Chapter 73 A Lunatic
Lewis hesitated for a while before suddenly looking at Conrad. Thinking about something, hist gaze
darkened. “She sure runs away quickly.”
Josephine had to head to the hospital to be put on drips. Of course, she would leave quickly. She didn’t
even have lunch to put in more time at work to end the day on time.
With the doctor’s prescription in hand, she collected her medication and went to the lobby to be put on
drips.
Her abdomen was feeling better after being on drips the day before, but it still hurt quite a bit. At least
she didn’t need painkillers to deal with the pain.
She found an empty spot to sit down. There were quite a lot of patients there, but luckily family
members weren’t allowed. Everyone was there alone on drips.
Josephine took her phone out and looked once again at Sam’s text message. She had not replied to
him after the text he sent the night before, so he stopped sending her more.
She typed, “I would like to inquire regarding support for the elderly.” She had always wanted to ask
about that since she could not gather that much money for Patrick, so she wanted to see
if she could take it to court instead.
Josephine waited for about two minutes before he replied, “What is the situation like? Roughly describe
it for me.”
Josephine didn’t know the specifics, so she only mentioned Mrs. Jinkins being kicked out of her house
and how Patrick used Mrs. Jinkins to extort her for money.
A few minutes later, Sam asked, “Can you use a voice message?”
Josephine paused for a while and bit her lips. Then, she told him that she couldn’t speak
Sam was silent for a while before saying that he understood. Then, he sent a voice message, saying, “I
roughly understand. From what you said, Patrick might be involved in abandonment, which is a felony.
If you have concrete proof, he might go to prison. Usually, we will try communicating and settling

because it could possibly affect the family’s relationship.”
Sam’s voice was deep and rich. He gave Josephine a feeling of righteousness, giving her a better
impression of him.
Josephine typed, “I’ve met him before. I don’t think we can settle this.”
Sam replied, “Okay, then we’ll take it to court. But first, the testimony of the elderly victim is very
important. The next is the evidence. Statements from witnesses, friends, neighbors, medical records,
security footage, and call logs. All these could be evidence.”
Josephine thought that the statements from the neighbors wouldn’t be a problem. She wasn’t too sure
about security footage, whether Patrick’s house had them or not. If she could get the footage of Mrs.
Jinkins rummaging through trash in the past, she was sure it would be helpful
too.
Sam said they needed proper evidence and testimonies. It was pointless to talk on the phone.
“When are you free? We can meet up and discuss this in detail then.”
Josephine looked at her calendar. It was Wednesday that day, and she was only free on Saturday. She
agreed to meet Sam at 9 am on Saturday.
She let out a sigh, looked up, and noticed that her bottle of drips was already empty. She stood up and
took the bottle to the counter to get it changed.
“You can just call me. You don’t have to bring it over,” the nurse said.
Josephine pursed her lips. She was unable to tell the nurse that she couldn’t speak. The nurse put her
on another bottle of drips. Josephine looked at her phone once more and deleted her text messages
with Sam.
Lewis had a hand in Mrs. Jinkins being taken away. If he were to find out that she was still trying to
interfere in Mrs. Jinkins’ affair, there was no saying what he would do.
When she finished her drips, it was around 8 pm in the evening. Josephine took a bus home. She had
to walk quite a long distance from the bus stop to the mansion.
When she arrived home, she noticed Lewis sitting on the sofa with his legs crossed, lying back lazily on
the sofa. He was casually flipping through channels with the remote control in his
hands.
Josephine clenched her fists and carefully walked over.
Lewis was still looking at the tv. Without looking at her, he asked, “Where did you go?”
Josephine lowered her head. If he didn’t look at her, naturally, she would not be able to explain it to
him. He clearly didn’t want an explanation from her, either.
She placed herself opposite Lewis and gestured. “Have you eaten?”
Lewis looked at her silently with a hint of disdain and aloofness in his eyes. “Why are you being so
pretentious?”
Josephine was a little taken aback. The coldness in his tone made her feel like she was suffocating
once more.
Lewis said, “Are you that desperate to get divorced? Why are you still pretending? Why have I never
realized what a good act you’ve been putting on, Josephine?”
Josephine clenched her fingers tightly and looked at him, not knowing what to do. He was
right. She had always thought of divorcing him, especially when she was alone, when she saw how he
favored Sierra, or during the long nights.
Her thoughts then would always be more extreme. It was just like a decision one made before sleep.
One would usually regret it the next day.
When she texted Sam, she had thought about asking about a divorce, but the following day, she only
thought of asking about Mrs. Jinkins’ issue. She could not explain such conflicting. and complicated
thoughts to him.
In some way, Lewis was right.
Lewis glared at her. “Are you not going to explain yourself?”
Josephine clutched the corner of her clothes and chose silence.
He glared at her for a while before leaning back. His gaze resumed its calmness. “Josephine, I’m going

Josephine stared at him, baffled. She was getting more and more confused as to why he loved. Sierra
so much yet refused to give her a family.
On the contrary, he disliked her and treated her coldly, continually dismissing her as an embarrassment
but refusing to divorce her. Was it really because of his promise to Old Mr.
Alvarez? Was he really a person that kept his word?
Lewis turned to her and said, “Come here.”
Josephine pursed her lips. She stood up and walked over to Lewis. He pulled her forward gently, and
she lost her balance, falling into his lap.
With one hand around his waist, Lewis went in closer and whispered in her car, “Tell me, who is
compelling you to get a divorce?”
Josephine was a little stunned. She turned to meet his gaze. His deep gaze was ambiguous as usual;
she could never see anything from that pair of eyes.
She looked at him closely, but the next second, he suddenly shouted, “Tell me! Who is it!”
Josephine shuddered, frightened by his yells. She fearfully got up and tried to retreat, but
Lewis grabbed her wrist tightly.
“Josephine, have I been so lenient on you that you keep ignoring what I tell you, hmm?”
His grip on her was strong. It hurt Josephine so much that her eyes reddened. She tried to break free,
but he had her in a death grip.
“Why are you not saying anything? Why are you not talking?”
The calmness on his face gradually turned malicious. Josephine was extremely terrified of this
version of him. It was as if he was another person, a lunatic.
She tried her might to break free, retreating backward.
Lewis gripped her wrist tightly, pulled her back, and violently flung her onto the sofa.
Josephine was dizzy. The dizziness once again overwhelmed her. She closed her eyes in pain as the
world spun around her.
Lewis grabbed her by the chin and said in a low voice, “Look at me.”
Josephine opened her eyes with difficulty, looking at him with reddened eyes. He looked at her and
took a deep breath before letting her go, saying, “Don’t force me to do things I don’t want to do. Got it?”
