Meanwhile…
A very important meeting was being held in a circular room that had steel walls surrounding it. The walls were tightly closed to keep the information from being leaked out. They prioritized security more than anything.
“Excellent strategy, Dr. Johnson. You’re really a genius.” A man dressed in a suit with a long gold tie gave a round of applause, which was greeted by other people in the room.
There were over fifteen people sitting on a luxurious and comfortable sofa. And as a tribute to their achievement, they gave applauses.
Clap! Clap! Clap!
Meanwhile, a bespectacled man whose hair had partially turned white slightly bowed his head to the fifteen people in front of him. The man was standing on a small stage behind a wide screen with large words displayed on it.
[Last Shelter Online: Your Dream Life!]
Dr. Jeff Johnson raised his head again, giving his best smile to the people who had become the most important investors for the project he was working on.
With the news that had recently circulated, Dr. Johnson planned to speed up the release date of a new patch for Last Shelter Online.
A new patch that he believed could have a huge impact on people’s lives around the world. A project that would require sacrifices and funds that he could not possibly do alone.
A man in golden silk pajamas who was sitting in the back row raised his right hand.
“Yes, Mr. Bernalt?”
“When will I be able to meet the dead player? I’ll give him a special job. You know that money isn’t an issue for me, right, Dr. Johnson?” His voice sounded like someone who had been suffering from a deadly disease for a long time.
Dr. Johnson formed a warm smile. He lifted his face slightly and spoke in a reassuring tone.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Soon, Mr. Bernalt. His psyche is still not primed enough to come back to life from the dead.”
The answer from Dr. Johnson made the guests in the room burst out laughing.
“Ha ha ha.”
They thought that someone’s death was a funny joke.
Dr. Johnson seemed to enjoy the reaction he got, although his hands were already breaking out in a cold sweat from the tension.
“You know I will wait for that day to come, Dr. Johnson?!”
“Yes, sir. You will be the first to see him.”
The important meeting was finally over, and Dr. Johnson asked all his guests to leave the special room. He continued to smile until the room was completely empty.
A well-dressed man who had been standing near the door finally walked closer to Dr. Johnson while displaying a screen through his android bracelet.
“What’s my next agenda, Morgan?”
“It’s all done for today, Sir. But, you asked me to remind you that today you’ll see your daughter.”
“Thank you, Morgan. So it’s my free time now. I am heading to the mothership.”
The smile on the face of the genius scientist and the founder of today’s biggest game company had disappeared completely.
Dr. Johnson took off the button of his collar that suffocated him, then he rushed out of the building where the meeting was held to go to another building that was still part of his estate.
It was an evening, and Dr. Johnson did not say anything during the way, which only took 15 minutes. He arrived at a place known as mothership.
A luxurious building, a skyscraper that had the Ninecent logo on it.
He walked speedily towards the room, while Morgan walked behind him, trying to keep up with the boss’ pace.
After holding an important meeting with the company’s major investors, Dr. Johnson was feeling very depressed.
Although his latest proposal received a very positive response from all of them, there was still one thing they wanted, but he wasn’t sure he could grant it.
WynterRain.
Mothership was a special room in the Ninecent building, which became a headquarters for monitoring the player. It was also the server center of the game that managed to become the focus of attention of the world, Last Shelter Online.
The room was very large and spacious, like a mini stadium. It took up a full floor in the building. Inside the room, there were dozens of workers who looked very busy watching each of the three large transparent screens in front of them. They were divided into several departments that worked based on their departments.
Dr. Jeff Johnson came into the room, and none of those workers turned their gaze at him.
It had always been like that. The running of the security in the game was more important than the arrival of the head of the company.
“Bring Gary to me.”
“Yes, sir.”
Gary Mitnick, a young genius who was working under the Ninecent company as Captain Mothership. At the age of 28, he had solved all kinds of problems related to computer systems and technology that even American Cyber Security Management couldn’t handle.
After leaving for a few minutes, Secretary Morgan came back to Dr. Johnson with a brunette haired man who was wearing a casual t-shirt.
“Good evening, Dr. Johnson. Pardon my appearance outside of working hours.” The young man gave a greeting in a polite tone. His appearance didn’t bother Dr. Johnson.
“Mr. Mitnick, sorry for interrupting your rest time. I came for something very important.”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmDr. Johnson kept the volume down, even though no one wanted to overhear his conversation with the young man.
“I need you to get that player’s avatar back. This is very important.”
Gary frowned at the whisper of his boss. He didn’t seem to understand.
“Which one, sir?”
“WynterRain.”
Last Shelter Online company owned all player IDs and had the right to confiscate if any player violated the rules in the game and created an imbalance of power in it.
WynterRain was also an avatar that was under the auspices of the Ninecent company, and that meant the mothership had direct access to that avatar, getting WynterRain’s avatar wasn’t hard to do either.
Gary brought his face closer to Dr. Johnson to whisper back.
“I have tried, but I failed. I can’t even detect the IP address of the player who had stolen the avatar. It was as if the avatar was being controlled by a ghost. Isn’t that weird?”
Gary’s answer made Dr. Johnson frowned.
“There is no such thing like ghost, Mr. Mitnick.”
“I know, but even the VR world was once a theory.”
The two stared at each other tensely. Dr. Jeff Johnson regretted lying to the public about WynterRain working for him.
What actually happened, he himself did not know the answer.
He had absolutely no idea how the WynterRain account could operate in the game even though the owner had actually died.
Even so, Dr. Johnson was a genius that always had a back-up plan.
“I guess this is the time, introducing my lovely daughter into the world.”
