Chapter 144
“You better not let me catch you. Otherwise, I'll let you find out how it feels like to wish for nothing but
death.”
The boss of the thugs laughed mockingly. “I've been in Hallsbay for so many years and have never
been arrested. I'm looking forward to you trying to find me. Bring her away.”
Without resisting, Bailey let the two thugs drag her toward a room on the left of the warehouse.
Moments after she left, the noise of people fighting sounded from outside.
The dozen or so thugs inside, including their boss, rushed toward the entrance.
Bailey kicked the two thugs beside her away, causing them to collapse onto the ground. Then, she
dashed out rapidly.
When she reached the entrance, she saw a scene that almost made her lose all hope.
A bodyguard in black shoved a thug to the side, sending him crashing onto the ground beside Zayron.
However, the thug was holding a knife, which he then thrust toward Zayron's heart.
“Zayron!” roared Bailey at the top of her lungs. She wanted to sprint over, but it was too far. All she
could do was watch helplessly as the sharp blade approached her son's heart.
“No!” Another hysterical yell sounded.
The fighting stopped as everyone glanced over.
They had all undergone special training before. Naturally, they could tell that it was a fatal blow. If the
knife stabbed Zayron's heart, he would die on the spot.
Bailey widened her eyes, which were completely bloodshot.
Just then, a figure rushed over and pulled Zayron into his arms in the nick of time. However, there was
no time for him to dodge anymore. The knife stabbed right into his back.
Spurt!
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe sound of the knife slicing into his flesh was exceptionally jarring in the silent environment.
“Mr. Luther!”
In the next second, two exclamations of shock rang out. Ken and Dwayne rushed out from the corner of
the warehouse. They sprinted toward Artemis and grabbed him before he collapsed onto the ground.
Artemis' back was bleeding uncontrollably, looking like it would not stop anytime soon. The situation
was extremely severe.
However, he paid no attention to his injury. Looking at Zayron, who was lying in his arms, he squeezed
out a smile. “Are you okay? Were you injured?”
A complicated look appeared in Zayron's eyes. Still stunned, he asked, “Do you like Mommy so much
that you're willing to give up your life for her?”
Artemis chuckled. “Doesn't liking someone mean that you will sacrifice everything without a care in the
world? I've got a later starting point than Eddy and your father. I can only make up for it with my life.”
Zayron pursed his lips and crawled out of his arms carefully. “Don't move! I'll ask Mommy to save you.”
With that, he ran to Bailey and hugged her thigh. Choking on his tears, he pleaded, “Mommy, save him!
That knife stabbed his back. You're the only one here who can save him.”
Everything had happened in an instant, and it took Bailey a moment to regain her senses from the
shock and despair that had previously engulfed her. When she saw her son standing in front of her, the
joy of regaining her precious boy washed over her.
Bending down, she hugged him and mumbled, “Everything's all right now. I'll never let you experience
something like this again.”
Zayron was not in the mood to console her. He quickly pushed her hands away and urged anxiously,
“Look at Mr. Luther now! He's barely hanging in there. He might die!”
Only then did Bailey return to her senses and rush toward Artemis.
When she approached him, she could smell the stench of blood all around her. It caused her to feel
dizzy.
Bailey Jefferson! You must not back out anymore! If he hadn't blocked the knife with his back, your son
would've died on the spot. There wouldn't have even been a chance to try to save him.
However, even though she was forcing herself to confront her fear, she could not move her legs at all. It
was as if they were filled with lead.
Seeing Bailey standing there fixedly, Ken panicked. He tugged her shirt and pleaded earnestly, “Ms.
Jefferson, I'm begging you! Please save Mr. Luther! After finding out that Zayron was kidnapped, he
rushed over immediately. He didn't even hesitate when he saw Zayron in danger and blocked the knife
with his back. Are you going to watch him bleed to death?”
Bailey's body was swaying.
The scene of that operating table from three years ago appeared in her mind. It felt like all she could
see was blood.
Sounding like she was on the verge of tears, she said, “I'm sorry! I'm sorry! I can't save him. I really
can't! Send him to the hospital right now! Send him there right now!”
Dwayne grabbed her elbow. Emphasizing every word, he reminded, “Bailey, you're the best surgeon in
the world. You're the only one who can save him. The knife stabbed into his heart from his back. Any
other doctor would not even dare to extract the knife. All they can do is to watch him slowly die.”
Bailey's body was still trembling violently.
Dwayne continued, “Furthermore, we're so far away from the city. It'll take at least half an hour to reach
there. It's a bumpy path down the mountain too. Are you sure that he can withstand the turbulent
journey? He might die on the way before we even reach the hospital.”
“I-I...” Bailey began crying out of anxiety. “I-I...”
At that moment, she felt a strong grip on her wrist.
She glanced down subconsciously and saw Artemis holding her arm.
He was lying in Ken's arms. It was very dangerous for him to grab her hand in that position. If he was
careless, he might cause his injury to worsen. Shocked, she immediately squatted and yelled, “Why are

Artemis turned his head around and flashed her a weak smile.
Perhaps because he had lost too much blood, his cheeks were deathly pale—even more so than a
ghost.
“Although a little fierce, you're still concerned about me. Don't be afraid. I'm entrusting my life to you. It
doesn't matter whether I die. Just save me without any concerns.”
After speaking, blood dribbled down the corner of his lips. Bailey knew that he was suffering from an
internal injury, and it was a severe one too.
“Shut up!” roared Bailey furiously.
Artemis laughed and said hoarsely, “You never lose your temper when you're with Edmund, but you've
got a hot temper with me. Even so, I like it. If I can make you feel happy, angry, or sad, it means that
I've started to occupy a significant spot in your heart.”
Bailey was stunned.
Artemis' right! I actually lost my temper in front of him. Why? Did he really leave such an important
mark in my life?
“Ms. Jefferson, quickly think of a way to stop Mr. Luther's bleeding! If he continues to lose blood, he'll
die!”
Ken's urgent reminders pulled her out of her thoughts.
She shook her head and dispelled all those nonsensical thoughts from her mind. After taking a deep
breath, she said to Dwayne, “Bring a sharp knife to me.”
Immediately, a bodyguard in black passed her a knife.
She took it and cut open the clothes on Artemis' back. Luckily, since it was still summer, he only wore a
shirt. Otherwise, it would be much more troublesome.
When Bailey saw the knife in his back and the wound that was bleeding incessantly, she started to feel
dizzy again. However, she forced herself to hang in there and started examining his wound carefully.
Upon careful scrutiny, she could not help but gasp sharply.
