Breakfast was a serious affair in the Moore family, and Jeffrey regarded it with great importance.
He had set a rule that no matter how busy everyone was or if there were any conflicts between family members,
the family had to have breakfast together on the fifteenth of every month.
As that day was the fifteenth, it was the day when everyone in the Moore family gathered for breakfast.
However, that day was different from the usual breakfast gatherings as Cayden had announced to everyone that
he had brought his future wife home.
That was equivalent to making his relationship with Avery, which his family saw no future of, official.
Just like how it was like during festive celebrations, the Moore family's dining table was decorated exquisitely with
dozens of dishes of sumptuous food elegantly presented on beautiful serving trays.
Every dish looked appealing and delectable. As it was breakfast, healthy ingredients were used to ensure that the
food was nutritious and easy on the palate.
Jeffrey was seated at the head of the table, looking austere and dignified.
Despite his old age, he still had a grand and mighty aura.
Although he looked stern and cold, there was a hint of benevolence in his eyes.
To the right of Jeffrey were Lily and Kendrick, while Allie and Cayden sat on the elder's left.
Lily and Allie were both dressed up in branded clothes, which were the latest arrivals of the new season. They were
also decked out in lavish jewelries from head to toe in an exaggerated manner.
Meanwhile, Cayden was sitting at his side of the table with a calm expression on his handsome face. Even though
he wasn't speaking, he had an imposing aura, and his presence alone exuded charisma.
The man seemed to be deep in thought as he fixed his gaze on the stairs.
Kendrick was his usual nonchalant and carefree self. He had a similar face shape as Cayden and was also
exceptionally good-looking. Clearly, both men had inherited the Moore family's superior genes.
However, Kendrick carried a roguish air. At one glance, one could easily tell that he was a playboy.
After all the dishes were served, the dining hall descended into pin-drop silence.
Finally, Allie could no longer tolerate the strange atmosphere and started complaining to Cayden, “Cayden, what's
wrong with Avery? How can she let everyone wait for her? It's so disrespectful of her to make her elders wait. I've
already told you that a woman from an ordinary family wouldn't know her manners well!”

“I'm surprised you even said that. Why don't you take a look at yourself? Indeed, the daughter-in-law is just like her
mother-in-law,” Lily scorned.
“Lily, are you mocking me—” Allie was breathless with anger.
“That's enough! It's still early in the morning. Let me have some peace,” Jeffrey interrupted with a frown, a hint of
impatience flashed across his wrinkled eyes.
Even though he had not raised his voice, it was enough to send a shiver down one's spine. Immediately, the two
women stopped arguing and kept quiet.
Jeffrey's two daughter-in-laws had been at loggerheads ever since more than twenty years ago. When Bruce was
still around, he was still able to keep the two women under control. However, ever since he was gone, Lily and Allie
had been arguing without restraint. Sometimes, they would even lash out at each other in front of Jeffrey, which
annoyed the old man greatly.
He had asked the two women to consider remarrying, but both women were unwilling to do so. They claimed that
they could not bear to leave the Moore family due to sentimental reasons and their loyalty to Bruce. However,
Jeffrey knew very well what they were truly after.
If Lily stayed in the Moore family, she would be able to have some of Trident Group's shares. On the other hand, if
she remarried, the situation would be different.
If that happened, she would have to return her shares. Besides, given Kendrick's noncompetitive nature and the
fact that he was not cut out for business, Trident Group would eventually come under Allie's son's control. How
could she let that happen?
As such, Lily would rather remain a widow for the rest of her life than let Allie get her way!
Meanwhile, Allie's thinking was even simpler. She knew that Cayden hated her. Although her son was the current
CEO of Trident Group, he would stop supporting her once she married into another family as it wouldn't make sense
for a completely unrelated family to enjoy Trident Group's assets.
Naturally, the woman wouldn't be able to continue enjoying her current luxurious lifestyle without the Moore
family's resources.
The fact that she had successfully become Mrs. Moore showed that she was a smart woman. As such, Allie knew
very well what was the best choice for her.
Jeffrey swept his stern gaze across the dining table before he looked at Cayden and said, “Cayden, go get Avery
here for breakfast.”
“OK, Grandpa,” Cayden replied, standing up.
Just as he was about to head up, he saw Avery walking downstairs hand in hand with the two little ones.
Avery was feeling extremely motivated with her twins by her side.
Even though the Moore residence was not the most welcoming place and had people with ill intentions all around,
she was not afraid.
Avery descended from the vintage spiral stairs, looking polite and slightly fearful at the same time.
Although she appeared calm, she looked rather stiff while standing upright. She had also tightened her grip on her
kids' hands.
The woman did not expect everyone else to be waiting for her.
Kendrick was the only one who greeted her with a smile while the others looked at her with various complicated
expressions on their faces. The atmosphere in the air was eerily tense.
Cayden led Avery to the seat next to him and gestured for her to sit down.
After the two little ones greeted Jeffrey sweetly, they settled down next to their mother.
“Good morning, Old Mr. Moore,” Avery greeted the old man respectfully with an awkward smile on her face. She
was feeling so nervous that her palms were sweating.
However, Jeffrey merely let out a cold snort and looked the other way, completely ignoring the woman.
Avery felt even more awkward after getting such a response from Jeffrey as he used to be extremely fond of her.
Feeling helpless, Avery turned toward Lily and greeted softly, “Mdm. Lily.”
Lily remained expressionless as she shot a contemptuous glance at Avery without replying.
Just then, Kendrick let out a hearty laugh, easing the awkward tension in the air. “Avery, since it's not our first time
meeting each other, I won't bother doing a self-introduction... I'm really surprised that Cayden has a girlfriend now.
He used to be very sure about staying single. Seems like I have to buck up! Hehe.”
Avery smiled, feeling glad that Kendrick had accepted her so readily.
When her gaze flitted toward Allie, she could clearly see the woman's disdain and disgust for her and felt her heart
clenching in her chest. She opened her mouth but could not bring herself to greet Allie.
Avery would never forget how Allie had humiliated her. It was also impossible for her to pretend that nothing had
happened between the two of them. The greatest tragedy was that that woman was the mother of the man she
loved...
“OK, Grandpa,” Cayden replied, standing up.
