Chapter 2241

Kael slumped against the wall, his gaze lingering on the woman who stood before him,

exuding an eerie calm. Diana, with her cool demeanor, seemed impervious to the gravity

of what she’d done.

Had she no remorse for taking a life?

His own body had betrayed him at the sight of her actions; he’d been reduced to a

quivering mess, barely able to keep his limbs in check. Consequently, he stumbled in the

water for a moment, nearly choking, until his companion gave him a helping hand.

Diana, however, was untroubled by such weaknesses.

The realization sent a shiver down Kael’s spine.

In the reflection of the mirror, Diana caught his gaze and snapped, “What’s eating you,

Kael? Don’t tell me a little bath gave you a cold, or did that dame we dealt with scare the

daylights out of you?”

He wanted to believe she was concerned about him.

Moving closer, Kael wrapped his arms around her. Despite the irritation on her face, he

nuzzled affectionately against her

“I’ll never betray you,” he whispered fervently.

A pleased smile spread across Diana’s lips. “That’s more like it. Now, go get cleaned up,

and don’t

you catch a cold. I’d be mighty upset if you fell ill.”

After she left, Thalia could feel eyes boring into her back, yet she dared not look behind.

The image of the large, damp footprint in Diana’s room haunted her. That massive print

couldn’t possibly belong to Diana; she wasn’t that tall.

The footprint was more akin to a boat – unmistakably that of a man.

What was Diana hiding? Claiming she had just taken a bath to account for the wet mark

was too convenient.

Thalia rolled her eyes, wondering if Diana believed she was that gullible. Or perhaps Diana

didn’t care if she saw through her ruse, merely offering a forced justification for her to

reluctantly accept.

A chill crawled up Thalia’s spine as she remembered Diana’s unsettling gaze, smiling with

her lips but her eyes devoid of any mirth.

“Jeez, I should stop thinking about it. I’m just a small fry…”

With these worries clouding her mind, Thalia relayed the message to Colton, who

responded without a flicker of emotion, merely waving his hand in acknowledgment, “Got

it.”

Despite telling herself to let it go, Thalia couldn’t shake off the thoughts when alone, until

Margot startled her with a tap on the shoulder.

“Ah!”

Her shriek made Margot jump as well. “What’s the matter with you? You’ve been zoning

out. I’ve been trying to get your attention from across the room; I thought you saw me.”

Margot felt a pang of guilt. Had she known Thalia hadn’t noticed her, she wouldn’t have

crept up on her.

Shaking her head, Thalia looked drained. “Oh, it’s nothing. Just pondering what kind of job

to look for next. This industry ain’t for the faint-hearted.”

Margot chuckled, “Why the sudden change of heart? Weren’t you all gung-ho about

becoming a top-notch agent?”

Before diving into the entertainment world, Thalia had aspired to be a star àgent,

envisioning herself turning every client into gold. But the barriers to entry were high, so

she started at the bottom, figuring that being on the industry’s periphery was a step

inside the circle.

Yet, the reality was more twisted than she’d imagined. Secrets lurked everywhere, and the

atmosphere was thick with insincerity. Those she believed to be friends turned out to be

foes, and those who seemed at each other’s throats were lovers in disguise.

The industry was a veritable wonderland of the bizarre.
