They toldthat the bullet hit a very delicate part of her stomach and she lost a
lot of blood. They didn't tellanything else before rushing her to the emergency room. | knew that doctors
didn't make any promises to save a patient's life, because a patient might die at any moment, but | needed any
sort of assurance. They didn't providewith that, "Mr. Kensington, I'm detective Black and this is detective
Wilsons. We know that the timing isn't right, but we would like to ask you squestions about what happened
to Ms. Eddings. Detective Black was tall and his hair had a buzz cut "Sure," | nodded, getting up from my place.
"Can you please tell us what happened?" Detective Wilsons asked me. Her blonde hair was tied back in a tight
bun and she had a notepad in her hands.
"I was standing outside the restaurant with her. Everything seemed fine, then we heard gunshots. | tried to
protect her by covering her body withand getting her on the ground, but when the shooting stopped, |
looked at her and found blood on her clothes," | recounted "Did you manage to see who fired the gunshots?"
Detective Black asked me
"No." | shook my head. "My priority was to protect her." And | failed to do so. | promised her before that | would
protect her and | failed her
"Do you have any animosity with anyone?" he wondered. At first, | was going to say no because | didn't think
that anybody might be malicious and envious enough to try to kill Emily. But then | knew speople who were
evil enough to commit such an attorcious act. "Jeffrey Harolds and his family. He is her father, but they're not on
speaking terms," | said. | didn't know to which extent their hatred for her had reached. | knew that they hated
her, but would they really try to kill her.
"Is there anything else you'd like to add, Mr. Kensington? Detective Winstons asked me.
"1 would like to know as soon as you catch the perpetrator, please," | told them.

in my life because | missed my best friend so m the operating room alive, there would be nothing forto make
the pain go away or even sedate it. More tears fell down her cheeks and Sam pulled her towards him, gently
rubbing her arm.
| took my phone out of my pocket and texted Rosie's nanny, to make sure that my daughter was okay. | asked
her to tell her that we had something important to do and we couldn't get back home. | didn't want her to know

gone for a while. My mind had been preoccupied with Emily and the worry that filledabout her.

"When can | see her? | need to see her," | asked her. | just wanted to lay my eyes on her to make sure that she

All I wanted was to see her. | wanted to see her breathing to make sure that she was truly alive.
The doctor guidedto where Emily was and the moment | saw her, | smiled. She was unconscious, but she
wasn't as pale as she used to be and her lips were almost back to their normal colour.
"You scaredso much, sunshine," | whispered as | took a seat beside her on the chair placed to her right. "I
know how much you hate hospitals and I'm sorry that | can't stay the night with you, but | promise that | will be

in my life because God didn't let her die. "Sir. you

| nodded and stood up. "She hates hospitals and I'm not sure how she may react once she wakes up and finds
herself in a hospital bed, so please keep a close eye on her." | didn't want her to freak out and end up undoing
her stitches. "She's also a well- known fashion designer, photographers may try to sneak in to take pictures of
her. She wouldn't want her pictures taken and neither do I, to be honest."
"Don't worry. She is in good hands," the doctor assured me.
It tooka while to convince myself to leave her on her own, but | knew that I didn't have a
choice. | kept telling myself that | needed to get back to Rosie since she was alone. | wasn't going to completely
lie to her as | planned on telling her that Emily had fallen sick, but | was worried about how she might react. She
