terms of composure, strategy, and intellect, Evadne was no less than any of the seasoned
businessmen they knew, and even surpassed many influential figures.
Thank goodness she was kind, and they were in love.
Otherwise, he had no idea how many times he would stumble upon her, probably bruised and bleeding.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmWard let out a few laughs, sarcastically remarking. “If someone else were making this offer I might have
been tempted. But coming from you, Ms. Ashbourne, there isn’t a shred of credibility.
My current predicament, isn’t it all thanks to you? Now, to topple Elspeth, you need my testimony, using
me as a fool. Do you think! can’t see through your tricks?”
With that, he suddenly stood up, the chair scraping the floor, producing a harsh noise.
“Don’t waste your energy on me. Use this time to figure out how to combat Elspeth.”
When Evadne and Thaddeus exited, their expressions weren’t the best
Aaron didn’t probe further. Seeing that the negotiation failed, he reassured them that he would continue
to push for Ward’s trial. Back in the car, Thaddeus, sensing Evodne’s low spirits, pulled her into his
arms. His chiseled jaw lightly resting on her head, he begant to comfort her
“Evadne, don’t be disheartened. Even without Ward’s testimony, we have Erica’s recording. Although
it’s not direct evidence, and it’s been twenty years, once this recording is exposed, it will deal a huge
blow to Elspeth. Shell be completely discredited, and Frederic won’t be able to protect her anymore.”
“Thaddeus, is that all you want?” Evadne suddenly asked, her voice cold.
Thaddeus breath hitched, his heart aching as if it was about to shatter
He wanted more than that.
He wanted Elspeth dead. He wanted her dead!
“Twenty years have passed, even with Erica’s life–exchanging recording, what can we really do?”
Evadne’s hand pressed against Thaddeus‘ heavy heartbeat, each pulsation echoing the deep–seated
resentment that only she could understand, “Twenty years have passed, the statute of limitations is
over, all evidence is gone. Without direct evidence, you know we can’t impose a severe sentence on
Elspeth Just discrediting her, just making Frederic abandon her, how is that enough? How is that
enough!”
“Evadne.” Thaddeus voice was choked, filled with intense restraint.
“Our only chance, the only way to make Elspeth wish she were dead, is by using Erica’s death, utilizing
Ward’s testimony, to establish Elspeth’s charge of hiring a hitman!”
Evadne’s eyes brimmed with unshed tears, a storm brewing within them, “Without Erica, the truth
behind your mother’s death would have remained buried, unheard. This is the opportunity Erica
exchanged her life for, we must seize it, by any means necessary, we have to get Ward to spill the
truth!”
“Do you think Ward will talk? He seemed pretty defiant earlier. Thaddeus asked, his voice low.
“He will! Trust me, I saw a flicker of hesitation in him. Otherwise, why would he even sit there and listen
to us for so long? He might not even have agreed to meet us.” Evadne was adamant.
Thaddeus nodded slightly in agreement.
“But right now, he doesn’t trust me, and he’s still living a decent life. He doesn’t see the need to risk it
all and cooperate with me.”
“A decent life?”
A dangerous glint flickered in Thaddeus‘ eyes, “Soon, he’ll realize that cooperating with us is his only
chance of survival. Even if it’s only temporary.”
