Chapter 93 Sarah's pov.
It is another day. I had barely gotten out of the car before Richard was already a few steps ahead, his focus fixed on the building in front of us.
Martins had set this up. A "hidden ally" with insider knowledge. Someone who could help us navigate the network and, hopefully, get us out of the mess we'd found ourselves in.
I couldn't help but think about the last few days. We were making progress, but every move we made felt like we were playing a dangerous game, and I wasn't sure how much longer we could keep this up without someone getting hurt.
I glanced at Richard's back. He was so sure of himself now, so determined. I had to admit, it was hard to ignore the fire in his eyes when he was focused.
He wasn't the sman I used to know-not the one who was always playing it safe and never got his hands dirty. But he was still my Richard, the man I'd known long before everything spiraled out of control.
And yet, the more we worked together, the more I realized how little I truly knew about him. The secrets he was still hiding.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe things he hadn't shared. I didn't know if it was fear, or spart of him still wanting to protect me, but the truth was, I was feeling more and more like I was in the dark.
We entered the building. The air was stale, thick with the smell of old papers and dust.
Martins was waiting for us inside, and standing beside him was someone I didn't expect-a man whose sharp features seemed to belong in a place far more polished than this.
"Sarah, Richard," Martins greeted us, his voice low, almost like a warning. "This is Leo. He's an insider, someone who's been close to the network." Leo didn't shake my hand, but he did givea curt nod. I studied him carefully. His eyes were too calm, too practiced. As if he'd seen everything and didn't blink when faced with danger.
"Pleasure," Leo said, his voice cool but oddly sincere. "I've got a few things you might want to know. Things that could make a difference." We sat down at a table, the three of us looking at him while Martins leaned against the wall. The tension in the room was almost unbearable.
"Start talking," Richard said, his voice sharp. "What do you know?" Leo didn't hesitate. He pulled out a small, folded piece of paper and slid it toward us.
"The network isn't what you think it is. The people you're dealing with? They're not just businessmen or criminals. They're powerful. And they've got eyes everywhere." I felt my pulse quicken. Eyes everywhere. That didn't sit well with me.
"There's a structure," Leo continued. "At the top, there's the Board. Then you've got the regional controllers, the ones who handle the operations in different areas. They're the ones who really call the shots." He paused, letting everything settle in. I could feel Richard's gaze on me, waiting forto process what he was saying.
But I wasn't just processing Leo's words-I was trying to figure out if I could trust him.
"And then," Leo added, his voice lowering, "there are double agents. People you think are on your side, but they're feeding information back to the network. You might have one close to you." The room seemed to grow colder. I felt my stomach tighten, a knot forming in my chest.
"Who?" Richard demanded. "Who are they?" Leo leaned back in his chair, crossing his arms. "Can't say for sure, but I know they're there. Watching. Listening." I tried to keep my face neutral, but inside, my mind was racing. A double agent. Someone close to us.
The words kept echoing in my head, and I couldn't shake the feeling that Leo's words weren't just a warning-they were a call to action.
I glanced at Richard, and for a moment, I saw the sthing in his eyes. Fear. Or maybe it was just uncertainty.
He was taking this all in, but I could tell he didn't want to believe it. He had enough on his plate already without adding another threat to the list.
"Who's feeding them?" I asked, my voice low but steady. "Someone we know?" Leo didn't answer right away, and the silence stretched long enough that I started to wonder if he was hiding something.
"It's hard to say," he said finally, "but you need to be careful. There are eyes on you both. The network's not going to let you just walk away. They'll do whatever it takes to keep control." I took a breath, trying to hold it together. My mind was spinning. A double agent. Someone close to us. It could be anyone. It could be Martins, it could be James-hell, it could be someone in this very room. The fear tightened its grip on me. But I couldn't let it show. Not now. Not in front of Richard.

I turned to Martins. "Do you know anything about this? About the double agents?" Martins met my gaze, his face unreadable. "It's not something we talk about openly. But I've heard whispers. I can't say more." I nodded, keeping my gaze steady. But inside, something was screaming. What if it was Martins? Or worse, what if it was Richard?
It doesn't make any sense. I pushed that thought down, hard. I had to stay focused. I had to keep us moving I forward. We didn't have the luxury of time. If we were going to take the network down, we had to do it fast. "We'll keep an eye on things," I said, forcing my voice to sound more confident than I felt. "Thank you, Leo. You've given us a lot to think about." Leo nodded, not bothering to smile. "Just be careful. Trust no one." As we left the building, I couldn't shake the feeling that Leo's words had been too blunt, too... pointed. A double agent. It felt like a puzzle, one I didn't have all the pieces to yet.
Richard didn't say anything on the way back, but I could feel the tension between us. He was starting to notice that I was holding back.
He had to. I hadn't told him about my suspicions-that one of us might be the hole, I hadn't told him that, every tlooked at him, I saw someone who wasn't quite as transparent as he seemed. I knew I should tell him. I knew I should share my fears, and let him know what I was thinking.
But the truth was, I couldn't. Not yet. I didn't want to drag him down into my own paranoia. I didn't want him tothe way was starting to look at Xwas look at him-like maybe he was hiding something too. I could feel the distance between us, that invisible wall I'd built because I didn't know how to trust anymore. And I hated it. I hated that I had to keep secrets from him, but I justified it by telling myself I was doing it to protect him. To protect us both.
When we finally reached the car, I glanced at Richard, trying to read him. He was staring straight ahead, his face tight. "Are you alright?" I asked, my voice softer than I meant.
He didn't look at me. "Yeah. Just... thinking." I nodded, but inside, I couldn't shake the feeling that something wasn't right. Something between us was shifting, and I wasn't sure we could stop it.
Maybe I was being paranoid. But then again, maybe I was right.
