109 Love shield

As the soothing stream of warm water flowed down his long slender fingers, Zi Han kept mumbling under his breath. He might look innocent but he was cursing a thousand generations of the Yi family.

What was he mad about? Well, even he didn’t know. Being told to go wash his hands wasn’t something he should get upset over but he was like salmon going against the current and in this case the current was Yi Chen.

When he left the bathroom he didn’t even bother to dry his hands. Instead, he curled his fingers making sure to save some water droplets and with a mischievous smile, he opened the bathroom door.

“Shit,” muttered Yi Chen as the water was sprinkled all over his face by this childish human he so happens to be obsessed with.

Zi Han flicked his fingers with a sly grin on his face before he broke into a chuckle. Yi Chen wiped his face with a handkerchief while saying softly, “That’s childish.”

Zi Han didn’t care. He laughed unrestrainedly as he recalled that rare, never seen before, startled expression on Yi Chen’s face.

“Lighten up a little class president,” he said while walking down the hallway.

Yi Chen caught up with him feeling a little aggrieved. This morning it was Chen-ge but a few hours later they were back to class president. In as much as he wanted to drop the formal address, he couldn’t force Zi Han to call him like in the morning.

“So what thing were you saying I wouldn’t be interested in,” said Zi Han turning around to face him while walking backwards like he had eyes at the back of his head.

.....

Yi Chen held his shoulders and spun him around while saying, “Eyes forward,” before letting him go.

“It’s a get-together sort of thing and I was wondering if you would go with me?” said Yi Chen while tapping his light brain before sending the invitation.

Curious Zi Han tapped open his chat interface with Yi Chen and a luxurious-looking black and gold invitation with the italicized letters VIP on top popped up. “Wah... Is it a dance party or something?” asked Zi Han with a light chuckle as he glanced at Yi Chen.

This handsome boy from the slums had never even been to a fancy dress-up type of party. But his mother had diligently taught him strict etiquette followed by the top brass of the federation.

At that time he found it ridiculous that he had to learn that but after knowing his mother’s true identity he realized it was crucial he learnt all of this.

What he didn’t know was that his mother never meant to take him to these fancy parties. As mentioned before she raised him using the trainee handbook for Bloodgarde’s assassins. He was raised to be the perfect killing machine and he didn’t even realize that.

Yi Chen’s lips lightly quirked at the corner as he said, “No, it’s a_”

“The fuck, I don’t want to date anyone. Why would you want me to go with you? You can get a girlfriend on your own. Just don’t include me,” interjected Zi Han after reading carefully. His mother would skin him alive before he could even finish saying the word girlfriend.

Yi Chen gently held his arm stopping him from walking further and explained, “You misunderstand... I am but asking you to go with me to find someone. I am not asking you to come and act as some sort of love shield.”

“Huh??” exclaimed Zi Han not understanding his meaning. He understood the words love and shield separately but when put together it didn’t make any fuckin sense.

In the wide hallway, the sounds of footsteps bounced off the walls as a group of three cadets walked in their direction. Yi Chen glanced over in their direction before moving closer to Zi Han and speaking softly.

“I am being forced to go to this thing and I don’t want to meet anyone so... I need you to hang around me and act as a deterrent to unwanted advances,” explained Yi Chen pausing in between sentences when that group of students passed by.

Zi Han wasn’t stupid. He put two and two together. If it’s a blind date kind of event then him hanging around Yi Chen would deter potential suitors. That meant he would be acting like Yi Chen’s date chasing off potential love rivals.

“Well, I am not a girl so... oh fuck no. Nope, not doing it. You just made a huge fuss about me parading in a skirt but now you want me to wear one. There is a word for people like you. It’s.... uh, what’s that word again? Um..... uh,” murmured Zi Han unable to recall the right word.

Yi Chen watched him struggle for a second before helping him out. “A hypocrite.....”

“Yes that word, hypocrite,” said Zi Han with a happy smile having figured it out, “you just said I should stop wearing skirts.”

“I know I sound like a hypocrite. That’s why I said you wouldn’t be interested. It’s okay, no need to feel pressured... Even if you can’t do it I will still tutor you so don’t worry about it.”

After saying this Yi Chen reluctantly let him go and began to walk ahead. Trusting his negotiation skills he confidently walked away while silently counting in his heart.

‘Six, five..... four, three, two,’ he counted internally and before he could say one Zi Han stopped him.

“Can you guarantee that I can improve by that much in the next mech repair class?” asked Zi Han while rubbing his temple. Even he couldn’t believe he was caving in.

Yi Chen pursed his lips as he took a step back reducing the distance between him and Zi Han.

“I most definitely can,” replied Yi Chen in a sincere tone. He would do everything in his power to make sure Zi Han passes mech repair class with one of the highest grades.

Zi Han sighed deeply before saying, “But I have nothing suitable to wear. I only have that uniform and if I raid my mum’s closet she will know. Oh, and my hair is super short so I won’t easily pass as a girl like before.”

Yi Chen shook his head stopping him from worrying. “I will take care of everything. You just have to meet me at my mother’s boutique on Saturday,” he explained but Zi Han wasn’t at ease.

“Wait, wouldn’t your mother find out and we would both get into trouble?” asked Zi Han genuinely concerned about this. He didn’t want to get into trouble with someone else’s mother.

That’s because he was worried that if it reached his mother’s ears then she would pick a fight with Mrs. Yi which would further increase the rift between their two families.
