74 His end was near

Neera walked to where he was standing and stopped in front of him; stretching he hand towards him, she said;

“I brought the ointment you asked for;”

Zavian’s eyes looked at the bottle in her hand and he took it from her; “Come and sit;” he patted on the space beside him and Neera sat down, her eyes stared at her palm as Zavian opened the small bottle.

Taking out some of the contents, he pushed her hair to the side and tilted her jaw so she would look at him.

Neera looked into his eyes and her gaze fluttered. She did not like how he stared at her. He was looking at her with so many emotions as if he cared about her, when only what he cared about was the illusion of his wife he saw in her.

But even when she knew this, she could not stop her heart from beating so fast as she sat close to him. Oh, how stupid she was!

She was walking right into a grave and yet she could not save herself.

Zavian patted her face softly with the ointment, making sure he was not being too hard, so as not to hurt her.

“This would help it heal fast.” He said, looking into her eyes. His eyes lowered to her lips where she was bruised and he touched them. Taking out some ointment, he applied it to it.

.....

Suddenly, as though he felt something, he frowned;

“Your heart is beating fast, are you okay?”

Zavian asked innocently, and Neera’s eyes widened in shock and she quickly looked away from him. Her face reddened the more, if that was possible, and she cleared her throat;

“Yes, I’m fine.” She said, cursing under her breath.

Neera wished the grounds would open and just swallow her whole. She had forgotten that the demons had an incredibly heightened sense. She shut her eyes, cussing under her breath. Wasn’t it enough that she was drawn to him against her will, did he have to hear her heartbeat too?

It took Zavian a few seconds before he realized why her heart was beating so fast, and a small smile stretched his lips. She was nervous around him, he stared at the girl who wanted to disappear into thin air and he smiled;

“Lunch is set, let’s go and eat.”

He said and stood up, easing his smile. He did not want to make her more embarrassed than she already was.

...

A young boy in his twenties took off the cape that covered his head and alighted from his horse. He walked towards a tall magnificent house on the outskirts of the city, and when the guards by the gates saw him, they opened the gates and let him in.

Lydia sat on a couch as a maid washed her feet and applied a lotion to them. The boy walked to where shewas and knelt in front of her;

”I have returned my queen.” He spoke, bowing his head.

“Did you do it?” She asked and he nodded,

“Yes, my queen.” Taking out a tied charm from the sack he was carrying, he gave it to her.

Lydia smiled and took the charm from the boy,

“Send words to Trynav, tell them that it is done.” She spoke with a smile as she stood up and walked into her room with the charm.

Placing it into a box, she pushed it under her bed. Finally, the time had come.

The end of Zavian was near. She walked to the mirror and brushed her hands through the curls of her red hair, as her thoughts went back to centuries ago.

Zavian had a twin but he had eaten his brother in the womb, and not only that, he had come out of her from his legs.

Giving birth to him was the most excruciating thing she had ever gone through in her life, and as if that was not enough, he had come out holding the remains of his brother in his hand.

She hated him from the moment he was born. He was evil and she should never have given birth to him, but his father, Aloysius did not want him dead.

He saw him as a great warrior who would command his army. But what did that result?

Taking over his kingdom and casting him to the underworld. Lydia sighed; she missed her son, Uriel. She missed her husband.

It has been over five hundred years and Zavian had no thoughts of letting them go.

But now, his end would come. That girl would cause his doom. She just had to sit and watch everything unfold.

...

Princess Lyra looked around for her bonnet but she could not find it.

“Where did these girls keep my bonnet?” She shouted as she lifted her bedsheets, and turned the drawers. It was night and the girls had retired to bed. Heaving a sigh, she walked out the door and went to their room.

Without knocking, she pushed open the door. “Where did you girls keep my bonnet?”

She asked with an angry frown on her forehead and her hands on her waists. The girls stood up immediately they heard her voice;

“It’s right beside your bed, your highness.” Pen spoke and Lyra turned and glared at her;

“So you are saying that I am blind?” She asked, and Pen quickly stood up from the bed;

“No, your highness, I’ll go look for it.”

She made to walk to the door, but a knock stopped her. Their eyes turned to it and Pen went to the door and opened it; and outside stood a servant with a box.

The instant Pen saw the box she froze. She opened her mouth to speak but Lyra who noticed the box beat her to it;

“Who is that for?”

The boy opened his lips, but at that instant, he forgot who the Commander had asked him to bring the gift to. Looking around the room, he saw the Princess, who stood out from the rest, and thought it was her the Commander was referring to.

“The Commander asked me to bring this to you.”

At his words, Pen froze.

Lyra was surprised, “Bring it here.” She said and waved the servant over. Lyra took the box from him and opened it. Inside was a bouquet of fresh roses.

Lyra was stunned as she took it out and chuckled; “What is this?” She brought it to her nose and inhaled, then her eyes fell to the smaller box.
