S31 8. Too Much Praising

Shaking her head, Kara widened her smile. “That means you two have to eat a lot today.

You must gather a lot of energy to fight that witch in case she comes into your dreams

again.”

“That’s Emily’s dream, Mommy. But I don’t mind eating a lot. So, in Emily’s dream, I’m still

strong.” Louis showed off his little muscles.

Kara laughed again. “Well then, Mommy should continue cooking.”

“Why isn’t Abigail the one who prepared breakfast? Do you want to prove that what

Grandma Diana said is wrong, Mommy?”

Kara was stung by Louis’ question. After a blink, she smiled slightly. “I cook because I want

you to eat well.

“What are you cooking, Mommy?” Emily stood on tiptoe, trying to peek out. “Is it

sandwich?”

Kara shook her head. “Not the ordinary sandwich. This is a special sandwich from K City.

You will definitely like it. Now get ready. Wash your face and brush your teeth.”

“Ready, Captain!” Louis jumped excitedly.

However, Emily shuddered. “But Mommy, is the water cold?”

“No. The heater is working fine.”

The twins spontaneously looked back. Seeing Sophia, they were stunned. They didn’t

know her presence since they went straight to their room right after dinner.

“Mrs. Miller?”

Sophia shook her head. “Call me Miss Moore, Sweeties.”

“Why?”

“Kids, it’s rude to ask things like that” Kara stroked the twins’ cheeks.” You guys better go

to the bathroom, hmm?”

Louis’ lips pursed. “Okay. I know this is definitely an adult thing.”

Emily giggled briefly. A second later, she waved at Sophia. “Bye, Miss Moore. Let’s talk

again later.”

Sophia nodded gracefully. As the twins left, she approached Kara who had returned to

facing the stove.

“Is there anything I could help?”

Kara smiled at that style of speaking. Last night, they had agreed not to talk formally

because they were not on business.

“No, I’m almost done, I just need to finish the Mornay sauce and then pour it on the

breads. The twins like pretty food.”

“Well, I can understand that. But, where are the breads?”

Kara pointed to the large baking sheet on the other side. “There. I’ll arrange them while I

wait for the sauce to cool down a bit.”

“Well then, let me finish the Mornay sauce. I just need to stir it, right?” Sophia took the

stirrer from Kara’s hand.

Kara smiled warmly. “That might save some time. Thank you.”

Then, she started arranging layers of bread onto several plates.

“Gosh, Honey? What are you doing here?” Diana’s voice broke the silence.

Kara glanced awkwardly. Knowing Diana was talking to Sophia, she returned her focus on

her work.

“Oh this… Mornay sauce.”

Kara glanced without moving her head, a little surprised why Sophia answered that way.

“You make Mornay sauce? Wow, that looks delicious.”

Diana took a spoon and tasted a little. “Erm, it feels perfect. What can’t you do, Sophia?

You are good at business, kind, and now good at cooking. What a dream woman.”

Sophia chuckled while covering her mouth. “You praised me too much, Grandma. I’m not

that great. There are still many things I can’t

do.”

Kara blinked stiffly. Her hand gripped the spoon tighter. While trying to ignore the strange

turmoil in her chest, she continued to arrange.

the food.

“Yes, but at least, you’re much better than an incompetent housewife. You know that,

right? Most women nowadays can only shop and dress up. They tend to be spoiled and

only rely on their husband’s wealth. You’re clearly not like that.”

Kara took a deep breath. Her back felt hot. She suspected that Diana was looking at her

with a cynical look, right at that spot. Luckily, Frank’s voice broke the tension.

“Kara, is breakfast ready?”

Frank walked into the kitchen, ignoring the two people by the stove. Casually, his arms

wrapped around Kara’s waist. Then, his chin rested on her shoulder.

Kara smiled slightly. “Almost. I must set two more plates, then drizzle them with Mornay

sauce.”

“Um, that sounds delicious. But I don’t think you need to arrange those three plates.

Jeremy and Philip don’t understand art. They just want their stomachs to be full. As for me,

I know your cooking is

always perfect, whatever the form. Even when you put it carelessly, it

beautiful in my eyes.”

Kara let out a laugh. Frank’s words never failed to lighten her heart.

“What did you say?” Diana’s voice again ruined Kara’s mood. “This is your wife’s cooking?

Don’t you see? Sophia made it.”

“Grandma,” Sophia touched Diana’s hand. With a small furrow of her eyebrows, she shook

her head slowly. “Please don’t be angry. It’s true. This is Kara’s cooking.”

“You don’t need to defend her, Honey. She clearly lied to impress her husband. I don’t

want to let that kind of cunning go unpunished.”

Frank took a breath; about to argue. However, Kara’s touch restrained him. “Frank, just let

it go. The important thing is you know the truth. That’s enough for me,” Kara whispered

softly.

“But-”

Kara quickly kissed Frank’s lips. “Have you been calm?”

Frank sighed in resignation. Then, he let Kara erase the wrinkles on his face one by one.

“Now, help me set these plates, hmm?”

Frank still expressed reservation.

“Come on.” Kara turned around and pulled Frank’s hand past her waist.

Seeing the couple’s intimacy, Sophia’s eyes dimmed. That’s not what she wanted.

“Oh, look at that woman. She’s not only good at acting, but also shameless.”

Sophia blinked at Diana’s grumbling. Returning a smile, she patted the

old woman’s arm.

“Grandma, how about you wait in the living room? When breakfast is ready, I’ll call you.”

Diana snorted in annoyance. “Okay. If those people bother you, report it to me

immediately.”

Sophia nodded. Her expression was sweet like an innocent woman. However, after Diana

left the kitchen, her gaze became cold again. A faint throbbing rose in the corners of her

jaw.

“Kara,” Sophia called softly. She looked pitiful now.

“Yes?” Kara turned her head. Her eyebrows rose slightly.

Sophia almost snorted at that calmness. Shouldn’t Kara be angry or at least annoyed?

“Well,” Sophia started walking over, “I heard Grandma arguing with you. So, I had to admit

that this dish was made by me. I’m afraid Grandma won’t eat it if she finds out it is made

by you. She’s being

sensitive.”

Kara nodded briefly. “Okay.”

“Okay? You’re not mad at me?”

Sophia’s eyes failed to hide the surprise. However, her tone was still restrained. She

sounded like she felt guilty.
