Gumihou: Hmm, anyway, redid the scenes so that it makes more sense. Redid the whole chapter basically, cleaned up the ending too.
““Ou! Let’s go after the Tyrant Black Alligator next!!””
“Ah, that…” to be honest, I’m a bit concerned about the Alligator since it was listed as an S Class. Maybe we should go back first and rest before-
“Umu, good idea. It’s just nearby after all.”
“… I guess it’s fine,” I said in a slightly defeated voice.
“Onwards, go that way, Sui!”
“”Weee~~””
“This is certainly a very comfortable way of moving on water…”
“”I’ll scout ahead!”” shouted Dora-chan before launching himself into the air once again.
“…well, at least they are having fun…”
Fer and Grandpa Gon directed Sui to an area right in the middle of the river.
“Umu, this is not good.”
“Indeed.”
“What? Why? What happened?”
For two powerhouses to declare that something was ‘not good’ must be catastrophic!! Should I panic now?!
“Hmm, Tyrant Black Alligators are creatures that enjoy sunning themselves on riverbanks, but they could also stay underwater for days.”
“Days? That’s… wait, you’re saying the Alligator is down there?!”
I stared through Sui’s transparent body to clear blue water. There was a lot of fish and other… things swimming around. There was also something that looked like a large boulder at the bottom of the lake… Wait, is that the Alligator? It looked, kind of big?
“Hey,” I said, pointing at the shadow. “That’s the Alligator, right? Just, how deep underwater is it?”
“Hmm, the river is much deeper than I am tall,” said Grandpa Gon. “Even in my original form.”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtFor a moment, I visualise Grandpa Gon struggling as he sinks into the water and monsters of all kinds attack him, causing bubbles and blood to come flooding out…
“Let’s, not go into the river.”
“”Well, I can’t go that deep,”” said Dora-chan.
“”Sui will-“”
“Sui, you’ve taken out one prey already, it is now my turn.”
We all turned to look at a rather smug Fer.
“Hey,” I said. “Can you swim?”
“No, but I have a good technique for hunting water creatures. Has my master forgotten?”
“Ah? Ah!” That’s right, during our first excursion through a forest, back when it was just me and Fer, we found a river filled with fish. “Are you going to use the same technique?”
“Umu, something a bit stronger would be needed. Especially if I am to kill it.”
“Kill… hey, you’re going to use an electricity attack, right? Isn’t that close to something like an Area of Effect attack? How far will it extend? How many things will die?!”
“Hmm, considering the life forms around the waters, the depth of the Alligator… umu, from here to that shore and all around-”
“Rejected.”
“What? Why?!”
“If you notice, we are within your ‘projected area of effect’ I don’t want to die. I don’t want Sui to die!!”
For some reason, Dora-chan had stuck close to me.
“That’s, that’s… I can set up a barrier…” Fer looked awkward.
“I can set up one as well, Master,” said Grandpa Gon. “One that is large enough to cover all of us.
“There, that solves it-”
“No, it doesn’t,” I snapped. “We may be covered, but what about other lifeforms around us? Are you really going to kill everything in a kilometre radius? Haven’t you heard what the Guild Master said? Adventurers depend on this river to survive, you know? You will upset the delicate balance of the eco-system, that’s a very bad thing.”
“What does that even mean!!?”
“Anyway, the answer is a no. We can just wait until it surfaces…”
“Wh-what if I don’t kill it? I can stun it, you know? I, the great Fenrir, have great control over my lightning power. I can stun creatures at that depth… some fish might be stunned as well, but if they die, it’s because other things come and eat them. So?”
“That…”
“I can do it! Lightning moves at my will. It will go straight down and strike the Tyrant Black Alligator in the brain for maximum effect!”
“This…”
“Master, I can vouch for the Fenrir’s skill. He can do it.”
“Oh, if that’s the case, go ahead, Fer.”
“Why do you believe him and not me!?” Fer roared.
“Well, you have this kind of reckless air…”
“Gunununu…”
“Please cast the barrier spell, Grandpa Gon. And don’t overdo it, Fer!”
“Nuu, fine.”
Still grumbling to himself, Fer walked to the edge of Sui’s body and pointed his nose to the sky. Suddenly, there was a sound of thunder and a thin strip of lightning shot down like a fine line, straight down to one end of the huge shadow below us.
For a moment, it was like the world had paused. Fishes stopped swimming and river plants stopped swaying. Then, things started to move again. The smaller things appeared first. Small fish and other sea creatures bobbed on the surface around us. The fishes were twitching and flopping weakly, but alive.
“This… it was the same as what happened last time.”
“Humph, of course, I have excellent control over my powers.”
I was too busy staring at the huge black thing floating upward. It was getting bigger and bigger and-
“Ack!”
When it surfaced, it created enough wake that for a moment, I lost my balance on the [Mizumaru].
“It’s here,” said Fer, and sat down.
“Is it… alive?” I asked, staring at the white, slightly twitching belly.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm“Umu, of course. Well, get on with it. You’ll want to kill it before it regains its movements. The stunning effect will disappear soon.”
“Wait, what, me?!”
“Indeed, you told me not to overdo it, so you do it.”
“”Aruji~~ Sui will-“”
“Sui, it is important for our master to fight too.”
““Mu,””
“Ugh,” I wanted to scold Sui, but most of my attention was on the floating Alligator next to us. I review the lizard creature’s anatomy as I rummage for a weapon.
A spear would make sense, but I can’t be sure if it would kill it immediately considering its size. Better to try and cut the creature’s throat and spinal cord if possible. I heard that lizards could still move after they died…
I grabbed the magic sword Gram and leapt off Sui onto the huge bobbing body of the Alligator, woah, the stomach is oddly yielding yet firm at the same time. Anyway, I made my way to the throat area and stabbed under its chin towards the brain. Then, I wrenched the sword left and right, severing whatever felt important.
Blood flowed from the neck and the twitching became a weird, constant tick.
It was over in seconds, but the sense of urgency and sheer adrenaline caused me to sweat all over.
“Oi, did you have to almost take its head off?”
Fer was looking at me incredulously.
“You keep telling me that it’s going to move soon, so I panicked,” I muttered.
“Tch,”
Gunununu, this overpowered bunch of fluff…
““Aruji~ fish~?””
Sui’s tentacle lifted in the air, with fish twitching at the end.
“Oh yes, collect the ones we got earlier, and, hold on, [Appraisal]! Take that one and that one too. Dora-chan, go help Sui.”
No sense in leaving all these fish behind.
We left all the ‘poisoned’ ones behind, I don’t care what Fer says about my Blessing (small), I’m not going to risk it.
[Gumihou: Yup, big changes made. Practically restructured it too.]
