Chapter 535 A Present And Beautiful Misunderstanding

Someone unrelated…

Briefly stunned, the chief lowered his gaze and gave his nose an awkward scratch. “No. I have been fully focused

on this terrible attack on you and haven’t met any outsiders.”

Seeing through the chief’s expression, Gwendolyn and Cedrick exchanged glances.

“Fine. In that case, I have no further questions.”

Upon gaining Gwendolyn’s acceptance, the chief breathed a soft sigh of relief in front of the blackboard. He then

used a tissue to wipe off the sweat that had broken out across his forehead out of anxiety.

While escorting Gwendolyn and Cedrick out of the police station, Neal asked, “The criminal who struck Ms. Harris

behind the head is being punished. Do both of you want to see him?”

Gwendolyn shook her head in response. “Forget it. Just get the police to continue his severe punishment, Mr. Gray,

Mr. Jenson and I have spent too much time in Astoria. It’s been a long time since we have seen the children, so we

feel like going home.”

“All right then.” Neal gave her an understanding nod before turning toward Cedrick. “In that case, Mr. Jenson, do

you want to bring the criminal back to Chanaea for questioning?”

Cedrick helped Gwendolyn walk with his arm wrapped around her waist. “Since Gwenny has asked you to punish

him heavily, so be it. He is, after all, an Astorian citizen and not the mastermind. Going through the extradition

process for just a henchman is too troublesome and entirely unnecessary.”

Neal nodded in agreement.

“Don’t worry, Mr. Jenson. Even though the lorry driver is now an Astorian citizen, I’ll make sure he gets the best

medical care. Once he recovers, he will definitely be dealt with severely.”

However, Cedrick retorted in a nonchalant tone, “He’s nothing but a scapegoat planted at the very last minute.”

The words stunned Neal slightly. As the crown prince of Astoria, Cedrick’s insinuation wasn’t lost upon. him.

Nonetheless, all he responded with was a wry smile.

Just as they left the police station and were about to enter the armored car to return to the hotel, Cedrick turned

around and said, “Neal, your police chief isn’t on your side. You had better be careful as someone like this might

impede your ascension to the throne.”

The moment he finished, Cedrick help Gwendolyn into the car before joining her inside.

After the door slammed shut, the pale-looking Neal was left standing in the dust.

As he watched the armored car gradually disappear, Neal discreetly gave the deputy police chief a call.

“Find out who your boss has met with recently, and be discreet about it.”

On the way back to the hotel, Cedrick and Gwendolyn didn’t say a word due to the presence of the Astorian police.

It wasn’t until the door to the presidential suite was closed behind him that Cedrick remarked, “From the police

chief’s reaction, it’s clear that the person he met must be someone important. I’m guessing it was

either Paul or Annie.”

Gwendolyn flashed a faint smile as she locked gazes with him. “That is exactly what I thought, too.”

Wrapping his arms around Gwendolyn’s waist, he asked, “What do you plan to do, Darling?”

“We’ll head home first. After that, I’ll play hardball with them by plundering Paul’s resources and ending the

partnerships Annie has on hand. As for everything else they have done, I’ll make them pay for it one by one due to

their distinguished position.”

Cedrick gave her forehead a peck. “We’ll do whatever you say, Gwenny.”

The bandage around Gwendolyn’s head made it difficult for her to shower. Hence, Cedrick carried her to the dry

area in the bathroom and slowly wiped her body with a hot towel that he personally wrung.

After that, both of them went to bed comfortably.

In the middle of the night, Gwendolyn couldn’t sleep well due to the dull pain in the back of her head.

However, her eyelids felt so heavy that she just couldn’t open her eyes.

Clenching her fists, she felt rage swelling up within her inexplicably.

I need to vent… to shed blood…

“What’s wrong, Gwenny?”

Holding her in his arms, Cedrick, who was sleeping lightly, could feel the sudden tension in her back.

He turned on the bedside lamp and scrutinized her. “Are you feeling any discomfort?”

As the grogginess Gwendolyn felt gradually dissipated, she suddenly realized that she couldn’t speak or move a

single muscle.

It was a strange sensation, similar to cases of sleep paralysis she had heard about.

After struggling for a while with all her might, she slowly drifted back into a deep sleep once she had drained all her

energy.

When Cedrick checked her breathing and noticed that it had returned to a steady state, he sighed in relief, thinking

that she had just been having a nightmare.

With that, both of them slept peacefully in each other’s arms for the rest of the night.

Upon getting out of bed and packing the next morning, they were sent to the airport in an armored police

car.

This time, both of them safely boarded the plane home after an uneventful journey to the airport.

As Gwendolyn stared out the aircraft window into the rolling hills in the distance, a sense of calm returned to her

heart. She no longer remembered the sleep paralysis she experienced last night.

Cedrick was holding her hand with his fingers tightly clasped around hers. After pecking her on the cheeks, he

sounded relieved as he spoke.

“Luckily, I came with you to Astoria on this business trip. I would have gone mad to learn that you had

Twisting to lean her head on his shoulders, Gwendolyn said wearily. “I’m feeling sleepy, Hubby. Let me sleep in your

arms. Wake me when we’re there.”

“All right. Go ahead and rest.”

After spending more than twenty hours on the flight, Gwendolyn and Cedrick finally landed at Salinsburgh, Chanaca.

Expecting their arrival, Nico and Summer were already waiting at the airport.

Summer had even bought some flowers, making an occasion out of it. It felt as if she hadn’t seen them for a very

long time.

When Cedrick and Gwendolyn emerged from the terminal holding hands, the two quickly approached

them.

Nico helped the couple with their luggage while Summer held onto Gwendolyn’s arm and stuffed the fresh flowers

into the latter’s hands.

“Did you have fun on your honeymoon, Gwendolyn?”

Nico added by the side. “Cedrick has finally fulfilled his dreams of having his honeymoon overseas. I’m sure this trip

has been unforgettable for the two of you, right?”

As news of the attack in Astoria had been covered up, those in Chanaea were oblivious to it.

Thus, Nico and Summer peppered the couple with questions about the tourist sites they visited, having assumed

that Gwendolyn and Cedrick had gone on their honeymoon.

However, Cedrick kept mum. The mere mention of the trip upset him, for it reminded him of the wounds.

Gwendolyn suffered.

Unlike him, Gwendolyn was in a much better mood. With glistening eyes, she pointed at one of the bags Nico was

carrying.

“While shopping in Astoria’s largest mall, I got something for the two of you. You can open it once we’re back at

Harrick Villa.”

Delighted to learn that Gwendolyn had gotten them a present, Nico and Summer couldn’t wait to return. to the

Jenson residence.

Half an hour later, the group arrived home in a cheery atmosphere.

The moment the villa doors opened, Charles and Zoey could be seen standing at the door, carrying one of the

children each.

“Welcome back, Gwen. Benny and Zendy were very well-behaved. They must have missed you-”

Charles stopped abruptly when he noticed Cedrick’s darkened expression. Thereafter, he added tactfully, “As for

you, Mr. Jenson, the children kept babbling every day, almost sounding like they were calling for their daddy.”

No sooner had Charles changed his tact than the tension on Cedrick’s face eased.

After taking Zendaya over from Charles, Gwendolyn gave her daughter a tight hug to express her longing

for her.

As for Nico and Summer, both of them were unwrapping their presents excitedly.

Summer was ecstatic when she laid eyes on the expensive crystal jewelry Gwendolyn had gotten her. As this was

the most luxurious item she had ever owned, she was moved to tears.

Gwendolyn teased, “Why are you crying? I got this to thank you and Nico for the help this week. Please accept it.”

“All right, then.”

Now that the children’s actual parents had returned, Charles had no choice but to step aside and smile alongside

everyone.

Nevertheless, Gwendolyn shifted her attention to him. “You have done the most by taking care of the children. I’ve

also gotten you a present, so why don’t you take a look to see if you like it?”

Charles’ eyes lit up in surprise. “I have one too?”

Gwendolyn nodded with a smile.

With the help of his keen eyes, Nico retrieved an exquisite-looking watch from the bag and handed it to Charles.

“This one must be yours.”

As Charles ran his fingers over the luxury watch, the joy on his face was unmistakable.

“I’m surprised you personally chose something for me, Gwen. This is the first time I have received a gift from you

ever since we reunited with each other. I like it very much. Thank you.”

Brows furrowed, Cedrick quickly clarified the beautiful misunderstanding. “Don’t let yourself get carried away. I was

the one who picked the watch for you, so I’m the one you should be thanking.”

Rendered speechless, Charles suddenly felt as though the watch in his hand had lost its luster.
