Zhao Lifei turned around and was surprised to see the anger in his eyes. It burned like a flame, one that she didn't shy away from. He looked as if he wanted to interrogate her there and then on how and why she owned a gun. But who was he to care whether she had one or not? She knew he owned the XIX pistol, which was quite unheard of within the country.
She was the first to break their staring competition and when she did, she noticed something odd. He was sitting on her bed, his suit jacket and tie gone while his crinkled shirt was half open, revealing part of his muscular chest. His legs were still tucked into the same blanket she had previously been wrapped with.
"What are you doing in my bed?" She frowned, subconsciously glancing down to make sure her undergarments were still intact. She was terrified that something might have happened while she was inebriated.
"I'm tidying up the blankets." He lied, grabbing the ends and performing a horrible attempt at folding it.
Zhao Lifei narrowed her eyes, accusing him. "Why would you need to be sitting on the bed to fold the blanket?" She crossed her arms while she glared at him. She faintly remembered their phone call, her being drunk out of her mind, and him showing up to her doorstep. Whatever happened after the door opened, she couldn't remember...
"Everyone has their own method of tidying the blanket. Don't judge mine." Yang Feng shamelessly said, despite the fact that he obviously has never folded anything before.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"If you're going to lie, at least pick a better one." She scowled, debating the idea of calling security. But a big part of her didn't want him to leave.
Zhao Lifei had noticed that during their frequent encounters, her heart would instantly calm and a feeling of security would wash over her the moment she senses his presence. Even Zheng Tianyi was not able to evoke the feeling of having someone to rely on when the world becomes too hard to handle.
The way her heart stirs whenever their eyes meet had started to terrify her. She had a gut feeling that if she lets herself give in, she would fall for him at an alarming rate. Lifei was scared of falling in love again, she knew that she wasn't emotionally stable yet and another heartbreak might completely ruin her.
Despite that, she couldn't bring it in herself to push him away. She pressed her lips together, eyes flashing with uncertainty.
"It's the truth, you just overthink too much." He refused to back down and placed the sloppily folded blanket onto the corner of her bed.
Zhao Lifei let out a heavy sigh. It didn't seem this shameless man would relent to his horrible excuses, so she decided to ignore it. Besides, it's not like this is the first time they have slept in the same room.
Her privacy was obviously breached, but she knew he was a trustworthy man. He hadn't done anything to her every single time she was unconscious and she didn't think he would start anytime soon.
She just found it confusing that he would stay in the same bed as her until she realized that she also found herself in his bed the night before. She had always kept the guest bedroom locked so he wouldn't be able to sleep there, but why didn't he just leave after tucking her in? However, it doesn't matter now since she had obviously slept well.
"Why would you fold the blanket?" She mused, walking towards the now oddly shaped blanket.
Yang Feng blinked, awkwardly scratching the back of his head. "Why not?" He asked her, though it was a bit embarrassing to see such a capable man not even able to do something as simple as folding blankets.
"Because I will need to use it later tonight." She rolled her eyes, opening it and laying it flat onto the bed. She fixed the edges so that her bed was more presentable.
Turning towards Ruqin, she noticed how oddly quiet the girl had become. It was nearly impossible for her not to start rambling because she was typically energetic and filled with things to say and talk about.
"What is it?" Lifei asked while she arranged the pillows.
Yang Ruqin was at a loss for words with how her brother was acting. He was never this...well-behaved. No, that wasn't the word for it. He was always the domineering type, forcing people to cater to his every whim.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAbove all, he would never show people an ounce of kindness. Even as he doted on her in his own way, it was far from how he was pampering her Feifei. Since when was her brother capable of such tender eyes and actions? It was hard to believe he was the same man from a month ago...
When she made eye contact with Yang Feng, he sends her a warning look. She pressed her lips together in annoyance at his threatening eyes, but in the end, she was completely defenseless against him.
Not wanting to put her Feifei into an awkward predicament, she decided to change the topic. "Nothing, I'm just thinking what I forgot, hmm..." She pressed a finger to her chin and suddenly a light bulb went off.
"Oh my goodness, I just remembered why I came here! I got you souvenirs from when I went out of the country. Hold up, let me grab it." Yang Ruqin hurriedly left the room, eager to be away from her older brother.
She didn't like the way he always roughly talked to her, unlike how he treated Feifei...Maybe, just maybe, if the two got together, she could secretly complain to her Feifei and then she can straighten out her brother!
Yang Ruqin felt like patting herself in the back for coming up with such a good plan. But then she paused upon thinking of the consequences.
She knew her brother was a very dangerous man. His head was worth billions and anything that revealed his weakness would be worth just as much. Being a tyrant, it was no surprise there were so many people after him.
The crimes he had committed, the legacies he had destroyed, and the territories he had seized, ensured that everyone in both the underworld and the business world knew how to fear him. Any opportunity to get rid of the Yang family's influence would benefit a lot of people.
Her eyes filled with worry when the same image of Zhao Lifei being kidnapped and tortured for information flashed in her mind once again. If Zhao Lifei is submerged into the world of darkness, would she drown? She knew how strong she was, but her Feifei doesn't deserve that at all.
She glanced back into the room. There, she saw a carefree Yang Feng who was teasing her Feifei. Despite the fact that Lifei seemed to always argue against him, he seemed very happy and content with her.
Yang Ruqin felt her heart torn in conflict. On one hand, she wanted Zhao Lifei to be happy with her brother. And it seems that her brother had truly fallen for her. It was so hard to see him genuinely smile without revealing any trace of malice. He was rarely in a good mood and his idea of happiness was nonexistent. She loved both of them very dearly, but knew in the end, someone would get hurt and above all, she didn't want it to be her Feifei...
