Chapter 206 Perhaps You Should First Submit

Feeling displeased, Eric stared intently at Zachary, who had dropped a bombshell and then left.

His words caused Vera to grow concerned. “Eric… why are you discussing Eileen? What… What

happened to her?”

Eric coughed a few times, feeling another wave of pain in his stomach. He didn’t want anyone to see

him in such a pathetic state. His condition rarely flared up like this in the past because Eileen was

almost always by his side.

Whether it was for work or during socializing after hours, as long as he had a bit of alcohol, she would

scold the person across the table, all just to have him drink less.

If the project failed, he wouldn’t be able to escape Will’s punishment.

For breakfast, lunch, and dinner, she would personally deliver each meal, never allowing him to miss a

single meal.

Ever since Eileen stopped being by his side, Eric kept feeling as if something was missing.

“Nothing much. Why aren’t you sleeping at this late hour?”

Vera felt a bit uneasy because Eric had been hiding something from her. Seeing him like this. Vera

didn’t say anything more. She stroked Eric’s back, lowering her head. “I had a nightmare and couldn’t

sleep, so I came out for a walk.”

Eric placed his hand on top of her head, gently stroking it to comfort her. “Go back to sleep. Don’t you

have to go back to school tomorrow?”

“Let me feed you some oatmeal. You never eat anything when you drink. Vera opened the lunchbox

and scooped out a bowl of oatmeal, which was still piping hot. She blew on it a bit. then held it up to

Eric’s mouth.

Eric looked into her eyes and saw the anticipation in them. Ultimately, he couldn’t bring himself to

refuse.

After finishing the meal, it was nearly three in the morning

Vera was slowly cleaning up when Eric interrupted her. ‘Dawn is almost here Gavin will take care of

this. Go back to sleep”

Vera lowered her head, standing by the bed ‘En. I’m scared to sleep alone Can the next to you for a

while just like when we were kids? You were always by my side back then No matter what I always felt

safe

Eric was staying in the best ward of the hospital, with a bed so large that it could comfortably sleep

three people.

“Vera, we can’t go back to the way things were. You’re still young, but you should understand that there

are differences between men and women. Even if you’re in a relationship, you can’t share a bed with

someone of the opposite sex without being engaged. These things… Vera, I shouldn’t have to teach

you this.” The coldness in Eric’s eyes was telling.

your

Vera retorted in indignance, “Eric, I don’t understand. I’m just scared and want to stay by

side for a while. Why can’t you even fulfill this request of mine? Do you really consider. me your

girlfriend? Isn’t our relationship aimed at marriage?” As she spoke, tears fell down her innocent-looking

face. “The last time I was at home, I saw you kiss Eileen. If you can do such a thing with her, why not

me? Eric… you don’t actually like me, do you? You agreed to be with me just to avoid upsetting me,

right? Because I have depression, and you’re afraid I might do something drastic, isn’t that so? If that’s

really how you feel, Eric, I’d rather not be with you.

I’d even prefer to stay abroad for the rest of my life, never to return!”

Vera ran out crying.

Eric furrowed his brow, quickly dialing Gavin’s number.

His already agitated mood only made Eric feel more frustrated.

Eric gave in to her in every possible way, truly because he didn’t want her to be upset.

Ten minutes later, Eric received a message from Gavin.

“She has been found.”

Gavin stayed up all night in Vera’s ward.

The next morning, on the way to school, Vera sat in the front passenger seat, visibly upset. The entire

journey was filled with silence, with neither of them uttering a single word.

As Eric closed his eyes to rest, the atmosphere inside the car was eerily quiet.

Upon reaching the school gate, Vera didn’t utter a single word. She simply opened the car door and got

out.

Gavin reminded, “Vera, here’s your breakfast

Vera didn’t bother to respond and went straight into school

Eileen was carrying a pancake she bought from a roadside stall and sipping on a cup of milk. As she

was walking, a dog, seemingly appearing out of nowhere, ran up to her and barked. Startled, Eileen

dropped her pancake and in her panic, even threw her milk away as she quickly ran into the school.

The security guard saw this and promptly chased the dog away. After running a considerable distance,

she looked back to see that the dog hadn’t followed her and finally breathed a sigh of relief.

When she was in her teens, a close shave with a mad mastiff at home left her with an indelible fear of

dogs.

When Eric caught sight of her loss of composure, a rare smile broke out across the corners of his

mouth. Even he didn’t realize he was smiling subconsciously.

As she passed by Class Six, she saw Elm there. He was sprawled on the desk and sleeping against

the wall. It had been a long time since she last saw this scene.

“Eileen! Eileen!”

Hearing a voice behind her, Eileen turned around only to see Natalie approaching with two bags

pancakes and milk in her hands.

She stopped in her tracks, waiting for Natalie to catch up.

Natalie handed her the items she was holding. “This is for you. I saw that you were so scared by the

dog that you dropped your breakfast, so I bought you another portion.”

When Eileen saw her panting heavily, with sweat beading on her forehead, she said, “Thank you.”

Natalie had already bought it, so it would be rude for Eileen not to accept it.

This is the first time a friend had bought her breakfast.

“You’re welcome. In a few days, you’ll be taking your Olympiad Math exam, Eileen. I’ll definitely be

there to cheer you on. I’ll be waiting for you outside the exam hall.”

The two of them stepped into the elevator to go upstairs.

“No need, it’s just an exam. You don’t have to wait for me.”

I insist. We’re friends after all! Oh, by the way, I have something for you.” Natalie pulled a glass bottle

filled with tiny stars from her bag. “There are over a thousand little stars in here. all folded by me. I read

in an astrology book that this will bring you good luck.”

A warm feeling spread through Eileen’s heart. Is this what it feels like to have friends?

A faint smile appeared on Eileen’s face, as it her heart was embraced by a ray of warm light t

truly feels comforting.

“Thank you, Natalie. I really love it.”

Although the gifts may seem insignificant and easily purchasable, Eileen felt that Natalie’s affection

was priceless, a feeling that money could never buy.

“After the exams, I’ll give you a gift too!”

“Really?” Natalie’s eyes sparkled as she eagerly held onto her backpack straps. “Okay, no matter what

you give me, I will treasure it.”

“Eileen, I want to be your friend forever.”
