Chapter 145: Taking Down
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
While Lin Jie and his team were preparing to attack the dungeon, many guilds had disseminated the news that they would pay players one silver coin per day to help them go inside the dungeon. These players wouldn’t need to do anything, but just stay put inside the dungeon.
When all the players got offline, the dungeon would be reset. If this issue was not resolved within five hours, all the hard-earned progress would be refreshed and gone.
100 Light points were required to save the dungeon progress. After being played by Lin Jie since the last incident, all the guilds revered the Light points they had as their greatest treasures. 100 Light points could be at least used to exchange for a Light Enchanted Scroll, so it must be wisely spent! As such, they could only resort to hiring other players who were not their members to help them preserve their dungeon progress.
This business opportunity attracted many solo players. They wouldn’t need to do anything in the dungeon, and could still earn money while they switched to other screens to surf the players’ forum or look at pretty girls. Who wouldn’t want such easy money?
No matter what, the guild members still needed to rest.
During this period, the well-rested Savage Blade team were killing off the Devourers efficiently in the Shadow Area. Baili Changcheng was full of praises for the Self-Combusted Spider tool—this was such an ingenious Way to conquer the dungeon!
With the addition of a powerful Mage such as Domestic Fat Cattle, their efficiency was greatly increased. This was expected—after all, he would really need to possess some true skills to remain as No. 2 on the Rankings Board.
[Phoenix Firework]: Passive skill. Your Fire damage will have an additional damage effect of 1% of your target’s maximum health bar cap. The total Damage you dealt out will not exceed your own Mana Attack Power.
With a passive skill such as the ‘Phoenix Firework’, Domestic Fat Cattle could easily deal out twice as much damage to the Devourers than the others. The logic worked like this: when he cast a Fire Explosion spell, its effects would be equivalent to double of what others could cast. Just imagine how impressive it would be if he managed to deal out a Critical Hit!
In comparison, the attack output by the Wine God Brothers seemed more ordinary. Though they weren’t that eye-catching, they kept their output consistent and didn’t commit any mistakes.
The highly-focused team did not commit any low-level mistakes, and under the correct leadership, they managed to kill 24 Devourers. The fragments spawned nicely patched up to become a skill book, “Devour”.
[Devour]: Used by carnivorous pets. When pets are not in attack mode, they can devour their enemies’ corpse and recover 500 health points. They can also devour a comrade’s corpse and inherit 40% of its attributes.
“Childe, release your pet,” urged Lost Camel when he obtained the skill book.
Unexpected Childe was an Assassin Hunter, and before he reached level 40, he was forbidden to let his pets join in any battle. Even if he changed jobs, his pets would only be allowed to utilize up till 50% of its Attack Power.
Unexpected Childe summoned his own pet suspiciously—it was actually a Leader level Killer Bee! Flying pets had the highest attacking power and speed. Coupled with its Critical Hit ability with Armor Ignore effect, this Killer Bee was definitely the dream pet of all Pet Hunters.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtLost Camel shot a few arrows and killed off the Killer Bee easily. He then turned and patted on his wolf’s backside.
“Awo—” The wolf ran ahead and devoured the Killer Bee in a few mouthfuls, and its claws turned narrow and sharp.
“Dear, you died so tragically!” wailed Unexpected Childe as he hugged the bits of wings that was left after his Killer Bee was eaten.
Lost Camel grinned widely and commented, “Your Dear’s attributes are not too bad. Next time, before every battle, prepare a set of your Dear for my Dear.”
Dong!
The ground shook.
Dong! Dong!
Within the dark mist, a Shrek look-alike head was revealed to the team. Its white teeth occupied almost all of its face, and its body was akin to that of a jellyfish, which was made up of ten thousand plus transparent pillar-size tentacles.
[Light Sporelok·Gnar]: Level 15 Enhanced Overlord, Health Points: 5,000,000.
“Wth, did I see wrongly?” Zheng Ziliang rubbed his eyes and said, feeling rather stunned. “How many zeros are there after that figure 5?”
Mixed Breathless replied, “It had 5 million health points.”
“Omg... Brother Fu Sheng, can I back out now?” asked Baili Changcheng in a faint voice.
The second Boss Gnar had up to 5,000,000 health points! It’s attacking styles were the same as the Devourers—by eating up its enemies. In other words, healing jobs were useless in front of it, as none of its targets could escape from it.
“It’s not that difficult to take down Gnar. Come here,” Lin Jie squatted on the ground and drew 45 circles, surrounding the Boss right in the middle. “This battle is just a test of positioning, everyone needs to stay at three exact positions respectively. No matter how the Boss attacks, you are only allowed to move within these three positions.”
“Gnar only has one skill, which is to curl up players with its tentacles, throw its prey up in the air, catch, and then devour it. This process has three steps: curling up, throwing it into the air and devouring it.”
“When it’s curling up its prey, an attack wave will be caused, and its diameter is around 10 meters or so. When escaping from its tentacles, you just need to jump. In the case when anyone is caught, Camel and Childe, shoot them down with your arrows to rescue them. Lastly, about the devouring step, you will be able to move the moment you are thrown into its mouth. Gnar only has 10 tongues, and each tongue has 100 health points only. Just kill the tongue in one shot, and you will be able to escape.”
Everyone drew a deep breath after listening to Lin Jie’s explanation.
Even though the Boss only had one skill, it had up to a few ten thousands tentacles! Ordinary Bosses had different stages of developments, and as a Boss in the game’s Main Plot dungeon, it would definitely go through the stages of developments too. It was obvious how strong this Boss could get!
Netherblue asked, “What is the Boss’s health points cap for each stage of development?”
“Gnar doesn’t have any health points cap for its stages of development,” commented Lin Jie, “In the Normal-level dungeon, Gnar can use 1,000 tentacles, and only 10 tentacles will attack players initially. Each time its health bar is lowered by 1%, the number of tentacles it can use will increase by 1% too.”
“What about in the Hero-level mode?”
“It can use 10,000 tentacles. Only 100 tentacles will be in charge of attacking at first, but the rest are the same. It’s skill levels will not increase,” replied Lin Jie in a serious tone.
“Just in case we are devoured, will the Boss inherit our Stats?”
“More accurately, it will inherit 10 times of our Stats.”
Everyone’s expressions turned grim. If the Boss in the first dungeon was already so strong, what would be waiting for them when they progressed on?
“Don’t worry, I have prepared these for everyone.” Lin Jie took out a few packets of potions and started distributing it to everyone. Looking at their hopeful expressions, he smiled and announced, “These are suicidal potions if you can’t escape in time, poison yourself!”
“...”
“Lol, I was still thinking this might be some invincible potion,” chuckled Water as he held on to a bottle of potion in his mouth. “Okay, let’s start work now!”
Everyone stood up and surrounded the Boss in the middle from their stipulated positions, and focused on their allocated respective spots.
“Aye, you lousy grandson!”
Going into Defense mode, Mixed Breathless activated Taunt and Shield Fortress, beginning his attack!
Gnar reached out 100 tentacles from its petrifying body, and 50 were aimed at Mixed Breathless. Its tentacles slapped onto the ground like shots of laser beams!
Mixed Breathless aimed for one of his allocated coordinates and retreated to that spot hurriedly. Shoosh! 10 plus tentacles swept across the ground, but it did not reach Mixed Breathless!
‘Fu Sheng’s spots were effective!’ Mixed Breathless felt more reassured now. As an MT, he just hoped to follow a leader who’s clear in his head, and that’s all he ever wanted from a team! Other than that, his other job would be to absorb damage for his teammates!
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Shoosh——”
Tens of tentacles swept towards everyone. As the tentacles were all gathered together and there weren’t lots of them, one could just change his position to avoid them.
“Oh freak!”
“Oh freak!”
Domestic Fat Cattle cursed as he dodged the tentacles. He took out a Magic Rune in his right hand, and his left hand made up various patterns while he muttered spells under his breath... This was a style of Magic that only Advanced Mages could use!
In The New Age, the casting of spells by Mages was extremely complicated. Magic could be divided into 16 different levels. The first type of magic learned by players, the Elemental Magic, belonged to the lowest level of Magic. If players could enroll into advance institutions – of which the best would be Winter Castle, the supposed sanctuary of all Mages – they could learn Advanced Magic or even Legendary Magic.
Advanced Magic required the magic caster to chant a spell and make several hand patterns at the same time. If one was not that highly-skilled, he would require some materials, such as Magic Runes, to help him.
Right now, the magic spell which Domestic Fat Cattle was trying to cast was the Advanced Magic “Flame Meteorite”. This was one of the lowest ranking spells among Advanced Magic, but even so, not anyone could cast it.
He was desperate to show off his ability at Advanced Magic.
However, the Boss’ frequent devouring and attacking mechanisms did not allow him any more time to stand at a spot and finish casting the spell. It would normally require a long time of about 30 seconds to finish casting an Advanced Magic spell. Luckily one could perform the hand patterns, mutter the spells and read the Magic Runes all at the same time, or else it would even take up to one minute to finish casting Advanced Magic spells.
The two Hunters could maintain their attack outputs easily, as they just needed to shoot out their arrows while dodging the Boss’ attacks. There was a group of 100+ damage figures floating up, all brought about by their arrows. This was reasonable, as the Boss had pretty good defense capabilities.
It was harder for melee attack jobs to attack the Boss. In the three spots that Lin Jie set for himself, he could only deal out his attacks from one spot, and every time he could do so for less than one second. As such, it greatly limited his attack output.
“Fat Cattle, what are you doing?” asked Netherblue quizzically. She had avoided half a minute of attacks by the Boss but did not see any attacks by Domestic Fat Cattle.
Cold sweat dripped down from Domestic Fat Cattle’s head after he heard her comment. Netherblue was like a goddess to Domestic Fat Cattle – with her precise actions and attacking stances, she gave off heroic vibes, which made her stood out from Qiu Yuan and Bu Yi – and he favored her the most out of the three girls. Now, as he thought his goddess was doubting his abilities, he lost his cool, and his Magic Rune almost dropped to the floor.
“Don’t use bombastic spells, just kill it off with consistent, simple spells,” reminded Dejected Night as he watched from the side, busily casting the Ice Spear spells in his hands.
Meanwhile, Zheng Ziliang had summoned the Water Overlord to position itself in front of him. As the Water Overlord belonged to the Elemental type of creatures, it could not be curled up by the tentacles even if they touched it. As such, Zheng Ziliang was having a whale of time dodging the attacks.
“No, I want to cast Advanced Magic spells! Flame Meteorite!” shouted Domestic Fat Cattle in a dejected manner. He didn’t notice a few tentacles had transformed into transparent spears and were aiming at his head!
Hunter’s Forward Charge!
Lin Jie changed his weapons and enlarged the Shield of Courage. He rushed in front of Domestic Fat Cattle and threw out the Self-Combusted Spiders!
Swoosh! Swoosh! Swoosh!
A whole group of spiders was thrown out. They were all curled up by the tentacles and swallowed in a gulp!
