"Oh." Dorothy held the pen, signing the contract, "August... 25th... Done, this can go to the project team—"
She halted mid-sentence.
The secretary reached out, "To the project team, anything else you need?"
"Today's, August 25th?"
"Yes, Ms. Sanchez."
Dorothy's eyes darted around, looking at the secretary, "Are you sure, about tonight's gala, Everett said he'de?"
The secretary nodded solemnly, "Yes, we got confirmation from the Lopez Corporation."
"Alright then, carry on," Dorothy dismissed her.
Once the door closed, Dorothy rolled her eyes and grabbed her phone to send Everett a reminder about today on WhatsApp.
She wasn't one for anniversaries or formalities but...
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAugust 25th, and Everett hadn't even mentioned it first thing in the morning!
He must've otten.
Could thepany's workload really make him et such an important date?
Yet, as her fingers scrolled to Everett's Whatcontact, Dorothy reconsidered and didn't message him.
Managing her small startup, Trust-E, kept her swamped daily. Everett, on the other hand, had the entire Lopez Corporation to
oversee. It was understandable if he ot such a date amidst his busy schedule.
"Sigh, alright! I'll prepare a gift then."
Dorothy stood up, checking her schedule. There was still stbefore the gala.
She smirked, grabbing her long-unused car keys from the drawer, and took the elevator down to thepany's underground
garage.
It was an anniversary after all. otten or not, a gift was due.
Dorothy went straight to the mall and bought Everett a sleek, ink-black tie.
She planned to surprise him with it at the gala.
Back at Trust-E, Dorothy was taken aback upon entering her office!
Not only were three makeup artists waiting for her, but there was also a huge red box, glaringly conspicuous.
"What's... what's this for?"
"Mr. Lopez arranged for them to help you get ready. He said tonight's gala is of utmost importance, and you must attend in full
regalia."
Dorothy, looking at the lineup of makeup artists, couldn't help but laugh.
"One would have been enough, don't you think?"
"Mr. Lopez's orders."
"Why do | feel you're not my secretary but Everett's?"
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmThe secretary chuckled, "Ms. Sanchez, let's get started! Your gown needs ssteaming."
"Gown?" Dorothy pointed at the box, "You don’t mean that?"
"Yes, that one."
"What kind of dress needs a box like that!"
It was absurdly extravagant.
"You'll see soon enough."
The secretary then called two people to carry the box away.
As the makeup artists ushered Dorothy to a chair, she finally sent Everett a Whatmessage.
[What's this gala that's so important? Mr. Lopez gracing it with his presence is already a big deal, and now a full regalia?]
It wasn't long before Everett replied.
[It's indeed very important.]
Before Dorothy could finish her next message, he sent another.
[Dorothy, I'lle to pick you up.]
