Chapter 318
Having left Larissa's lap, the kitten became increasingly uncertain. This environment was completely
unfamiliar to it, and its deep blue eyes were filled with fear. It meowed a few times, looking around for
that familiar figure before it curled back into its spot in the corner of the sofa due to not being able to
find Larissa.
It looked rather pitiful with the way it trembled. In a trance, Kevan seemed to see Larissa as she was
that night in the emergency hall, waiting. So, he involuntarily went over and picked up the kitten,
placing it in his own lap. Its tiny body gave off heat, so it seemed to resemble an eco-friendly hand
warmer on this cold winter day.
Kevan mimicked Larissa's movements, stroking its little head, before slowly moving to the soft fur on its

concentration and calming the mind. At least, in these few minutes, he felt good-especially when the
little thing started being affectionate around him.
He kept imagining the cat as her.
Maybe-just maybe-he could allow this cat to stay.
Larissa showered as quickly as possible before rushing out of the bedroom. The imagined chaos in her
mind did not happen, on the contrary, both man and kitten were coexisting harmoniously in the living
room. They each sat or lay on the ends of the sofa, with a large space left between them. Neither
disturbed the other.
Kevan was holding the TV control, flipping randomly between channels, while the kitten had already
fallen asleep.
"She ... didn't make you angry, did she?" Larissa asked carefully.
"No," Kevan replied, and she breathed out a sigh of relief. Gently picking up the kitten, Larissa placed it
back into the cage that Violet brought it in.
Bopping its nose again, she said quietly, "Good night.'
"I'm going to bed." She was rather self-aware, and Kevan just grunted in acknowledgment.
Just as Larissa was pushing her bedroom door open, she heard him say, "If you really want to keep it,
it's fine."
"What?" Larissa thought she was hallucinating.
Kevan turned off the TV and repeated what he said patiently. "So you won't complain about being
bored every day." He said it as if he had run out of ways to deal with her. "But—"
His shift made Larissa hold her breath.

"Of course!" Larissa quickly promised. "I will take care of the sanitation every day!"
"It's best if you do," Kevan said.
When Violet came the next day, she was surprised to see the kitten was napping on the sofa
unharmed. Based on her heartless son's attitude, she thought he would have gutted and skinned it
alive before throwing it out the window.
She asked Larissa, "Kevan ... didn't do anything to the cat, did he?"
"No." Larissa recalled Kevan's threat last night and added, "He only requested that I clean up well."
"Oh." Violet felt a little sour. Having raised her son to adulthood, he still belonged to someone else. But
luckily, her daughter-in-law was on her side.
"Since we baked a cake yesterday, we won't do the same today," Violet said. "We must prevent
ourselves from making too much. We can't just leave it here and let it go to waste."
