Chapter 185 Am I Dying
Josephine was trapped in the mansion for two days, during which Lewis was nowhere to be
seen.
The rain continued for two days, and it didn’t seem like it was ending anytime soon.
When Lewis returned at night on the weekend, Josephine was still curled up in her original
position.
His eyes flickered as he strode toward Josephine and helped her up. “Josephine?”
Josephine lay in his arms, barely breathing. Her eyelids fluttered but remained shut.
Lewis had a sudden realization and immediately phoned Dr. Halliday.
Dr. Halliday braved the rain to come here. Because of the pouring rain, the ends of his trousers were
dripping wet. “Mr. Alvarez, what happened to the madam?”
“Take a look at her!”
Startled by his tone, Dr. Halliday quickly put down his bag and did a checkup.
He spotted her bandaged fingers out the corners of his eyes and blurted out a question, “Her
hand…
Lewis said nothing, but his domineering gaze fell on the doctor’s face. Dr. Halliday lost the courage to
look up and silently continued the checkup.
After several moments, Dr. Halliday wiped the sweat on his brows and said, “Madam has fainted from
starvation, Mr. Alvarez. She should be alright after some liquid food intake.”
That was all he managed. He dared not say a word more. He was worried Lewis would throw
a fit and take him out.
Lewis’ veins bulged. “Silly woman!”
She hadn’t taken any food for as long as he was out.
Then, he cast another glance at Dr. Halliday. “Can you cook?”
Dr. Halliday paused and immediately nodded, “I … I can. Shall I make some food?”
“Make haste!”
Dr. Halliday scuttled to the kitchen as Lewis carried Josephine upstairs.
Dr. Halliday came with two bags of glucose solution and set up the infusion for Josephine before

Lewis took the bowl and spoon from Dr. Halliday. After gently blowing on a spoonful, he fed it to
Josephine.
However, whatever he fed her flowed out the corner of her mouth. She swallowed nothing.
Dr. Halliday stifled his breath beside Lewis. The doctor observed Josephine’s complexion- ashen-
faced, without a hint of color on her cracked lips.
She looked fragile.
A mere half a month had passed since he last saw her, and she had lost so much weight.
He couldn’t help but sigh.
Lewis probably heard him. He suddenly let go, and the spoon fell into the bowl with a clink, scaring Dr.
Halliday out of his wits.
“M-Mr. Alvarez?”
Lewis drew a tissue to wipe the droplets off the corner of Josephine’s mouth. “Why is she not drinking?”
Dr. Halliday immediately answered, “She may have yet to regain her senses. Why don’t you feed her
when she’s awake? She’s on infusion now. The glucose solution is sufficient to replenish her body of
the liquid she lacks.”
Lewis’ stare lingered on the woman on the bed before he passed the bowl back to Dr. Halliday.
Dr. Halliday received the bowl and was about to leave when Lewis stopped him. “Hold up.”
“W-What is it?”
Lewis suddenly turned and fixed his gaze on Dr. Halliday as if trying to read his mind. Cold sweat broke
out over Dr. Halliday’s forehead.
Lewis looked like he had something to say. His lips twitched, but the only words he said were, ” It’s
nothing. You may leave.”
Dr. Halliday was greatly relieved. He bowed and scraped on his way out.
Josephine was still unconscious after finishing both bags of glucose solution.
Lewis’ phone rang. As he answered it, he walked out and met Dr. Halliday. He instructed, Look after
her.”
Dr. Halliday nodded in agreement.
Lightning streaked the sky. The flashing lights shone upon Josephine’s face, malding it appear paler
than it actually was.
If the lights in the room weren’t turned on, her appearance was enough to scare the hell out of anyone
who came in-as of now, she greatly resembled a corpse.

Dr. Halliday stood before the bed, watching over her. After approximately two hours, Josephine slowly
woke up.
She stared at the white ceiling, looking perplexed.
“Madam, are you awake?”
Josephine’s eyelashes fluttered as she looked toward Dr. Halliday.
“Madam, do you remember me? I’m Dr. Halliday.”
Josephine looked at him weakly. Her stare was pretty frightening. Dr. Halliday swallowed anxiously and
pointed at himself. “Have you forgotten about me?”
Josephine still said nothing.
Dr. Halliday sighed and muttered, “Is it that severe already?” Knitting his brows, he continued, “It
shouldn’t be; it shouldn’t have progressed so quickly. Did you miss out on the medications I gave you?”
Dr. Halliday rambled on.
Josephine suddenly started signing, “I remember.”
Too bad-Dr. Halliday couldn’t read her signs.
Josephine saw the confusion in his eyes and realized that. She nodded.
Dr. Halliday saw her nod and heaved a sigh of relief. “You remember me, don’t you?”
Josephine nodded again.
“That’s great. Have you been taking the medications as prescribed?”
Josephine’s eyelashes fluttered. She lowered her gaze, her lashes throwing a ring of shadow on her
bottom eyelids.

Dr. Halliday sighed and advised, concerned, “Madam, you must take it on time. If you don’t, your
illness” He didn’t want to sound too pessimistic, so he changed his phrasing, “If you take the
medications on time, your illness won’t deteriorate for at least two years.”
That was an understatement. Josephine might have been fine previously, but given her current
condition, she would be lucky if her condition held out for half a year, not to mention two
years.
Josephine lifted her hand, trying to reach for her phone. But she was too weak, and her arm drooped.
“Madam, if there’s anything you want to tell me, save it for when you have recuperated. I might stick
around for a while. I’ll get you some broth,” said Dr. Halliday as he trotted out. Soon, he came back with
a bowl of broth.
He helped Josephine into a sitting position and gave her a spoonful “Madam,

broth.”
Josephine stared at the broth he held and pressed her lips together.
After a silent moment, she lowered her head to take a sip.
Dr. Halliday sighed in relief and immediately followed with another spoonful. “Come, have more. You’ve
not eaten for two days.”
Josephine drank in silence.
She felt a trickle of energy returning to her after finishing a bowl.
She found her phone and took it to type her thoughts. “Am I dying?”
The words came as a shock to Dr. Halliday. He froze and forced a smile. “Don’t be ridiculous, madam.
You’re still young. Why will you die?” Dr. Halliday thought of something and asked, ” It couldn’t be… Did
you starve yourself because you thought you were dying?”
Josephine was silent. He took her silence as affirmative.
She lay on the sofa for the entire day. Waking up, the world around her spun, and her mind was in a
muddle. Besides the pain in her fingers, she felt excruciating pain in her belly and
body.
That time, she really thought she was about to die.
She was waiting for death to arrive. Who knew she would be on a bed when she reopened her eyes?
“Oh, right. Madam, I have something to tell you about your condition.”
