Chapter 148 Audrey I woke to the warm sensation of arms around me, holdinggently beneath the covers. A soft smile touched my face as, slowly but surely, the events of last night-and this morning-slowly returned. A party. A fall. A death. And then.. My mate.

My eyes cracked open, and there he was. I couldn't help but let out the tiniest sigh of relief at the sight of him, as if he somehow would have disappeared into thin air in the middle of the night. But he was still here, holding me. And he was already awake-watchingsleep.

"Isn't it a bit creepy to watch a girl sleep?" I purred, nuzzling into his chest and nipping good-naturedly at his skin.

Edwin let out a deep rumble of a chuckle, one that was made even deeper from sleep. It hitthen that I hadn't spent a full night with him before; one of us had always left before the other had awoken, or we had had to return to our own residences. when we were hiding out in that basement room.

I allowed myself a few long moments to savor that feeling of waking up in his arms. And so, it seemed, did he. He tuggeda little closer and rolled onto his back, tuckingfirmly against his chest. I laid there contentedly, swirling lazy circles in his chest hair with my index finger.

Then I let my finger trail lower. Down across the dips and peaks of his abdomen, and then down....

He shivered and let out a small sound of pleasure. But then he caught my wrist before I could go further, brought my hand back up, and pressed kisses to each of my fingers.

"Plenty of tfor that," he murmured between kisses, I propped myself up on one elbow, watching as he kissed my hand. He was right; we did have plenty of time. A lifetime, in fact. And for now, I was content just lazing around with him on a warm and sunny Sunday afternoon, basking in the afterglow of each other.

"What do you want to do today?" he asked when he sawlooking out the window at the sun-flecked street below. Town was already bustling by now.

I bit my lip, considering. "Don't you have work to do?" "I know I'm busy, but I'm not that busy," he teased. "It's Sunday. And besides, I almost lost you last night. I want to spend this long weekend with my mate." Another kiss, this tto the inside of my wrist, right on my pulse point.

A smile touched my lips. "I want that, too." "Then what do you want to do?" He sat up, running a hand through his dark hair. It was tousled with sleep so unlike the usual neat, slick style he sported. I preferred this look.

I shrugged and yawned. A glance at the clock revealed that it was noon now, we had fallen asleep when the sun had cup and had slept through the morning. Just then, a low rumble in my stomach broke through the silence.

My face flushed red, and Edwin laughed. "Breakfast it is, then.

"More like lunch by now "The restaurant in town serves pancakes and waffles all day," he said, throwing the covers back and swinging his legs over the side of the bed. Wearing nothing but briefs, he rose, stretching, the taut muscles in his back catching the sunlight.

Edwin, catching my gaze, smirked. "I'll send Charles to pick sstuff up from your dorm if you want." I stiffened at the thought. My friends would be there-they had likely been trying to textall night, but my phone had been lost in the river along with the rest of my purse. And I loathed to tell them what had happened.

Not yet. I knew it would be an emotional moment for all of us. I wanted to enjoy the day first, and if a strange man was seen walking into my dorm- Edwin, sensing my apprehension through our bond, offereda gentle smile. "No one will see him. Don't worry." I nodded, choosing to trust him. "Okay" In that moment, I looked up to find Edwin's gray eyes looking at me, his gaze intense and searching. But suddenly, his eyes widened, and he abruptly stumbled back, causingto becworried. "What is it?" I blinked.

Edwin leaned down and grabbed my face gently, turning my head back and forth to look at my eyes. His brow furrowed in concentration, and I could feel his heart rate picking up through our bond. "Your eyes," he murmured, "they were glowing pure silver for a moment." My breath caught in my throat as I slowly recalled the events of last night. Those three werewolves at the party, how they had panicked and scurried away when they saw me. I had thought I had seen my eyes glowing silver in the reflection then but I'd dismissed it as a trick of the light.

Panic rising in my chest, I scrambled out of bed and ran to the mirror in Edwin's bathroom. I leaned in close, examining my eyes, but the glow was gone. All I could see were the usual deep blue irises with their new silver flecks.

"Edwin," I called, my voice trembling. "will werewolves hatefor my silver eyes, just like they do for my hair?" I turned to find him standing in the doorway, confusion etched into his face. "Your hair?" he asked, tilting his head.

Swallowing hard, I realized I had never told him about my silver streak. It was always dyed, hidden away from the world. From him.

"I... I have a silver streak," I admitted, pulling back the hair just behind my ear to reveal the roots that were just barely starting to show through. "Right here. I keep it dyed to match the rest of my hair, but..." Edwin stepped closer, his fingers gently brushing the silver strands. "Why would you hide this?" he asked softly.

1 took a deep breath, steeling myself for his reaction. "I've been attacked and ridiculed my entire life for having this silver streak," I explained, my voice hardly more than a whisper. "Other werewolves... they see it as a threat, or a bad omen-keep it dyed to avoid confrontation."

I looked up at him, remembering that day months ago when he had almost discovered my secret. "That's why I hy secret. ran away when you almost saw my roots showing through. I panicked, thinking that you would hateonce you saw it" Edwin was silent. I wrung my hands nervously, waiting for him to say more. But instead, Edwin went pale, his eyes widening as something seemed to dawn on him, and he whispered, "Silver Star."

Those words jolted throughand made my spine stiffen. Silver Star... I m had heard that before, in my visions, Flashes of memories ran through my mind people callingby that name. "Silver Star, remember who you are... And then there was the book I'd found talking about the Silver Wolf 2/3 Fri, Sep 20 Chapter 148

Edwin, whether he meant to or not, felt all of that through our bond. I hadn't realized I'd accidentally o,m relayed those thoughts to him, but I I was glad that I hadn't needed to say it out loud. "But... but it's just a legend, right?" I asked. "The book said the Silver Wolf, the Silver Star, would have pure silver hair and profound abilities. I only have a streak." Edwin remained silent, his expression unreadable. The longer he stood there without speaking, the more my anxiety grew.

"Edwin?" I prompted, reaching out to touch his arm. "Please say something" He blinked, seeming to cback to himself. "L... Of course I don't hate your silver streak," he said softly, pullinginto his arms. "It's just hair." "But the Silver Star- Before I could finish, he pulled back a bit, a small smile on his face. "I think I know what to do after breakfast," he said. "How about a trip to the library?" 0 X Like RICH WOMEN? These women desperately want a mature men!
