"Lan Clan Head, are you sure you have the strength to protect it?" An old man seated on the body of a gigantic ape grinned hoarsely, staring at the Forbidden Tale held by a youth, one whose feathers seemed haggard.

"Pretty sure I do." The Lan Clan Head said while panting a little, "You've been after me for a month now. Despite that, it's still in my possession."

"Are you sure?" Another voice resounded in the area as a middle-aged woman arrived, riding the back of a crane.

"There's a reason my eagle is superior." The Lan Clan Head said, flapping the wings on his back to take flight immediately.

"You won't leave!" The middle-aged woman shouted, unleashing a beam of light at the eagle.

"Waah!" The Lan Clan Head broke into tears instantly, bawling like a baby. But despite that, he continued to flee, startling the middle-aged lady.

"He's able to maintain his composure despite being affected by my power?" The middle-aged lady was shocked.

"Emotional attacks aren't effective against him. I've been trying it for a month now." The old man on the ape's shoulder said, sighing in response, "Why did you waste such a precious attack without asking me first?"

"I uh…" The middle-aged woman could only blush in embarrassment. Ascenders were capable of using emotional attacks, but they were precious. And, it took them ages to charge up a single emotional attack.

After all, the only way to charge up an emotional attack was by experiencing this emotion in a dream and siphoning it away. And as dreams went, it was hard to chance upon dreams that invoked a singular type of emotion as they wished.

Therefore, emotional attacks were trump cards of Ascenders, something they had been charging up for years. And of course, at the end of the day, it would only invoke a certain type of emotion in the target.

The current emotional attack caused the target to cry nonstop for at least a few hours. And that was why, the moment he was targeted by it, the Lan Clan Head fled away.

Flying while crying wasn't hard for him, especially since he held superiority over flight. So, until the effects of the attack subsided, he planned to remain on the run.

"Last time I hit him with an emotional attack, this bastard remained in the air until the effects wore off. He's shameless." The old man atop the ape said. Of course, his ape couldn't fly and hence, he truly wasn't able to engage in a proper battle with the Lan Clan Head.

Of course, he could attack the Lan Clan to force his hand. But, that would also mean the Lan Clan Head could make a beeline for his Clan instead to wreak havoc. Anyone that attacks the Lan Clan would simultaneously be met with his retaliation.

This was why none dared to target the Lan Clan. After all, they were aware of his character, one that focused on personal survival the most.

He would rather abandon the Lan Clan than risk his life. He could casually rebuild another Lan Clan, considering the methods at his disposal. Hence, the group of Ascenders targeting him for the Forbidden Tale had yet to see any success.

Meanwhile, Duketace and Kowla had made their way to The Divide, passing through the narrow strait before entering the plateau region, one where dragons and tigers resided.

The plateau was abundant in flora and fauna, and blessed with an abundance of natural resources. Moreover, it spanned an area more than a hundred times the plains, leading to the creation of some of the largest Clans.

Here, Invokers were the bread and butter of every organisation, with the true higher-ups and Elders being Ascenders. And, the one leading the strongest of each organisation represented the peak power of this world, a Conjurer.

Each Conjurer was said to have been alive for at least a thousand years, and hence, they truly established deep-rooted organisations.

Creating waves here was easier said than done. And hence, Duketace and Kowla were nervous about setting foot here.

Gulp!

"I was feeling strong just a day ago but I feel damn weak all of a sudden," Duketace said, for his strength as a Superior Invoker truly meant nothing in the plateau region.

At least in the plains, unless something important like the Forbidden Tale appeared, the Ascenders would never involve themselves in anything. Therefore, those active in the region were only Invokers.

So, being a Superior Invoker meant you were part of the elite that ran the world.

But in the plateau, a Superior Invoker only meant that you were the strongest among the grunt force. In a society where Ascenders moved like they were normal, Invokers weren't placed much value.

"I'm…kinda scared, dad." Kowla said, nervous as she stared at the four Forbidden Tales in her father's possession, "We can't even store them in our Dreamland. So, I am not feeling well just going around with them."

"Thankfully, the people here aren't aware of their value yet." Duketace calmed down, "Thanks to that, we can do something."

"But dad, how will we sell it?" Kowla asked, "There's too much risk involved."

"It's pretty simple." Duketace smiled and lead the way, "We actually don't need to do anything. There are auctions to be taken advantage of."

"Auctions? Are you being serious?" Kowla was shocked, "We'll probably be killed first and then be snatched of the four Forbidden Tales by the auction house. That's pretty basic for them. Besides, our task was to spread them in four different places and not sell them at one location."

"There's a way," Duketace said as his eyes shone with starlight for a moment, causing a surge of strength in him, making him confident. "We only need to sell in one place. Don't worry, they'll end up in different regions naturally."

"Just follow my lead." Saying so, he brought out his metallic eagle and began to travel in the direction of the largest city in the plateau region, taking more than a week to travel.

If Kowla hadn't become a Superior Invoker during that time, they would have taken even longer. Finally, they arrived at the largest city in the plateau region, a metropolis said to be akin to a country, boasting a sheer population of fifty million people.
