Chapter 420 Attraction
Freya’s body swayed as she desperately gripped a nearby tree branch. She clenched her teeth, forcing herself to
remain strong.
Before dinner, Jamie was probably afraid that she would reveal something during the meal. So, he made her take
her regular medicine, temporarily suppressing her craving for Icy Sea.
If everything went according to his plans, dinner should have ended around now. So, it wast time for her usual
injection of Icy Sea from him.
She couldn’t endure this agony for much longer!
Her hands started trembling, and the shaking became even more violent as the seconds ticked by. So, she soon
found it difficult to stand.
Edward, who was worried that she would fall from the tree, cried, “What’s going on, Freya? Why don’t
you come down? I’ll smuggle you out through the front door!”
Even if they couldn’t pa*s through the front door, he had to find a way to send her away.
Alas, her vision blurred, and the pain was so intense that her craving for Icy Sea became even stronger. She could
barely drag enough oxygen into her lungs as she leaned against the branch for support.
“I-I’m fine,” Freya stuttered through gritted teeth. The opportunity to leave was right in front. of her. She couldn’t
afford to give this up due to this forced addiction that she had never wanted in the first place!
So, she forced herself to reach for the next tree branch..
Not far away, a cold voice suddenly spoke, “Do you think it’s a good idea to let her go?”
Freya, who was on the tree, and Edward, who was standing right below said tree, mechanically turned their heads
toward the source of the voice.
Jamie, who was supported by Monkey, walked over. His arm was bleeding profusely. The wound was probably self-
inflicted in order to keep himself awake.
Edward narrowed his eyes. “Jamie, let her go!”
Jamie merely sneered at Edward as he spat, “Edward, you truly are a wonderful brother. You actually drugged me
for a woman!”
Edward stood in front of Jamie. “I said let her go!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJamie regarded Freya’s trembling hand with mocking eyes. “She’s deeply addicted to drugs. With her current
condition, letting her go would only cause her unending misery. Kundin is not as safe as Florin, and it’s a country rife
with patriarchy. A woman like her will be taken. away by some unsavory men as soon as she makes an appearance
outside.”
Edward couldn’t believe what he was hearing. “What did you say? How did she become addicted to drugs?!”
His voice trembled, and his throat became as dry as the Sahara as he stared at Jamie Fraser. After a while, the
shock in his eyes was replaced by understanding.
Jamie gazed at his younger brother impa*sively. “It’s exactly what you’re thinking. She wasn’t obedient, so I have to
find a way to control her.”
Edward couldn’t bear it any longer and shouted, “She’s not a toy! She’s a person. She is the one I’ve always loved.
How could you treat her like that?!”
He was so furious that he could barely restrain himself from pouncing at Jamie. If it weren’t for the fact that the
person in front of him was his own older brother, he would have given in to his impulse to kill.
“Well, what’s done is done. Do you still want to let her go?” Jamie said calmly, “Edward, I’ve watched you grow up. I
understand your thoughts. Let her stay. You don’t want her to leave, either. I can arrange a formal marriage
certificate for you in Kundin. Plus, she would be able to stay by your side to treat you.
Edward stared at Jamie. After a moment, he let out a cold laugh. “And then what? What about after I die?”
“If your illness doesn’t improve and you pa*s away, I will take care of her. I promise not to harm her. How about
that?” Jamie offered.
Edward clenched his hands tightly. Freya, who was still on the tree, trembled, almost falling down.
“When we were kids, you said the same thing when you took a liking to my cat,” Edward suddenly piped up.
“Jamie, are you interested in her?”
“What nonsense are you spewing? You are my only family in this world! She’s Professor Harlan. I can’t let her go!”
Jamie frowned. There was no such thing as love in his world, only calculations and choices. The only warmth he had
left in his cold, dead heart was reserved for his younger brother.
Edward pursed his lips tightly and approached Jamie.

“Give it to me. I’ve said again and again that I want to set her free.”
Jamie curled his lips into a sneer. “And what makes you think that I’ll give it to you?”
Edward quickly whisked out a small knife from his pocket and pressed it against his neck.
The sudden turn of events made the anguished Freya speak up, “Edward, don’t do anything foolish!”
Jamie felt a chill running down his spine when he caught sight of the metallic shine of the
blade.
Although the knife wasn’t large, it was still more than enough to pierce an artery.
Edward’s gaze was firm as he spoke, “Jamie, I have only ever a*sumed that you injected her with sedatives. I’ve
never thought that I would be so wrong. Give it to me. Now.”
Jamie’s face turned pale!
He looked straight into Edward’s eyes. “You’re willing to sacrifice your life for her?! Do you know how much effort I
put into saving you? Are my efforts worth less than her safety in your eyes?!”
Edward pursed his lips tightly. “Give it to me.”
Jamie’s aura turned chilly; he was well and truly enraged at this point.
“If she leaves, you will die, and I will lose my brother. Are you choosing her over me?”
Edward simply responded, “Brother, I’m dying because of cancer. This has nothing to do with her! You can’t harm
her because of this!”
Jamie pursed his lips tightly and remained silent. The atmosphere was so tense that one could cut the tension with a
butter knife.
Monkey, who was quietly observing the situation, gently released Jamie’s hand and turned to
leave.
Edward immediately pressed the knife against his skin. “You’re not allowed to leave!”
Monkey had actually received a signal from Jamie to catch Freya once she escaped. Alas, he didn’t expect Edward
to notice their plan.
Thus, Monkey had no choice but to freeze where he stood.
Blood droplets flowed down Edward’s neck, and Jamie’s pupils contracted at the sight.

even a miracle couldn’t save Edward from death.
Jamie’s lips trembled as he blurted, “Edward, calm down!”
Edward was the only family he had left.
Edward stared at Jamie with intent. “Brother, give it to her!”
Freya, who was perched on the tree, swayed unsteadily. Jamie glanced at her and reluctantly took out a syringe
from his pocket.
Edward held the knife in one hand and took the syringe with the other. Then, he stepped back toward the tree.
“Freya, catch!”
Freya, who was in a daze, saw Edward throw something up to her. A part of her mind. registered that it was the
very item that would relieve her from this agony. Hence, the desire ravaging her body gave her the strength to
focus.
Nonetheless, she instinctively cast a disgusted look at the syringe when she caught it.
Although she despised this thing and everything it stood for, it was still the only way for her
to escape.
So, she injected the fluid into her bloodstream, and her vision began to blur.
She fell from the tree with a thud and landed on the gra*s below.
Edward rushed over and was relieved that the fall wasn’t too severe. She was sprawled on the ground, clearly
disoriented from the impact and the drug in her system.
He scrutinized her before turning his attention back to Jamie and Monkey, preventing anyone from leaving their
standoff.
After half an hour, Freya’s consciousness gradually returned. Then, she looked at Edward, who was standing guard
over her, and Jamie, who was scowling nearby.
Her physical strength also began to return.
Edward’s voice was tremulous as he murmured, “I’m sorry, Freya. I had no idea my brother
would…”
