How could an iron token and a law book, both worthless items, now command a price of 50 million Upper Spiritual Stones?

These items were worth one Upper Spiritual Stone at best!

Su Mo had thought that this city governor was rather kind since he had personally handed him his identification badge. He had not expected the city governor to extort him!

"Governor Bai, is 50 million Upper Spiritual Stones some kind of joke to you?" Su Mo asked coldly.

"Is the price too high?" Governor Bai said with a laugh.

"I've never been an unreasonable man and each outsider has paid the same amount to enter the city. If you find the price too high, you're welcome to leave!"

Su Mo felt a little uneasy, not truly believing that the city governor would be so kind as to let him leave just like that.

Sensing his uneasiness, Governor Bai replied, " I will not stop you, I'll leave you with a warning. Without an identification badge, you will find it hard to get around Great Martial City, not to mention Divine Martial Country!"

Although his words were friendly, the threatening undertone was clear as day.

He was telling Su Mo that if he refused to purchase the identification badge, he would not be able to survive in Great Martial City.

Su Mo did not fall for it since he was extremely powerful and feared no one.

"I'm sorry, but I don't have Spiritual Stones on me. Goodbye!" Su Mo then strode out of the Mansion of the City Governor.

He would find it hard to get around with an identification badge?

Abide by the laws of Divine Martial Country?

Su Mo scoffed. He did not plan to be here for long so why should he purchase an identification badge?

No one in the entire Great Martial City would be able to stop him!

Governor Bai's lips curled into a small smile as he watched Su Mo leave. He knew that Su Mo would come back, and this time, he would definitely hand over the required Spiritual Stones.

Spiritual Stones were extremely rare in Divine Martial Country, let alone Upper Spiritual Stones.

Some of the outsiders were extremely wealthy and Governor Bai always managed to extort a large amount of Spiritual Stones from them.

Governor Bai had only asked for 50 million Upper Spiritual Stones because he had noticed that Su Mo was only of Lv 9 True Darkness Realm cultivation and thought that he might not be that wealthy. If Su Mo was of Martial King Realm cultivation, he would have asked for 100 Upper Spiritual Stones.

After all, the higher the cultivation level of a martial artist, the wealthier he would be.

Governor Bai thought that 50 million Upper Spiritual Stones was a heavenly sum.

The entire Mansion of the City Governor would take many years to earn that amount of Spiritual Stones.

He would never have thought that 50 million Upper Spiritual Stones were a paltry sum to Su Mo.

However, Su Mo would not let anyone extort even one Spiritual Stone from him.

Governor Bai had the strength and status to rob Su Mo, but the laws of Divine Martial Country strictly prohibited their citizens from robbing outsiders.

The Divine Martial Emperor had personally proclaimed this law, so even Governor Bai himself did not dare to break it.

Therefore, he could only resort to extortion if he wanted Spiritual Stones.

Su Mo soon walked out of the Mansion of the City Governor.

As he walked along the streets out the mansion, he decided to settle down in a tavern.

He needed to first heal himself, then merge his remaining Spiritual Spirals together. Thereafter, he could then attempt to advance to the Martial King Realm.

A while later, Su Mo found a luxurious inn.

"Shopkeeper, please give me a suite!" Su Mo said to the shopkeeper as he entered the inn.

"Please produce your identification badge!" said the shopkeeper, a chubby old man, with a smile.

Su Mo frowned. Did he need an identification badge to stay in an inn?

"Do I need an identification badge to stay here?" Su Mo asked solemnly.

"Of course! The law explicitly states that anyone who stays in an inn must have his identity verified!" the shopkeeper said.

Su Mo sighed, then walked out of the inn.

"Damn!"

He even needed to produce identification to stay in an inn. The laws of Divine Martial Country were much too strict!

Su Mo did not wish to create a fuss. He just wanted to find a place to cultivate quietly since he did not have much time left.

Su Mo then tried to leave Great Martial City. He was certain that he would still be able to move freely outside this country.

He was incensed when he came to the city gates to find himself stopped yet again.

Damn, he even needed to produce an identification badge to leave this city!

A guard stood in his way and warned him sternly "You are strictly forbidden to leave this city without an identification badge!"

"Move!" Su Mo said coldly. He had lost his patience with this place.

"Are you going to break the law by forcing your way out of the city?" the battalion of guards drew their long sabers and surrounded Su Mo.

This commotion attracted stares from the martial artists nearby.

"Isn't this the outsider?" said someone in the crowd, immediately recognizing Su Mo.

"Wow, this man must be really rebellious. He had only just come and is already breaking the law!"

"I knew he won't be able to last long!"

Many martial artists, including those guards stationed along the towers of the city gate, murmured excitedly amongst themselves.

Almost all the outsiders that had found their way to Divine Martial Country would eventually be sentenced to death for flouting their laws.

Only a small minority could abide by the laws of this country.

"Do you have a death wish?" Su Mo was incensed. His palm was filled with Dark Force, ready to smack all these guards away at any moment.

The earth beneath him suddenly shook and a bestial roar rang out from behind.

Roar!

The beast let out an ear-splitting roar and its powerful aura could be felt from all directions.

Su Mo turned to see a unicorn that was at least 9 meters tall charging toward him.

The unicorn's body was entirely covered in black scale armor and looked extremely savage. The horn on its forehead was 3 meters long, giving it a menacing look.

A young woman of about twenty sat on its back.

She was about 20 years old and extremely pretty with well-defined features and her hair was swept up into a high ponytail. She was dressed in a purplish red tight leather suit, which showed off her thin waist and full breasts.

Although she was a woman, her aura was rather unique as it gave off the gallantry and pluckiness normally associated with men .

Her cultivation was pretty high too, at Lv 1 Martial King Realm.

Eight guards trailed behind the unicorn, all of True Darkness Realm cultivation. Together, they all looked very imposing.

"Jiao'er, stop!" the woman cried out when the unicorn was within 330 meters of Su Mo. The unicorn immediately halted.

"Greetings, young mistress!"

"Greetings, young mistress!"

The guards guarding the city quickly bowed in unison.

"Young mistress?"

Su Mo soon figured out that this woman was the daughter of Governor Bai.

She sat high atop the unicorn's back and ignored the guards as she stared straight at Su Mo.

"Are you the outsider?" she asked haughtily after sizing Su Mo up.

Su Mo's expression remained cold. He did not answer her question for he knew she could only be here to cause trouble.
