Ludwig was a mystery to Liam but he didn't allow that to distract him too much.
While he was busy listening to the conversation of the natives for quite a while, the last armaments were finally sold. Everyone had rested long enough to get up and move to the third basement. Thus the group made their way through a small tunnel that led them to the third basement.
Once he was inside the tunnel, Liam detected all kinds of traps which he avoided rather easily. Since the natives were still quite inexperienced he was about to warn them about the traps, not expecting them to discover them. However, Ludwig discovered all traps easily and deactivated them one after another.
After the traps were deactivated, Jennie quickly moved from one area to another, searching for treasures. Her gut feeling was spot on when it came to treasures and soon found two keys and three black notes that rewarded her with Arcanium.
Liam could tell that Jennie had earned a lot of Arcanium through the black tickets by now. Jennie didn't look excited at the sight of the black notes and tore them apart without taking a second glance at them. She was more interested in the keys which she handed over to Liam as the leader of the group. Liam didn't really feel like being their leader but everyone, including Ludwig, was well aware of Liam's strength and knowledge.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThey were also in the underground tower of his sister. He should know a lot more about his sister's behavior and petty tricks than anyone else.
However, it was Ludwig who easily found out and alerted them of all the traps, not him. That was why Liam couldn't really understand what was going on in the heads of the natives. Were they even thinking properly, in the first place?
Liam didn't know but he couldn't care less either. The only thing that attracted his interest right now was Ludwig's Arcane Power, his control of it, and how easily he detected each trap.
Liam detected the traps as well by using his Devil's Eyes Soultrait but that was not the same. When they emerged on the third floor, they were greeted by a bunch of Shedim. But this time around there were no Ordinary, Elite, or Mutant Elite Shedim. Instead, they were facing a large batch of Canine Shedim.
There were different types of Canines in the third basement but all of them had pale, mottled and burned flesh that was covered in black scales. Each of them had eerily long fangs and their legs were adorned by claws that could cut through the black basalt that was found in abundance on the floor, walls, and ceiling.
Some also had wings that they could use. The Canine Shedim were much faster than the Mutant Elite Shedim, but that was not even the biggest problem.
Upon entering the third basement floor of the underground tower, Liam discovered numerous pictures and other stuff. His eyes darted toward the traps he had discovered at once. His royal purple eyes that gleamed like a sealed galaxy detected everything without a problem. This also meant that he noticed how the Canine Shedim were able to run through the traps' triggers without activating them.
'You played like this, sis?' Liam asked himself rhetorically while retrieving one of the many Lumina Needles in his possession.
"Light!" He shouted as a warning for the others while throwing the activated Lumina Needle forward. His hands reached out for the Black Tarthear Needles and the Arcane Kunai obeyed his commands. Everything happened at the same time as a dazzling light filled the entire large hallway that was flooded by the Canine Shedim.
Liam threw more than a dozen Black Tarthear Needles at the Canine Shedim while the Arcane Kunai shot forward, slicing through the neck of the closest Lesser Demon while Liam blasted forward.
Rex released a big bolt of lightning toward the most crowded area of the Canine Shedim, creating a domino effect at the moment of impact. Three Canine Shedim were killed by the explosion that occurred just a moment later, while more than ten Canine Shedim were thrown back due to the bolts of golden lightning that spread out. Liam took note of everything and he started to fight fiercely.
After he had killed more than four Canine Shedim, the dazzling light of the Lumina Needles dispersed. Only then was Liam able to see once again.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThat was roughly what he had expected to happen. However, what he didn't expect was that Ludwig would appear next to him, flashing a smile as he cut down the Canine Shedim with his halbert that vibrated violently because of the Arcane Power that flooded every nook and cranny of the Black Steel Halbert's blade.
Liam took note of that but he chose to ignore it for the time being. Kian was the next to appear beside Liam. He was not as efficient in cutting down the Canine Shedim, but it was already good that he didn't die. After all, the Canine Shedim were considered as superior existences to Elite Shedim.
They may not be stronger in terms of raw strength but they were wild predators that had lightning reflexes and sharp instincts that turned them into fearsome creatures. As for the sharpness of their fangs and claws, that was self-explanatory, and clearly visible to the eye!
Kian fared pretty decently, pushing forward while using the generated momentum to pierce the Black Steel Spear at the closest Canine Shedim with the intention to drill the blade deep inside the Lesser Demon's vital points. After his weapon connected, Kian would twist the spear blade inside the Canine Shedim before retreating quickly.
As for Felicia and Olivia, they were doing decently as well. They joined the fight a second or two later but their combat prowess and fearlessness of the razor-sharp claws and fangs made it clear that they were ready to put their lives on the line in order to kill and advance.
Liam implemented this kind of fighting style for himself as well. He would rather attack than be forced to defend, which was what could be seen quite evidently. He used all his might to push forward and eliminate as many opponents as possible in the shortest timeframe.
However, there was only one problem with the others.
They were not able to see the traps as well as he could.
Thus, as time progressed, the natives were getting too full of themselves and Kian pushed further ahead, oblivious to the trap that was less than a meter away from him.
"Step back, you idiot!"
