Chapter 900

After Nicole left with Hayden, Zachary was left alone in the large house. He sat on the sofa in a mild daze, his head

tilted. There used to be a housekeeper working in the villa before, but he dismissed the housekeeper after arriving

here.

Meanwhile, in the car, Gabriel took the wheel while Nicole and Hayden sat in the back. As if recalling something, he

suddenly asked, "Have you always been living with Zachary Yates?"

Nicole did not avoid the topic and nodded in response instead. "Hayden once got kidnapped at my previous place,

so we moved here for safety reasons. Zachary is almost always abroad, so we don't see each other that much. But

he's been in the country recently, so we've been living together."

"Are you two…" Gabriel lifted his gaze and looked at Nicole in the rearview mirror.

Knowing what he was about to ask, she shook her head and denied, "We're just friends."

Gabriel pursed his lips, his eyes looking straight ahead at the road and his foot on the gas pedal as he said in a low

voice, "I can see that Zachary likes you. The Yates Family are quite powerful themselves. I don't think you will suffer

hardships if you choose to marry him."

For some reason unbeknownst to her, Nicole would always feel her heart skip a beat whenever Zachary was

mentioned. Not knowing what to say, she hummed lowly in reply.

"I know, but I don't have any romantic feelings toward him. Besides, I have Hayden…"

Gabriel smiled and didn't continue probing.

Nicole placed her arm against the car window, propping her chin with her palm as she stared at the scenery outside

in a daze. She suddenly thought she was rather selfish. Though she didn't like Zachary, she knew that he liked her,

and she felt like a wicked person who took advantage of other people's affection. However, she was unable to go

against her heart and say that she liked him. Zachary treated her well, but she always felt guilty for being unable to

reciprocate his feelings.

After that, Gabriel did not continue the conversation.

Once they arrived at Gould Residence, Rita could be seen waiting at the gates first thing in the morning. She

must've been told about Nicole's matter. After seeing Nicole getting out of the car, she came over, her sallow face

full of smiles as she held Nicole with one hand and looked her up and down.

In the end, she let out a gasp in astonishment. "I was wondering why she looked so familiar. So, you're my

granddaughter."

Feeling unsettled by her touch, Nicole froze and called out in a low voice, "Nice to meet you, Old Mrs. Gould."

Rita wasn't bothered by Nicole's way of addressing herself as she was too busy smiling from ear to ear. She

caressed the back of Nicole's hand with her palm and said emotionally, "I can't imagine how much suffering you've

suffered over the years. I've heard Gabriel talk about you a lot; that woman really is despicable!"

Gabriel smiled and didn't continue probing.

reciprocate his feelings.

Nicole did not reply.

Upon seeing Nicole's awkward demeanor, Hayden, the ever clever one, squeezed in from the side, his words as

sweet as honey as he commented, "Grandma Rita, Mommy has never suffered over the years, because she has me

by her side."

As Rita turned her attention to Hayden and saw his round face, her eyes lit up and she lovingly stroked his head.

"What's your name, young boy?"

"You can call me Hayden, Grandma Rita." Hayden raised his head, a smile of innocence appearing on his face.

The servants helped unload all their luggage from the car, and the Gould Family arranged a spacious and well-

equipped room for her. Hayden was not only clever but also honey-mouthed, and he greeted his grandparents as

soon as he arrived, causing the entire Gould Family to be very fond of him.

While Gabriel took Nicole around to familiarize herself with the Gould Residence, Hayden chattered continuously to

Siobhan, so she let him remain by her side.

After Nicole left, Hayden glanced around with his dark eyes as if something had occurred to him inadvertently and

asked, "Grandma, can you bring my daddy over too after some time? I miss my daddy."

Nicole did not reply.
