“What did he send?” Josiah quickly put the food down and leaned in close to look.

Winnie furrowed her brows as she handed him the phone.

Josiah took it over from her and read the message out loud, “The celebrity has been bailed out. All

that’s left to do is to wait for Xavier to come back. When will he be back?”

After reading through the text, Josiah scrolled through the phone’s inbox and said, “I don’t see any

other messages. What does this mean? Who’s the celebrity? What are they planning to do?”

Winnie massaged her aching forehead. “I don’t know. Let me think…”

Josiah nodded and returned the phone to her. “Just take your time. Here, I’ll drive while you think about

it.”

“Okay.” Winnie knew she was in no condition to drive, so she did as told and swapped places with him.

After getting into the passenger seat, Winnie rolled the window down fully to get some fresh air.

As it was quite a windy day in the countryside, the fresh air blowing on her face helped clear her head

instantly.

She turned to look at Josiah and exclaimed, “Oh, I remember now! The celebrity named Shania

Hamilton! She got arrested a while back for assaulting someone with a knife. She was aiming for me,

but Nate shielded me from the attack. We then called the police and had her arrested.”

“Oh, right, I remember that incident! You told me she hated you because Xavier had her blacklisted,

right?” Josiah asked with a frown.

“Yeah.” Winnie nodded. “That’s exactly what happened. Well, technically, she wasn’t just aiming for me.

She was also going for Xavier.”

“That explains everything, then. Stuart wants Xavier dead, but he doesn’t want to get his hands dirty, so

he gets someone else to help him do it. Since Shania happens to have a motive for killing you two,

she’s the perfect tool for the task,” Josiah said.

Winnie let out a huge sigh. “Yeah, that’s probably the case. This reminds me, Granny asked me about

Shania’s motives when we were done giving our statements at the police station. She told me that she

asked the police officers about Shania’s motives, but they didn’t tell her anything. Had I not told my

granny the truth, she wouldn’t have figured it out even if she had been present at the scene. Stuart

somehow managed to find out about it and is using Shania to get at Xavier. How did he find out,

though? Could it be that Granny provided him with that information? I was wondering if Granny had

been tricked into helping Stuart out, but… Now that I think about it, there might be more to Granny than

meets the eye. I feel like Granny knew exactly what she was doing all along. In fact, she might’ve been

the one who orchestrated some of that stuff. Why would she do that, Josiah? The Granny I know would

never do such a thing! She would never!”

Winnie ended up crying after saying that last sentence.

Josiah had never seen her this upset before, and it pained him deeply to hear her sob.

He instinctively slowed the car down and asked, “How about I send you home instead? You could get

some rest while I head over to see Old Mr. Fairchild.”

Winnie massaged her aching forehead and replied after a brief pause, “It’s fine. I don’t feel like resting

anyway.”

She then pulled out her phone and called Mary, who was in charge of looking after Jacinta.

“Mary, how is my granny doing? Is she all right?” Winnie asked the moment the call got through.

Mary sounded a little worried as she said, “Same old. She still won’t eat, drink, or speak to anyone.

Mrs. Fairchild, should we send her to a hospital?”

“Not yet. We’ll discuss this further when I get back. For now, just try your best to talk her into eating.

Remember, do not let her contact anyone other than me,” Winnie replied with a worried frown.

“I understand. I don’t think Mdm. Sumner would want to contact anyone either.”

“All right, we’ll talk later. Inform me immediately if anything happens.”

Winnie hung up the phone after saying that.

Josiah shot her a glance and asked, “By the way, how will you reply to Stuart’s message? In fact,

should we even be replying to him?”

“Yes, we should. We don’t want him calling us,” Winnie replied decisively.

“What will you tell him?”

“I’ll just tell him that I’m not sure yet. I’ll have to talk to Granny when I get back.” Winnie then looked

straight ahead as she continued, “Step on it. We need to get this DNA test done as soon as possible.”

Josiah nodded and floored the accelerator.

The two soon arrived at the Fairchild residence.

Rufus was a little surprised when he saw Winnie, as Josiah didn’t tell him she would be coming along.

“What brings you two here today?” he asked curiously when he saw the solemn looks on their faces.

Winnie got straight to the point and said, “Grandpa Rufus, there’s something we need to confirm with

you.”

That aroused his curiosity even further. “What is it?”

Instead of answering his question, Winnie simply shot Josiah a glance in response.

Josiah took the hint and retrieved the document from a folder.

“Here you go, Old Mr. Fairchild. This is something related to you that happened ten years ago. I’m not

sure if you still remember this,” he said while handing Rufus the document.

“Related to me?” Rufus mumbled as he had someone fetch his reading glasses.

The look on his face grew increasingly gloomy as he continued reading through the document.

He got so unhappy that he stopped reading it halfway through and asked, “Where did you two get this

stuff from? Why investigate something that happened so many years ago?”

Winnie looked him in the eye and said, “This is very important to us, Grandpa Rufus. We spent a lot of

time and resources investigating this, so could you please tell us honestly if this is true?”

“It doesn’t matter if it’s true. Tell me, why are you two looking into this?” Rufus asked sternly after a

brief pause.

“Because this person is coming after us,” Winnie replied with a frown.
