Rory immediately looked at Avery pitifully as tears began to form in her eyes. “Is that so... Ms. Ery?”
In response, Avery lowered her head and kissed Rory's forehead. She caressed Rory's soft hair gently
before reassuring her, “No. I will never think that you are annoying.”
Her promise satisfied Rory while Xavier was noticeably stunned upon hearing her words.
Xavier had always prided himself on being rich in experience. After all these years of working with
Cayden, he met many rich men and people from different walks of life. Besides that, he only watched
movies and dramas in which experienced actors and actresses acted. That was why he could
determine whether a person was lying or telling the truth from their words. Yet, now Xavier couldn't
detect any hint of fakeness in what Avery had just said.
Unable to resist it, Xavier glanced at Avery through the rearview mirror. A fleeting thought hit him. It is
almost as if Avery is the kids' mom!
Jeffrey's heart was racing when he woke up without seeing Zachary, Rory, and Cayden in the hospital
at Ackleton.
Allie arrived during her free time. She suggested, “Dad, why don't you call Cayden to ask him?”
“What is there to ask?” Jeffrey responded calmly while having his breakfast.
The caregiver feeding Jeffrey his food didn't dare to raise her head nor speak as she knew that the
family before her was influential and famous.
“Dad, do you know how ridiculous these youngsters are when handling matters? I've underestimated
what Ary is capable of. I'm pretty sure Cayden went to the small town searching for her!” Allie was sure
about her assumption. Even though she didn't know her son well, she knew how Ary's mind worked.

Although Jeffrey didn't like how Allie spoke, he knew what she was worried about. A man and a woman
could make a big mistake when they couldn't control themselves.
“Hand me my phone. Call Cayden's office first,” Jeffrey instructed Allie.
Allie had actually called earlier. However, no one picked up her call. In the end, her call reached the
secretary.
Then, Allie called Cayden's office again in front of Jeffrey as she put the phone on loudspeaker mode.
Yet again, no one picked up.
There was no answer even after Allie called multiple times.
Jeffrey furrowed his white brows as he stared at the phone. “Call Cayden's phone!”
Allie didn't want to call Cayden because she knew he would hang up after entertaining her half-
heartedly even if he picked up.
However, things would be different if Jeffrey was the one to make the call. Cayden wouldn't dare to
defy Jeffrey, who was ill and lying in a hospital bed.
Someone picked up Allie's call quickly. It was Xavier. “Hello, Ms. Musk.”
“Xavier? It's me, Cayden's grandpa,” Jeffrey shouted into the phone.
Xavier's tone turned respectful immediately. “Old Mr. Moore, how can I help you?”
“Where did Jeffrey go? Why did you pick up his call?” Jeffrey suspected that Cayden had disobeyed
him while doing something unimportant.
“Oh. It's like this, Old Mr. Moore. There is an ongoing project in the small town. We rushed here early in
the morning with a few other leaders from the city. We've been so busy since morning that we don't
even have the time to drink water,” Xavier explained. Afraid that Jeffrey wouldn't believe his words,
Xavier continued, “Old Mr. Moore, it's been years since you traveled, right? Here's what. Why don't I
take a video for you? You can enjoy the scenery here while giving us some precious suggestions on
the development plan. Mr. Moore has been going on and on about getting your opinion anyway!”
“Well, take the video then.” Jeffrey wasn't really interested in the scenery. He merely wanted to see
what Cayden was up to. Besides, he felt proud and satisfied because Cayden wanted his opinion.
With that, Xavier took a video of the scenery surrounding the river. Mountains, streams, and trees filled
the area, making it different from the view one would see in a city with air pollution.
Xavier remarked in the video, “Old Mr. Moore, you saw that mountain behind us? That mountain
produces a bountiful amount of fungi every year. I'll bring some home for you when we head back. The
fungi of this season are the best and comparable to those produced in Yorksland.”
In the meantime, Jeffrey received the video that Xavier had taken. In the video, Cayden was standing
beside a few of the leaders from the city by the river at the foothill. It seemed like he was indeed talking
to them about some issues by pointing at a mountain a distance away with a stern face. Also, the video
showed almost no signs of other office staff.
Jeffrey finally relaxed. He had seen those leaders from the city on the news and he also dined with
them. Hence, he knew Cayden was working on something serious.
The small town's development will require those leaders from the city to visit the place as often as
possible. As the boss of the Trident group, Cayden has to accompany them on those trips to survey the
topography of the land. After that, they will definitely have lunch together, while Cayden probably has a
lot of work to do in the afternoon. I'm sure he will be pretty occupied until nighttime. If so, he wouldn't

have the time to date and flirt!
Jeffrey returned the phone to Allie as he advised, “You shouldn't always doubt your son's actions every
time! Cayden will definitely make sure he won't embarrass himself with so many people around.”
Allie took the phone with her hands trembling with fury.
...
In the small town before the river, Cayden explained the changes that would happen in the area after
the development to those leaders around him.
Meanwhile, Avery was holding her laptop in one hand while holding Rory in another. At the same time,
she had to take care of Zachary who was playing by the river excitedly.
As the water flowed really fast, it would be life-threatening if Zachary fell into it.
“Ms. Ery, there's a fish in the river!” Zachary shook off his shoes happily, wanting to rush into the river.
Avery and the two kids had their backs facing Cayden, so they didn't see Cayden who was dressed in
suits walking over with the rest of the leaders in tow.
“No. You can't catch the fish. Zach... come back here now!” Avery had no choice but to put down Rory
and her laptop on the pebbles as she tried to carry the boy back to safety.
The pebbles in the river were in odd sizes, causing Avery to nearly slip when she picked up Zachary...
Little did she expect someone to hold her steady from behind her.
Avery held onto Zachary who was still wriggling as the fish he spotted swam away.
She turned her head around. That was when she saw Cayden, who had suddenly appeared. His
dominating and strong manly aura encapsulated her all at once.
His face turned dark as he stared at Zachary for the earlier incident. When Zachary turned around and
saw the look in Cayden's eyes, he was frightened. Even though he wanted to own up to his mistake, he
couldn't find the voice to do so.
Cayden put his hand on Avery's waist as he leaned into her ear. “Are you all right?”
