Avery brought over the only blanket in the house and covered Cayden with it.
As she was retracting her hand after smoothing out the edges of the blanket, a large hand grasped her
wrist.
Avery looked up and met Cayden's deep-set gaze. It almost took her breath away.
Caught off guard, she lost her balance and fell to the floor.
Avery sat facing Cayden and held her breath instinctively. The man was staring at her with his burning
eyes. She gulped awkwardly and could feel her heart thumping wildly.
Cayden had an alluring set of double eyelids and prominent brow ridges that enhanced the
attractiveness of his perfectly-sculpted masculine features and made him seem even more steady and
mature.
On such a beautiful morning, it was almost impossible for any woman to be inches away from him. It
was impossible to look at his high nose bridge and kissable lips and not feel anything.
Avery was just an ordinary woman and not a saint.
She could feel herself almost losing her rationality and succumbing to her desires.
“Ms. Ery...” Rory walked out of her bedroom and headed straight into Avery's arms. The girl was
pouting and the gauze on her eye was almost falling off.
Hugging Rory, Avery composed herself a little before asking in a gentle voice, “What's wrong? Did you
not sleep well?”
“Can you and Daddy send me to school together? Please...”
That was Rory's dream ever since she was three.
Her friends always had such blissful looks on their faces when their mommy and daddy sent them to
school and picked them up together.
The girl was especially envious when she saw that.
Even though Zachary had never mentioned it explicitly, Rory knew that her brother felt the same.
Avery did not agree immediately. As there was always a crowd at the school entrance, the woman was
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtworried that she might invite trouble if she was seen sending the children to school.
Just then, Cayden sat up on the couch and looked toward Avery before saying meaningfully, “It has
always been Zach and Rory's dream to have a mother. In fact, they are less happy than the other kids
who have a complete family.”
What the man actually meant was that Zachary and Rory wanted to have a mother and not a “Ms. Ery.”
Even though Avery did not want to assume, Cayden had made his intentions pretty obvious.
Looking at the little girl in her arms, Avery nodded.
As Avery was not very interested in cooking, she had never spent too much effort in preparing meals.
However, she had been trying out new meal recipes when preparing breakfast for the children as she
did not want them to feel bored living with her.
That morning, she made sandwiches for the kids with bread that had been molded into the shape of the
face of a bear. She decorated them with a variety of ingredients, such as vegetables and sauces.
“Please don't cry. I'm eating you because you're my food and not a real baby bear...” Rory started
talking to her food while eating.
Cayden was seated at one side of the table as he had his breakfast quietly.
Even though the dining table had four sides, Avery, Zachary, and Rory were squeezed together at one
side, enjoying their delicious breakfast. The atmosphere surrounding the three of them was especially
cozy.
Cayden, on the other hand, sat in isolation with his breakfast consisting of just plain toast with jam and
a cup of warm milk.
One glance was enough to tell that Avery did not put in any effort to prepare the man's breakfast at all.
After taking his time to finish his breakfast, Cayden stood up and said, “Tonight shall be the last night
you two are staying here. You have to go back to the Moore residence with me tomorrow.”
Hearing that, Zachary and Rory stopped eating at once and looked up at their father. However, Cayden
had already turned around and walked away.
We're not going back!
Hmph!
Daddy is so mean!
Avery could guess what the siblings were thinking. She tousled their hair gently before standing up and
heading back to her bedroom to get dressed.
After changing her clothes, she opened the door and saw Cayden sitting on the couch while watching
the news on television.
However, Avery could tell that he wasn't really paying attention to the news and was watching just to
pass time.
Is his life really so boring?
Avery could not help but sympathize with the man.
Hmm, but it doesn't seem right to say that.
Strictly speaking, men who were proper and upright usually led boring lives. Their day consisted of just
work and home, and they usually stayed faithful to the one woman they loved.
On the other hand, there was another category of men who led colorful and interesting lives. It was
common for them to find themselves short of time to have fun, and they also fooled around with
different women.
Before heading out, Avery ironed one of Cayden's shirts, which had a crease on it.
While she was ironing, she could not help but examine the shirt for any traces that could possibly point
to the fact that the man had spent the previous night with another woman.
However, halfway through, Avery suddenly realized that it was a different shirt from the one Cayden
had worn before he left the house the night before.
That could only mean that he had changed before returning in the morning.
On the way to school, Avery did not say a single word and was lost in her thoughts. She did not even
hear it when Rory tried to talk to her.
After dropping Zachary and Rory off at school, Avery and Cayden headed to the office.
As usual, Avery got out of the car a distance away from the company.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAlthough Cayden felt that it was unnecessary for her to do that, he decided to let her do whatever she
wanted.
When Avery arrived at the design department, Yvonne was not there yet.
Yvonne only reached the office after ten o'clock. With a smile on her face, she said to her co-workers,
“Sorry, everyone. I'm late again. I slept really late last night. I was just so drained...”
One of the female employees teased, “Yvonne, your hubby must be really good in that area, huh?” She
knew that Yvonne loved to hear such comments and was hoping that the woman would be so pleased
that she would give her some of her unused luxury perfumes on a whim.
In fact, everyone was finding opportunities to flatter Yvonne, trying to take advantage of her.
“Jeez, stop that. Stop asking the obvious...” Yvonne replied coyly before standing up and heading to
the pantry to get herself a cup of coffee.
Nina texted Avery: Ery, were you together with Mr. Moore last night?
When Avery saw the message, she hesitated for a while. Even though she knew it was a lie, she still
replied: Yup. I was with him last night.
Just then, Cecelia stood up and left. On her way out, she bumped into Xavier at the entrance of the
office building. Feeling a sudden rush of anger, the woman told Xavier all about Yvonne's daily horny
antics.
“Is that true?” Xavier frowned upon hearing that.
“Of course! Why would I lie about that? Mr. Dartsley, if you don't believe me, you can check the
surveillance footage.” Cecelia spoke casually. She no longer observed any formalities during her
interaction with Xavier after she got to know him better.
As the assistant stared at Cecelia's departing figure, realization finally hit him. Did that woman just roll
her eyes at me?
He could barely believe what he had just seen, as Cecelia was usually serious and tended to keep a
straight face. Although Xavier had some work to complete, he could not concentrate. He could not stop
thinking about Yvonne's daily horny antics and how she had made up stories in front of Avery.
Xavier headed to the top floor, intending to report the matter to his boss.
