The next morning, | woke up in my apartment still in yesterday's clothes, everything intact.
| vaguely remembered Max bringinghthe previous night, and | thought | might have done something to
him.
| couldn't quite put my finger on what happened. | tried calling Richard, but he didn't pick up. Glancing down at
my clothes, | recalled making a bet with Richard that Max was gay, and Max had said something in response.
Looking in the mirror while brushing my teeth, my face was all puffy from drinking, and that was when | noticed a
small bruise at the corner of my mouth.
Oh no! Max had proven he wasn't gay through actions rather than words. My head was pounding. How was |
supposed to face him at work later?
Just then, Richard called back in a groggy voice, "Did you bringhlast night?"

"No, it was Mr. Collins. And, Richard, Max isn't gay. He proved it." | could almost hear Richard jump out of bed on
the other end.
"How did he prove it?" he asked after a moment.
My cheeks instantly heated up. "It's nothing. Don't worry. Everything's fine."
As we talked, it hitthat it had been a month since | was reborn, and | hadn't had my period yet. It felt like
something was filling up inside me. From my past life, | knew | was supposed to get pregnant. | would have
someone related by blood, no longer alone. That's why | didn't take any precautions, even though I knew | would
get pregnant that night. It was my way of making amends for my past life, for my child. In this life, | wanted to be
responsible for my child. Now that Richard was okay and nothing terrible had happened to me, everything
seemed to be on a new path.
Grabbing a piece of toast, | slipped on my shoes and headed straight to the hospital's maternity department for
a blood test.
Leaving the house, | noticed Max wasn't around. Probably, he had gone to work.
| didn't think much of it. Max was like the icing on the cake in this life. But with my heart already so fragile, |
didn't want to disturb his peaceful life.

As | arrived at the maternity department, | saw Max walking in with a woman.
I quickly hid behind a wall, my heart racing. Was | feeling jealous?
He had someone he liked, and they were there for a prenatal check-up. No wonder | hadn't seen him this
morning. He was at the hospital with the woman he cared about.
| sighed, suddenly unsure if | wanted to know whether | was pregnant. But as | was leaving, a nurse called my

As | stepped forward, Max and | locked eyes. | glanced toward the closed door behind him, where the woman he
cwith hadn't emerged.
Trying to sound indifferent, | said, "Dr. Hilton, this is my private matter."
Max remained silent, standing next to me.
| asked, "So, you're waiting for someone inside? Congratulations, Dr. Hilton. Are you going to be a dad?"
He frowned, his eyebrows knitting together. "Who told you that?"
| pointed to my eyes. "I saw it with my own eyes. Plus, aren't you standing here waiting for the results?"
He scoffed and turned away, ignoring me.
