Chapter 61 Sloane's Crushing Defeat "Alexander, I'm doing this for your own good, I swear!" Sloane was almost in tears.
Mason's face darkened, and he quickly turned to Allison. "Ms. Bennett, I'm really sorry about my sister. She was just repeating srumors, she didn't mean any harm!" Allison glanced at Mason. This guy, the heir to the Grey family, definitely had more sense than his sister.
Without missing a beat, Allison extended her hand to Mason, who shook it instinctively. "I'm Allison, the new chairwoman of the Bennett Group!" Allison usually didn't care to flaunt her title, but sometimes she had to play the game. "Ms. Bennett is the chairwoman of the Bennett Group?" Mason was floored.
The guests around them started whispering. "I've heard about her. She threw disobedient board members in jail right after taking over and even got her dad to step down. This girl is no joke!" "She's so young and already the chairwoman? The Carter family sure knows how to pick 'em!" "Shh, keep it down. We don't want Mr. Carter to hear us. Better not mess with this girl." The chatter grew louder, and Sloane got even more pissed. How could an eighteen-year-old girl win Alexander's favor? No way Allison didn't use sshady tricks.

You're young and inexperienced, but if this gets investigated, it could embarrass the Wilson family too!" Allison found her accusations laughable. "Seriously, Ms. Grey? I said the money for the gift is my own. I haven't touched my family's allowance since elementary school. Spending tens of millions on a gift is no big deal for me." Sloane wanted to argue, but Mason cut her off. "Sloane, that's enough!" Today was Mia's birthday party, and Sloane had turned it into a circus. Mason felt too embarrassed to face Alexander.
He turned to Alexander. "Alexander, I'll take Sloane away now. She's not thinking straight. Please don't mind the trouble she caused! And happy birthday to Mia. This is a gift from my father." After handing the gift to Mia, Mason dragged Sloane away. Sloane looked back at Alexander, but he didn't even glance at her.
Allison stayed calm the whole time, while Liliana looked at her with approval. Such a young girl making waves, Alexander's judgment was spot on.
With Sloane gone, Mia pulled Allison over to the dessert table. Allison trusted Mia's taste completely.
Mia held onto Allison, saying, "Allison, the macarons here are amazing, and they even have ice cream flavors. Hurry up, or they'll melt!" Allison got dragged over, not that she minded. She hadn't gone all out with her outfit today, just a simple, low- key dress. Compared to Mia's over-the-top princess gown, Allison's look was understated but classy. Liliana seemed more and more impressed with Allison.
"Alexander, you've got good taste!" Liliana nodded at him. Getting her approval was no small feat. Alexander smiled, his eyes never leaving Allison. "When I fell for her, I didn't care about her background or status. Whether she's a chairwoman or a high school student, she's the one I like." Liliana was taken aback by how head over heels her brother was for Allison.
Mia hadn't invited any classmates to her party, except for Allison. But there were plenty of young people from prominent families. As the two girls reached the dessert table, someone approached them. "Mia, aren't you going to introduce your friend?" a woman with a sugary voice asked.
Mia just rolled her eyes. "Why should I? You're not my friend." Mia never sugarcoated things, especially with women who had that fake sweet tone.
The socialite's face soured. "Fine, suit yourself. What's there to be proud of? Just a girl from a regular family with no manners. I don't even want to know her!" Mia looked at her, unimpressed. "Aren't you from a regular family too? Who gave you that confidence? Or do you think your dad's position at the Carter Group is too high and want my uncle to demote him?" Willow Reed immediately shut up. She knew better than to mess with Mia and quickly left.

"I can't stand people who act all high and mighty! By the way, Allison, Willow is tight with Yasmin, so watch out for her." Allison nodded. Anyone who was friends with Yasmin wasn't worth her time.

As they were enjoying the desserts, a tall figure approached Mia. The man wore a gray suit, had a healthy tan, and sported gold-timed glasses. His refined demeanor and still-handsface, despite the years, left Allison stunned. The man spoke, his voice smooth. "Mia, your grandfather is waiting for you to cut the cake. Hurry up."
This was Mia's father, Victor Wilson. The Wilson family was into scientific research, not business. Victor was an e academician and a renowned medical expert, once even Allison's idol. She hadn't expected Victor to be Mia's dad. Life sure had its surprises. Mia beamed. "Dad, this is Allison, my best friend!" Allison bowed slightly. "Mr. Wilson, nice to meet you!"
Victor glanced at Allison. She was beautiful but not flashy, definitely a good girl. He nodded. "Being Mia's friend isn't easy. Thank you, Ms.
Bennett, for your patience!" His daughter was spoiled rotten by the Wilson family, especially Victor. Liliana had even joked that he loved their daughter more than her.
For sreason, looking at Victor made Allison's eyes well up. This was what a father should be like.
