'F*ck! This guy is persistent..' Axel cursed inwardly as he carefully hid his presence in the alley while waiting for the man on his trail to pass by. But, it seemed that the guy wasn't easy to deal with.
"His presence vanished.." The man muttered with a frown on his face. He was an experienced person, and hence he didn't fall for the clues that Axel had deliberately left indicating the place where he most probably had rushed off too.
"I know you are hiding somewhere around. You better come out, or it will be hell once you are caught…" He tried to threaten Axel and force him to reveal himself. But, Axel wasn't a fool.
'Let me see…how you are going to catch me..' Axel sneered inwardly. Even though the guy was smart, Axel still had confidence in his own ability. He was sure that he wouldn't be caught.
At this moment, the man frowned as his gaze shifted towards the terrace of one of the houses. He could see a shadow standing there in the dim light of the moon. It didn't seem to be the fellow from earlier, but his attire sure made him seem like the companion of the assassin from before.
Suddenly, the figure moved, and the man hesitated for a bit before giving chase. He couldn't seem to find Axel anyway, so it was better if he caught this guy. As long as he returned with something, he would be able to face the lady, if not, he didn't know how to face her.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt'Hmmn..' Axel obviously witnessed the entire thing, and a smile leaked out on his face. He noticed that it was Max. He knew that guy had somehow found a way to help him.
'I should get out, while I have the chance..' Axel waited for a few minutes, and after sensing there was no sign of that man, he slowly moved.
The next few days are going to be tough. He would have to stay low for a while now.
…
On the other side..
Max laughed internally seeing the chaos before his eyes. It was as he had expected, all heaven seemed to have broken loose with the assassination attempt on Travis. He was currently in the Hospital, and the others were along his side as well.
The guards from the Scarlet House were present all around, and the security was really too tight. Even hundreds of Axel wouldn't be able to get out alive from a place like this.
Travis had actually gained consciousness. You had to give it to the b*stard's tough skin, but thinking that he was a demon, Max felt it was a bit obvious. But, even though he had gained consciousness, it didn't seem to be a good thing for him.
His scream filled with agony could be heard all the way to the hallway. Max had no idea what kind of spell Axel had used to strike this b*stard, but it sure didn't seem like some random one.
Talia had yet to arrive at the scene. Max knew that she was one hell of a woman who could do anything for her objectives. But, even Max had to admit that she cared for her child as a mother.
And, as expected, it took a little while but Talia sure arrived at the hospital. Her face had a dark look on it as she passed through the hallway without even sparing any of them a look. Scarlet Lord was still missing on the scene, and it didn't seem that he was going to come, at least not any time soon.
"Mom!!" Travis' grief filled voice entered Max's ear, he could hear him crying to his mother. In the end, that was all that b*standard amounted to. He wasn't anything without his mother's halo. Max was doubtful if this guy was really Talia's son. After all, how could such a woman give birth to a wimp like him.
Max really wanted to leave. He was not interested in wasting his time here, but obviously he couldn't do that.
Later on, Travis's situation became a little clear to everyone. It seemed that he had almost died from the wound. It was only a few inches away from piercing his heart. Usually, Travis should have recovered within a few weeks, but from the looks of it, the assassin had used some special kind of poison that was very potent in slowing down the healing process as it corroded the mana which was supposed to help in a Mage's recovery.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmMax knew that it was no poison, but Axel's special anti magic. It was power that he could draw from those black formations of his. It not only nullified mana, but even the Demonic auras of the Demons. It sure was a powerful weapon.
A while later, Talia walked out of the room, and her eyes finally landed on Max and others.ᴛhis chapter is ᴜpdated by novelenglish.net . Fɪre.net
She knew that Travis had gone out with Preston and brought along Erina. But, she had no idea about Max and Synthia. Her eyes couldn't help, but turned a little cold towards Max. But, she slowly reasoned herself.
She knew that Travis hated Max, and he was injured like that in his presence. But, that didn't mean that Max was involved. He was under her control, and definitely couldn't do something like that.
"Can you tell me what happened there?" Tali asked as she looked at them. She should have already received all the information, but she still wanted to hear it from them.
'I hope she doesn't catch onto something..' Max felt his back drenched in sweat. She was too much of a devil. He was afraid that she might catch onto something.
As Talia heard everything, her face sure changed a bit when she heard that Max had knocked down the glass of wine which led to Travis leaving the table and getting attacked.
Max maintained a calm look as Talia shifted her gaze onto him. He could feel her using the blood connection to force the truth out of him. But, there was no way for it to work on Max, and hence, he easily lied through it.
'Thankfully, I have this Blood connection…if not..' Max knew that she was letting her guard down in front of him because of the fact that Max was in her control throughout the Demonic transformation, if not, he would have been caught long ago for sure.
