Chapter 1603

She gave a small, knowing smile, and returned to her work, waiting for the time to clock off.

At the desk to hers, Tracy was looking at her computer. The corner of her eyes swept towards Emily as she subtly

reached for her phone.

At noon, Wilson came to pick up Emily for lunch. They went to a nearby restaurant.

As they were ordering their food, Wilson spotted a familiar face entering the restaurant. He stood up and greeted,

“Mr. James!”

Emily’s heart skipped a beat. Charlie had repeatedly wamed her not to get too close to Wilson, and yet here they

were, running into him by chance.

But considering that there was no longer any relationship between her and Charlie, Emily’s nerves settled a bit, and

she turned to look at Charlie.

Charlie’s gaze swept over Emily indifferently, and then he turned to Wilson with a faint smirk on his lips. “Mr.

Walton!”

Wilson smiled and said. “Mr. James, are you here for lunch? Why not join us?”

“No, thanks. I have a client meeting.” Charlie replied in a calm and distant tone.” And considering the upcoming bid,

I’d prefer Mr. Walton and my personal assistant not getting too close, to avoid any unnecessary

misunderstandings.”

Wilson smiled faintly as he explained, “Please don’t misunderstand, Mr. James. Emily and I were classmates from

the start. This meeting is purely personal and unrelated to work.”

Charlie nodded briefly. “Enjoy your lunch,” he said before making his way to the second floor.

Once Charlie was out of sight, Wilson turned to Emily with a grin. “Seems you’re quite afraid of Charlie?”

Emily’s eyes were clear as she replied, “Not afraid, just highly respectful of him.”

Wilson nodded, asking, “Would you like to have some wine?”

“No, thanks. I have to return to work in the afternoon.” Emily replied with a warm smile. “So, what did you want to

see me for?”

After a brief pause, Wilson started, “Well, here’s the thing. Betty hasn’t been able to find a suitable job, and she’s

considering opening a coffee shop with friends. All her money was tied up in stock market before she came back,

so she needs to borrow money if she want to open the coffee shop. I’d like to help her, but I don’t want her to know

I’m the one helping her. So, I was hoping you could help me give the money to her.”

Emily asked, puzzled. “Why don’t you want Betty to know you’re helping her?”

Wilson shrugged, saying, “It’s a bit complicated. When I was studying abroad, my mom came to see me and stayed

in my apartment. Coincidentally, that day, Betty needed some money for a friend’s predicament and came to me

for help. My mom, not understanding the situation, mistakenly thought she was a gold-digger and scolded her

harshly. By the time I got the full picture and tried to help her again, she didn’t accept it. So this time, I want to

make amends for that misunderstanding”

Emily gave a light smile. “That was such a long time ago, Betty might not even remember it anymore.”

During the last gathering, Betty had shown some affection for Wilson.

“To be honest, before coming to you, I talked to Betty once about resolving her financial issues but she refused.”

Wilson said with a resigned smile. “Betty’s even prouder than we thought, so, I had to come to you for help. Im

confident she won’t refuse your help.”

Emily asked, “How can I help?”

“It’s quite simple!” Wilson grinned. “Til transfer three hundred thousand dollars to you, and you can lend it to her in

your name.”

Emily hesitated, not immediately agreeing.

“Is there a problem?” Wilson softened his voice. ‘Emily, Betty trusts you quite a lot and that’s why I came to you. I

hope you can help me and, in turn, help her”

After giving it some thought, Emily nodded. “Okay, I’ll pass the money to her

“That’s great!” Wilson exclaimed happily. “Thank you, Emily. I’ll transfer the money to you now.”

“No need to rush, we can do it tonight!” Emily suggested

“Sounds good Just let me know when you’re ready”

Just then, the waiter brought their food. Wilson served Emily some food, “The salt baked lobster here is pretty good

Give it a try”
