Chapter 430 - Arrival of the Gods
The scientists in ‘Noah’s Ark’ began to panic frantically within the shared quarters on board.
They clearly made out the brilliant glare that accompanied all nuclear explosions, but rather than shattering into fragments, the evil satellite maintained its original form.
The individuals present were all educated people. They knew that detonating a nuclear bomb in space would not look the same as detonating it on Earth due to the lack of an atmosphere. As for the nuclear radiation, it was negligible at their distance.
But this nuclear bomb was buried at the core of the moon and should have been powerful enough to rip it apart dozens of times over. After all, the geological integrity of the small moon should have been no match for the land on Earth.
Who could have known that this would happen even with the most terrifying bomb ever created? The bomb had detonated, created a brief but blinding explosion of light, and then made no other significant changes. A single long crack seemed to run along the surface where the bomb had been placed.
The misshapen moon began to spin horizontally relative to them, but slowly. Then it began to shake. Finally, the fault line created on its surface widened to become a huge cave. The cracked smile that ran over the moon had become a gaping maw, and from that maw came a bizarre sound. Despite the vacuum of space separating the astronauts from the solar projectile, they could clearly make out a distorted screech. It grated on their ears like nails on a chalkboard and stabbed into their very consciousness, threatening them with eternal torment.
And it sounded like laughter.
Despite this, the space vessel maintained its course, and soon the crew was out of range of the screeching. Looking around, they all noticed that their compatriots were bleeding from their facial orifices. Each crewmate felt their limbs lose strength at both the exhaustion of the ordeal and the despair they felt for mankind’s fate.
Everyone sat on the floor and cried silently. They could not be blamed for this failure. They had accomplished their mission perfectly with sacrifices along the way, but mankind had failed due to a lack of understanding regarding the supernatural as well as overconfidence in the power of nuclear weapons.
This moon of Jupiter had been directly granted life by Louie through his divine authority of life. When the members of the ‘Avengers’ had boarded it, he had infused the satellite with divine power, turning it into a being that was infinitely close to a divine creature.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtOn the other hand, nuclear weapons were weapons of mass destruction that relied on energy and radiation. Still, the pure energy it released was nothing in front of creatures with divine power. Only divine power could match its like.
Moreover, anyone with the know-how understood that nuclear weapons were extremely inefficient. They simply could not perform a perfect conversion of mass to energy.
Louie had been afraid of nuclear power once, but now, nuclear weapons were like firecrackers. There was simply no threat from the burning temperature nor the energy impact.
……
The immediate spectators of the astronauts’ endeavors watched the failure on the frontlines. . At that moment, the entire conference room was silent, and only the ragged breathing of the people was transmitted through the headset.
After a long time, the President of the United States spoke mournfully, “Gentlemen, it has been a pleasure to work with you. As it stands, this might have been our last chance at solving the situation.”
“However, we do have a final hope. Our plan has failed and according to our calculations, Jupiter's moon will make an impact on the North American continent in four days. We must now execute the ‘Human Seed Retention Plan’.”
“The asteroid is already close enough to Earth that normal citizens can see it through a telescope. It is already impossible for us to hide it from the people, but I hope that everyone would keep a tight lid on it, so that the people would think that our plan starts tomorrow, thus allowing everyone to live one more day of normal life! Finally, good luck to everyone!”
After those words, the President of the United States of America cut off communication. Now, he had to race to the launch base that was going to fire a spaceship to the moon, to the small base created by the joint efforts of many major countries.
With the current level of technology, landing on the moon was not a hundred percent success, but in order to survive, they could only gamble and fight.
“Good luck to everyone!”
“Good luck to everyone!”
“......”
The leaders of the countries reluctantly said their last words to each other and left, but their hearts were heavy. They did not feel celebratory at the fact that they might be the last human survivors.
If Adrastea was just an ordinary satellite, they still thought that they would be able to survive if they escaped to the moon, but after finding out that it was a living creature with its own consciousness, they felt gloomy and doubted if even that would be a way out.
……
In Shanghai, Dragon Group office, the team leader and his right-hand subordinate Gui Bin were smoking cigarettes.
“Cough cough cough…”
Gui Bin vigorously inhaled a mouthful of smoke and choked, causing it to spew out his nose. He complained, “This thing is so hard to smoke, how do you guys even like this stuff? Also, I hate second-hand smoking the most.”
Haha, little Gui is still young. You don’t understand the beauty of smoking.”
Team leader Si smoothed out his last few strands of hair that were even permed into curly hair and advised, “If you can not smoke, do not smoke.”
“No way, we will all die in a few days. If I don’t enjoy life's pleasures, there will be no more opportunities in the future… leader, I remember that you have a bottle of Moutai that you had been saving for a long time. Let’s drink it tonight and get drunk.”
As a member of the ‘Dragon Group’, the team leader and Gui Bin were the ones who knew in advance that the plan had failed. At their level, it was impossible for them to be part of the ‘Human Seed Retention Plan’. The base established on the moon was also too small for everyone to fit in.
With team leader Si and Gui Bin being salarymen, they could not use their own financial resources to fly into space for survival. Moreover, after knowing the true nature of Adrastea, they did not feel that space was truly safe.

Team leader Si laughed and cursed, His voice slowed down, “Humanity is going to disappear, so why would I still keep it. Tonight, I’ll accompany you for a drink… Previously we were just civil servants, so I knew a few intermediaries. Now that money is useless, let us leave the job. I’ll find you a few pretty girls for the night so that you can graduate from your virginity before dying.”
Gui Bin’s face reddened as the forty-year-old uncle laughed.
“Knock knock knock—”
Just then, there was a sharp knock on the office door.
“Come in!”
The team leader hastily collected himself and said with a deep voice. Gui Bin was completely dumbfounded by this.
A staff member pushed open the door, his face became excited as he stammered, “Leader, someone outside wants to see you!”
“To see me? Who wants to see me?”
Team leader Si was a bit puzzled. After all, their office was a part of state secret, so ordinary people would not know this place’s address, while those who knew would definitely notify him in advance.
“It’s… it’s the old immortal!”
The staff could hardly suppress his emotion and shouted with excitement.
“Is it that old immortal with the surname Zhang?!”
The team leader stood up from his chair at once and said with unbearable excitement, “Quick, quickly invite the old immortal in. Call all the people above us, and we will go over together to greet him!”
After saying so, he looked at Gui Bin and meaningfully said, “Little Gui, it seems that I have to keep that bottle of Moutai for a few more years. Also, you can continue being a virgin!”
