Chapter 211
The room fell into silence.
Jay was put into a difficult situation. Five million dollars was a small amount to him, not even a fraction
of what he would invest in a movie. It would be as easy as a fick of his wrist. However, he didn’t trust
Larissa.
He could tell that Larissa was a tough cookie. She wasn’t the naive, sweet girl who would do anything
to repay the kindness of Xavier and Yvette he had thought she was. Hence, it was very likely that the
live million dollars would go to waste.
On the flip side of things, Larissa was a good match for his loolish son, given her tough personality. If
they got married, he wouldn’t be worried about the future generations of his family. He was confident
his family would last for the next hundred years with her around.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter a moment of thought, he attempted to negotiate with Larissa, “Why don’t I pay you a million
dollars first? You’ll get the remainder after you register your marriage?”
It wouldn’t bother him if the one million dollars promised went to waste. If that happened, he would just
treat it as compensation for Larissa.
However, Larissa rejected his proposal, saying, “No.”
Refusing to back down, she went on to say. “Just as you don’t trust me, I don’t trust you either. After we
register our marriage, you’ll get to decide whether to give me the remaining money. By that time, I
would be a member of your family, so Mr. and Mrs. Seymour won’t stand up for me anymore.”
She made sure to enunciate the words “Mr. and Mrs. Seymour”, which made Yvette’s face turn pale.
“Since you are not committed to this, let’s end the conversation here.”
Larissa stood up and got ready to leave.
“Wait!” Jay hurriedly said. “Let me discuss it with Mrs. Seymour.”
“Fine,” Larissa said. She didn’t seem very thrilled. “In that case, I’ll make a move first.”
“Reuben, follow Larissa out” Jay instructed.
Obediently, Reuben trailed behind Larissa. Leaving the study. Larissa ignored Reuben as she walked,
her eyes fixed on the floor.
Reuben caught up with her and stopped her from going further, asking. “Are you really willing to marry
Do-no, are you willing to marry me?
“Well, do I have a choice?” Larissa asked, laughing dryly. “Isn’t this what you wanted?”
Reuben’s lips quivered as he hesitated to speak. Finally, he answered. “I’m sorry.”
Larissa shouldered past him, heading to the staircase, where Mrs. Harris was standing.
Blocking the stairs leading to the ground floor, she deadpanned. “You can’t go downstairs.”
Larissa had no intention of going downstairs as only Lana and Dorian were in the living room. There
was no way she wanted to bring herself more suffering by meeting them. However, Mrs. Harris’s

“Why can’t I go downstairs?” she asked.
“You just can’t go downstairs. Why do you need a reason?” Mrs. Harris snapped impatiently.
Since the staircase was rather far from the living room, Larissa couldn’t tell what was going on in the
living room, but she could vaguely make out the voices of people in conversation.
“Hey! You can’t go upstairs? Lana’s alarmed shout rang out clearly,
Larissa turned towards the sound to see someone she never expected to be there. Walking briskly
toward her was Kevan. The moment he spotted Larissa, the cold expression on his face melted.
“Larissa!” he called joyfully, hastening his steps toward her.
Mrs. Harris had received Lana’s order to stop Larissa from going downstairs but she didn’t know
whether she was supposed to stop
Kevan from going upstairs. Taking advantage of her confusion, Kevan walked past her and headed
straight to Larissa.
Reaching out for Larissa’s hand, he made it to the top of the stairs.
